- So next up on our Alaska cruise we have reached the port of Ketchikan.
Ketchikan is known as the “First City” of Alaska. Not because it was the first city settled in Alaska, but rather the first city you arrive at while taking the inside passage north.
The city is also known as Alaska’s first city and the Salmon Capital of the World. It’s nestled on the 12th largest island in the US and is the southeastern most city in the state.
In this video we invite you along as we show you what is available to do and give you some ideas for if Ketchikan is a stop on your Alaska cruise.

Maybe I’m weird, but I love going to grocery stores when traveling. You learn more about daily life there than in a souvenir shop or a tour.
Haha so true
Hey Everyone hope you enjoy the video of our port day in Ketchikan. Has anyone else made a stop here on your Alaska cruise and what did you do with your day here? Also what did you think of Kev's Lumberjack skills ? 🤣 would anyone else like the idea of having a go?
sorry quick question man to heathrow when you got there did you go through security in t5 im shore you said we went straight through if poss could you let me no carnt find first vlog in airport cheers steve from crewe🤔
Hi Steve and no we didn't have to go through security again, only did it at Manchester but not when we got to Heathrow
Great vlog
loved all the cakes I would have bought the cinnamon buns.
If we ever go to Alaska would love to see the salmon run and then eat them.😂
@@OneCouplesAdventure just to say thanks for that info much app
Haha wish we had brought the cinnamon buns 😋
When you faced the hill and turned right to go to the row of colorful houses, if you had gone left, passed the tiny waterfall, and walked around the bend, that is where you see thousands of spawning salmon. The water is only 4” deep or so.
The Salmon sculpture pointing at the creek rapids is cool. As for size, you'd be amazed to see real Chinook (king) salmon in the creek, they can be almost as big as that.
I’ve been to Ketchikam twice, but in August & September. Lovely weather then. We had a friend in Juneau, but their bus system is great too.
I was there one year at the very beginning of September and the salmon were spawning and it was amazing to see!! Ketchikan is one of my favorite ports!
Amazing 😁 we would love to go back when the Salmon are spawning
Loved your review of Ketchikan!! My favourite town in Alaska (haven’t been to Sitka) never did see the Lumberjack show but have done the Aqua duck tour and Dolly’s Museum. (Worth the $10) when you return, hopefully the fenicular is repaired and you can take it up to Deer Lodge and then walk down Married Mans trail and see the salmon spawn on the fish ladders!!
Thanks so much for watching, sounds like you had a great time
Alaska has to go on my bucket list. More great content from you thanks for sharing . Happy cruising.
Thanks so much and yes Highly recommend 😀
Thanks for taking me along with you on your trips. Enjoy living life vicariously through your adventures. Blessings from Antigua in the Caribbean ❤
Thanks so much 😁
My wife and I are new to your channel and we really enjoying this trip to Alaska on Discovery Princess.
We've booked the Lumberjack show for our Ketchikan stop in September but I'm not sure about the axe throwing, lol.
Keep up the good work, we really like your natural easy-going style 😁.
Thanks so much and haha let us know if you change your mind and end up having a go
@@OneCouplesAdventure lol, will do 🪓😁
We enjoyed the Ride the Duck tour there.
Another great trip vlog well done kev for winning the axe throwing.
good one again looks good for walk about hope to b there soon again great stuff❤
What another lush vlog,so lovely to see somewhere I'm never going to in person, thankyou both😊xx
Hi Stacey and Kev. Great tour as always including all the information. It's been a hot minute since I've been to Alaska. Need to get back there. Kev you did really well with the ax! Thank you for taking us along on your adventures and travel. Have a great day ❤
Thanks so much MaryAnn and yes Alaska is wonderful 😊
We did the train as well as the Ghost and Good time Girls walking tour. Both highly recommend!!! So much fun and informative
Loved your visit to Ketchikan, Kev and Stacey. Interesting reason for building it on piers. Enjoyed seeing the totem poles at Whale Park. The trash cans too! 🤣🤣Does remind me of a can of salmon. Great axe throwing Kevy! You'll go back to Johnson Creek and they'll have a parade waiting! 😁😁Fun watching the pro's too. The salmon looked delicious. Fun visit. Thanks for bringing us along.
Haha thanks Dave and Kathy, how cool would that be a parade waiting lol 😁 Alaska was a wonderful place. Hoping to get over to the US again by the end of the year all being well. We've got to try crose paths at some point too. Hope you're both well
Really enjoyed the video Ketchikan looks nice I have to do an Alaska cruise soon.
Absolutely amazing video. Well done to kev for winning the axe throwing x
Lol he loved it
Looks so interesting and a great vlog 👍
Another great one guys ! Kev, don't throw an axe at me ! Enjoy the rest of your journey, I look forward to more Vids !
Haha 🤣
Really loved the video and great job throwing the axe Kev!!
Thanks so much
I’ll be back in Alaska starting next week, I love the place, people, history and shear beauty. Makes me appreciate our beautiful world.
Love Ketchikan, walking around. I’m going to take a bear tour . Like Kev, I love the bears.
