Matt goes to Ingrid's (Carolina Coops' Marketing Director) house to install an automatic chicken run door by ChickenGuard. Ingrid has a 6'x12' American Coop and didn't choose the automatic run door option when she purchased the coop.
Matt installs the framing needed for the chicken run door and how to properly install the self-locking Chickenguard chicken run door.
The self-locking feature makes it so no small raccoon hands and pry it open from the bottom. The automatic run door keeps your flock safe at night and you don't have to get up early to let them out or worry that you didn't close up the coop at night. Great peace of mind.
The Chickenguard can be used manually, but is usually set to dusk to dawn. It can also be set to open or close at a specific time. AND it can be set to a combination of those options, so you can have it open later than dawn, but have it close at dusk for example.

Hey Matt, you should make a video how to make a coop solar with the door, lights and someone should make a solar de-icer. That would be such a help avoiding the electricity issue!

We now sell the Pullet-Shut chicken door and that can work with solar.⬇️

Can you place the door on the inside of the coop so it looks cleaner when viewed from outside?

Can I install this on the coop itself? I'm getting the 6x8 American coop with out a run and I'm wondering if it will interfere with the vent windows.

Hi Lisa, yes, it would interfere with the windows, but you can install the chickenguard on the inside, you would have to use the timer function instead of a photocell function. Omlet also makes an automatic coop door opener that opens from the side, which would also work for your coop. Hope that helps. And thank you for choosing Carolina Coops for your chicken coop!

What are the dimensions of your frame?

I can NOT get this door to work right! Seems like the 'wings' get caught into the track and then it gets too tight to move freely. It's level on both sides, etc, and I followed directions perfectly. UGH
