The series received critical acclaim in its early seasons, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy in 1998 and 1999, and also winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1999.

Heartbreaking moment from "Boy Next Door" of Season 3, when Ally gives her eulogy to Billy at his funeral, barely even to hold back her tears as she remembers the song he sang as a child. Sad that a lot of those people at his funeral often disparaged Billy, such as Richard,Renee,Ling,Nelle,and even Georgia at times. Sad also that Ally was the only one at that funeral that truly loved Billy, despite his shortcomings, and that no one could possibly know how devastating his death was to her. Not only was he the great love of her life, but he was the last connection she had with her childhood, the only childhood friend she kept as an adult, the only point of reference she had to remember her childhood memories. The only flaw in her eulogy was an unnecessary disparaging remark about Heaven, obviously still angry at God for allowing Billy to be taken from her.

What a performance IMHO one of her best. I've often wondered how the series would have gone if Gil hadn't left the show. Of course the same is true if RDJ had stayed through season 4.

I remember watching these episodes & crying when Billy gave his speech in court; he still loved Ally. Sadly, she was meant to be with him he died.

@@jeanneanderson3367 Still gets me every time I watch. I remember thinking will Ally find her true love? Season 4 with Larry was the closest IMHO it was too bad RDJ had his issues.