Thanks for a taking us along. I’m so happy your experience in the US was positive. Your always welcome!
See you on your next adventure.
Have a great time George and we love the US so will definitely be back at some point
Hi Dad, have a great video low power is very interesting though. Very informative. Keep up the good work. Really interesting to watch
This has been your best series blog yet, really informative brought back memories from our trip to Alaska in 2008 and excited to be going back to Vancouver in 10 weeks time. Will def try the poutine you guys showed in Vancouver.
Thanks so much and yes definitely try that poutine when in Canada 👍
I wondered about Starbucks as I collect them too. So glad you shared this!
Excellent update from you both, when Kev was doing the axe lobbing you looked like you had a massive bad dude beard with the black scarf underneath.😄🤘👍
Haha we had to go back to look and yes he does 🤣
Another fantastic Vlog guys! Think we're becoming your biggest fans...
Really looking forward to seeing your round up video of the cruise. Out of curiosity... Will you give a price breakdown of the whole trip? An Alaskan cruise has been high on our list for a long time.. and a cost breakdown would be super interesting and helpful 😊
Thanks so much Stephen. And yes definitely. There's still quite a few videos to come out yet but then we will sit down and explain how much everything cost and how we booked it all as I think it would be really useful for people to know how much an Alaska cruise would be as when we first started looking we had no idea lol
I was so willing you to go to the lumberjack show!! It was such a good show and fun!! When I went it wasn’t that full!! Still great though!!!
Great information thanks
Hi guys, what a great video this is. No doubt I have to go to Alaska next year. Like Stacey I have to see big supermarkets when abroad. And I tought Tesco was big haha. Great show Kevin did, what fun. Greetings from the Netherlands
Hi and thanks so much 😁 we love supermarkets in the US
Ah, this is one of my favourite Alaskan ports - I think this is also the first one that we stopped at. The lumberjack show was the definition of a tourist trap, but we had an excellent time in there!
Thanks Fraser, glad you enjoyed Ketchikan too and hope you're having the time of your life on your year long cruising 😁
@@OneCouplesAdventure thanks! We’ve just docked into Israel this morning - I could do with a bit less sun and heat (something I never thought I’d say…!) 😂
Ps if you go again the Misty Fjord Cruise is really nice!! I did that on my first week and then wandered the second week and just went into see the lumberjack show!! Thanks for the tip about the free shuttle to the mall!! X
Thanks so much Karen, I have just googled the Misty Fjord cruise and wow!! Can see why you did it. We would love to go back Alaska in a few years and would look at doing this. Thanks for the recommendation 😀
Taking the bus was the greatest idea It worked perfectly got my mugs
Fab 👌 😁
I don’t like Starbucks coffee is there a Costa.😁
Prices dip in September. They cruises end in early October, and they want to clear their stock. June is expensive.
Another great informative video xx. Never got to go to Ketchikan on our cruise sadly. Maybe another time eh. The lumberjack show looked ace as did the fish sampler. Do you think The Yorkshire Fisheries at Cobridge could replicate the coating/batter cus that looked lush. X
Haha that would be amazing 🤣
Great video! Thanks you sharing! Do you remember the name of the store that got the spirit jersey in? Going on an Alaskan cruise in August 🥰
Thanks and I think it was the one just around the corner from the one that sold the Starbucks mugs. It was a sales rack though so not sure if they will still have it. Let us know if you manage get one though 😁
Thank your lucky stars for the cruise industry. Ketchikan used to be the ugliest town in the world! I used to work and live in South East Alaska and Ketchikan was the absolute worst, not that any of the towns in SE were exactly great. 180 inches of rain a year, that's an average of 1/2 inch per day. Sunny days are rare and beautiful, anything else is completely dismal!
A $4 bus ride to Saxman totem village just south of downtown
Lumberjack show reminds me of the Berocca advert! 😂
Haha yesssss it does!
Really enjoyed this tour. Thank you both
I'm curious to know ehat tye wood smelt like. Did it not just smell like wood?
Hi guys did you visit the tavern the red something that was an experience they have sawdust on the floor which was from the gold prospectors were they had gold dust falling from their pockets and they sived the sand for particles hope you enjoyed Alaska
Ah no we didn't sounds wonderful though
Jewelry shops are mostly owned by the cruise ships, or partnered with them. I avoid them.
Didn't they offer you a job Kev 😂
Haha they did but he had to turn it down unfortunately! We just couldn't commit to moving to Alaska (only joking, he could Axe throw but no way could he climb up that pole 🤣)
Looked like a great day out, my kinda way to spend a day.
The axe throwing looked amazing.
Off topic slightly, but do both of you guys not drink alcohol?( forgive me if that seems a personal question)
Hi thanks so much and no don't mind you asking us at all. There's no particular reason really, in the 18 years we have been together we have never really drank. None of us have ever liked the taste of anything and its just never appealed to us. Then over time we just cut it out completely. We are massive foodies instead lol 🤣
@@OneCouplesAdventure very cool.
Love watching your videos, your excitement for good food matches mine…😂.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
Thanks so much 😁
