    Ren talked about the frustration of putting out a song and then experiencing a kind of disconnect because he' has already mentally moved on from the song by the time it comes out. Power was created and filmed rather spontaneously with two cell phones for cameras. He recorded the song and quickly released it and now it is one of his fan favorites.

    This track and the video are a bop. It makes me smile to watch it, even with the sound muted. Ren has such freedom in his movement when he makes music. Even his face dances, and he's so comfortable about it. If I didn't know the song, I could "hear" the music just by watching Ren.

    Ren put this out right after his break with management. He was really frustrated with all the control and greed involved in the process. He wanted to just write it, film it and put it out without concetn for all the promotion antics. So he did it very quickly with the 2 cell phobes and friend Sam. And it really worked!
    BTW, Ren's whole team was in Calgary doing the last live stream before finding out he got the #1 album in UK, and they all sang this, with repeat over the " never had a top 10" . It was so beautiful! Bunch of happy bois 💙 💖 ❤

    I admire reactors that can express their honest opinion and say they don't care for a song. What I like about you is that you also give us feedback on what you did like. One of the best places to go to understand Rap/Hip hop is with one of the best breakdown reactors on YT and that is Knox Hill, he unpacks Ren's rap and lyrics like no other. I am not a rapper and before Ren couldn't stand most of it, however both Ren and Knox Hill have given me an insight to the art like no others. Its worth checking out Knox's reactions to Ren. I like your honesty with the type of music. I felt the same the first time I heard this song. Ren will often put deep thoughts to an upbeat or light-hearted track. I was getting dressed one morning and this song came on and I wasn't really focused on the lyrics and found myself moving to the beat. Now this is one of those songs I listen to to get pumped up. I'm curious if you could listen to it again in full, not focused on the lyrics. Does the rhythm move you better in that way?
    Not that you have to like it. Just wonder if you would feel it differently.

    Yes, you have to show up. It’s what fascinates me about Eminem. He’s always been a rebel in his public persona but so many musicians have talked about working with him and all have said the same thing-he treats music like a job. He goes to the studio every day from 9am - 5pm and takes an hour lunch. That blew my mind.

Gonna check out the podcast Izzy, I too love the lyrics in music as well. I enjoy instrumentals, like smooth jazz especially, but always gravitate back to songs with lyrics. One of the reasons I enjoy Ren so much, he is a master at the lyrics, and I have even learned to enjoy his rapping, because of the lyrics. Never liked much rap before Ren. Ren uses samples (mostly of himself) and tweaks them around to produce the beats, and background. Marry that to a good vocabulary, excellent rhyme, and an inner metronome----Voila! It's that word rhythm, that cadence that catches us. Shakespeare ( or Bacon, or Edward de Vere, or . . .) would have been a natural rapper. 😉

    As a working travel photographer I have always struggled with the balance between shooting for my own vision versus capturing images in a style I know would attract more attention. There's a fine balance between your own honesty and needing people to like you/your work. The older I get the more I realise there will probably be enough people who resonate with your own truths to make it worthwhile putting work out there and hopefully the power of the algorithm gets it in front of those people. This is probably my favourite Ren rapping song apart from maybe "Seven Sins". If it wasn't for Ren I would listen to very few Rap songs. I agree with
    @activelyopen8468 when he says that you should listen to this while doing something else and without interruptions although your pauses are usually full of interesting commentary. I have found that most Ren songs don't land for me immediately. I have to immerse myself in the music and I do that by watching Ren reactions like yours. I never get the lyrics first time and I never try to. For reactors it is different. You need to at least attempt to follow the words. I don't care about lyrics until I have heard the music maybe twenty times. I think this may be a generational thing as I was a teen during the latter part of the 60s when lyrics were often so strange we all thought they probably didn't mean anything. "We skipped the light fandango." is one good example of obscure lyrics. I have also noticed that women usually catch the lyrics of songs before men do.

      @@toniyoung5131 You are the same age as me. I see the late 60s and maybe the early 70s as a musical highlight of my life. It had an effect on my comparable to the effect Ren has. Some random guy tried to ridicule me elsewhere when I said that. I didn't bother explaining it as it was a very personal view and I would have had to share more of myself than I wanted to.
      I used to go to see what I called Underground music partly because I lived in London then and used the underground rail system to get to see these bands. Like Ren's music it wasn't commercial. Most of those artists never made it big. What am I saying? You almost certainly know most of this already.

    • @IzzyIzenstain
      @IzzyIzenstain  Před měsícem +1

      I'm the same with listening to new music usually. It's the music and then the lyrics come later. But I'm enjoying the process I've developed through doing these reactions. And of course I pay special attention to Ren's lyrics because he always has something interesting to say. With other artists, I tend to just see what grabs my attention first. Actually, I'm not sure if I do pay special attention, or if it's just his lyrics that grab me first. My Seven Sins reaction is recorded and will be out next week. It's a long one! Didn't realise how much I had to say about it until the end and I saw the time.

    I'm also intrigued by religious texts, especially the Bible. Not because I think it's touched by anything divine, but because it/they have persisted. These are the stories/messages/lessons our ancestors thought were important to teach to the next generation. Why? Really interesting to try to understand their perspective- understanding, of course, that these texts have been mistranslated and edited (by conservative white men) many times before reaching my eyes. Which is in itself interesting. I love books and stories, so how can one not be curious about the one(s) most read, most printed, most distributed over thousands of years? Very cool.

    What is your question about rap? I didn’t understand your question. It was certainly an interesting time for Ren as he was sick as a dog. Have you watched seven deadly signs? It’s deep and he even has a line Jesus died at 33 and here I am still suffering!

      I was referring to the "uh" noise rappers seem to make at the beginning of songs, and I was wondering why they do it. My Seven Sins reaction is out now. You may have seen it, but if not, here it is..

      @@IzzyIzenstain oh cool no I haven’t seen it yet. I’m gonna check it out. It’s my understanding that they do that while gathering their thoughts to think of rhyming words and the scheme that they’re going to use. Instead of just sitting there with no noise or sound they’re creating a beat. Are you familiar with Harry Mack? If not you need to check him out. It’s mind blowing! He’s a white male, probably his 40s and he’s considered the best freestyle rapper in the world I think at this point it’s not even debatable. Of course you’ll find someone who will just need to be a contrarian but you know what I’m saying. He is independent like Ren it has turned down lots of money to stay independent. He has a series called Omega bars that he did 100 episodes and retired the series and now he has one called gorilla bars where he just walks up to people on the street says freestyle for you? They see like an old white guy and are skeptical and he asks for any where between three and 3: words and then he corporate them into his wrap he never stutters or misses a bee. It’s crazy but anyway, he starts all his shows out like that. Uh ahh uh uh ahhh and he has commented on it now I don’t know if that’s how it originated or everyone does that but it’s relatively common. Oh one last thing there’s a reactor in the US named disco doc. He’s like a retired professor, but his reviews are funny and they’re well researched and amazing. He does quite a bit of rain songs and he breaks down some of the bars completely different than I seen anyone else do it . Well Ren started a new channel not long ago. I think it’s called not Ren or Ren not Ren . But anyway there’s a reaction of him watching disco dock breakdown all of his songs. I guess a fan asked him to do it so him being him was like sure what the hell and he said I like this song power let me click on that one and the guy starts talking in this robot voice. He says this shit is gold already. This is effing gold.! Did he get to the part? I hate to see my mom alone. My dad was like shallow. I heard the sound of love dying… he started breaking that part down his expression changes. I think you’d really enjoy it and I don’t plug other people pages on reactors pages so apologies for that but he really is unique and puts a lot of effort into it and it’s quite enjoyable and if you do check it out, I would like to know your thoughts. Nice chatting with you again. Talk to you soon, my friend. I’m gonna check out seven sins. One of my favorite Ren songs. Powerful. I think my favorite are Genesis and murderer live and castles made of sand followed by Crutch with Bibi. Hope all is well mate.

      Interesting what you said there at the end do you think he just sits down and writes a song? I don’t know if you saw that that he did with King Dotta and Knox hill but basically he said that you in seven months with just a flick of my wrist is how long it took me to write that. I think he is so talented he can just think of a topic and just do it. I know he’s mentioned he’s wearing shitload books. I guess that’s what you do when you’re in bed for a decade and he said at one point he was riding like 20,000 words a day is super smart. I mean he’s obviously super smart. I mean you’re very smart as well. I guess some people it has to come to them like osmosis actually it’s my belief that that’s most people comes to writing music however I think he is one in a billion. I don’t want to sound like a fan boy but it blows my mind one the amount of material that he has and that he puts out into if I just click on the song I don’t know if it’s from five years ago seven years ago eight years ago, 10 years ago yesterday even. It’s like even though he’s only become real popular over the last 18 months he’s been this good for a decade in my opinion. I mean his voice has improved. Some you can tell but aside from that is acting is probably improved but musically he’s just so gifted. I don’t know. Maybe I’m overstating it but I think we should all agree. He’s special. Anyway, post me that link to the podcast when you get around to it I’d like to check it out all right buddy. See you soon. Cheers.

      @@JoeYo77 Some songs come quick, others take work. I think I mis-spoke and what I meant was, it's not my favourite way to work, sitting down pressuring myself to write something. Although I have done it, when required to write for a couple of films. But for me, the best stuff comes when I don't expect it. Thanks Joe. Here's the podcast, playlist;

    Stick around like Rowland, Costello, Weller and others.
    Jim M and Janis J didn’t seem to value life. Hendrix was still creating, just lack of knowledge. That’s my tuppence worth.
    That’s cool about your acting - did it for two years, but wasn’t serious. Tommy Tiernan was in my class - he’s doing okay.
