i always hate it when a kid makes a bad decision and the others has to sacrifice themselves to save them, typically in movies and stories like this one

Seeing as Luke let that man die it's not the most heartbreaking disappearence... Though I don't think he is horrible and deserved death... Plus that truck wouldn't have made it and he should have joined James.

You can almost feel where the writer of this movie realized they had no idea how to end it. There's nothing less fulfilling than a movie with a mystery that goes unresolved. Another recap that saved me from watching a movie that would have wasted my time.
A better ending would’ve been James waking up in the truck with Luke still being “alive”. They never really explained how the cinema worked survived despite him being assumed taken by the shadows at the beginning. They could’ve shown James in a “shadow realm” before getting pulled out of it by Luke and ending up in the truck. Also there was really no reason for the little girl in the pink coat to be in the movie. She only shows up and actually interacts when everyone’s already “dead”.
But honestly this whole movie is basically an acid trip. How was that plane still flying? Was it on auto pilot before it ran out of fuel? Or was there actually people on that until somehow the shadows took them despite it being day? Also why didn’t Luke say anything about the broadcast of the shadows tricking people? The only time a movie got something similar to this right was “The Mist”, it was a pretty depressing ending but it actually concluded the story.
Fcking right. I hate this kind of mystery movies.

yeah wtf was up with a random horse appearing in the middle of a road, i thought animals can't survive either because there's no animals shown anywhere else, but yup a random horse showed up to eat apples , does the horse use a solar powered flashlight too?

There was apples on ground that lured the horse out of nowhere? Like someone with Godly powers spawn that horse to give the kids a ride.
If everyone disappears in the shadows why would a horse standing outside till sun rises eating apples.
& the girl seems to be aware of what's happening trying to do the mysterious appearances in the movie like she's just watching them die 1 by 1 and waiting for the last one to survive and approach by her.
Overall the movie's plot is a solid 3 out of 10
The book of Croaton literally has nothing to do with the movie. I think it just a representaion of the bible.
I Recommend the movie for those who just want to Sit and Sleep watching the movie. Since it has no sense at all.
The ending is very similar to the movie called "The knowing"
Where random chaos , accidents and shit that's being predicted by a piece of paper
But all of that turns irrelevant with the ending were 2 kids a boy and a girl are the only one who can survive and make a new generation of humanity.

this is actually pretty interesting. im from sweden and up here scandinavia and the northern parts of europe it gets really dark during the winter, with the sun rising later and setting earlier every day just like in the movie. this increase in darkness actually leads to a form of seasonal depression that heavily affects people here. i, in a way, connected this to the whole being taken by the darkness thing, as in being taken by the depression. another interesting thing is that to combat this we use, well.... light
there are things as light therapy and some cities have introduced the concept of super well lit bus stations that bring more light into peoples day, also kinda funny since paul was saved by a bus station

This was definitely a case of having a great idea, and realizing half way through that they didn't know exactly how to end it. Shame really, was an interesting setup.
The fact that they are only using a flashlight while they have to travel on a horse to Chicago is even more worrying

The lost colony is not such a huge mystery. The word croatoan is what the group was meant to write if they were leaving due to an emergency. The men couldn't go to check if they were safe because of boat and sea complications. The only mystery is what made them leave and why they left their supplies there.

I believe that mystery was solved because apparently the neighboring trible seem to had newborn babies with European features.
Also they didn't disappear in one night, the last time they were saw was 2 years before the latest ship found the island empty
An island nearby has a story about a blonde woman coming to their island. A blonde like the daughter of the captain who found the writing. I'm pretty sure they just switched islands. They didn't disappear over night. The captain had visited 5 years earlier (his daughter wanted to stay behind) and the next time he visited they were gone along with his daughter

In case anyone is interested, the backup generator at 3:40 has a Wisconsin TJD engine. They burn about 3/4 gallon per hour at half load, (I own one) so that tank on there would no way keep all those lights running for 72 hours.

I believe the twist actually means a lot. At the beginning of the movie look lets that random guy die because he was selfish and alone. Throughout the movie it reveals how awful of a person look really was. He didn't believe god was around anymore and didn't care about anyone or anything but himself. He just wanted to survive. But during the movie Look meets these other people that changed him. They gave him hope. They became his friends. Whenever Look learns about the colonies that disappeared and the word croatoan being left behind he thinks nothing of it except for a stupid story. But when he leaves James for dead he drives away and sees the word croatoan, he realizes that this is just like the story. He realizes that everything going on is biblical, there is meaning behind all of this and he can't let everyone die. He doesn't know what's ahead of him. He only knows about James. So he turns around and saves james. Look has great character development throughout the movie. He changes and starts to realize that there's more to life than just himself. With James and the little girl alive, it's a new start. A new world. Earlier in the movie the survivors said it's a redo button, a blank state. The 2 kids are like adam and eve. Croatoan is proof there is a bigger picture than just Look

I watched this movie a few years back while going to Illinois with my dad and step mom, I absolutely LOVED the movie.

This movie reminds me of when a kid a I knew showed me a algebra problem he got from school. After telling me the method i used was wrong he drew a answer on the board in a way that makes no sense and said his answer was right while refusing to explain how he got that answer. He did this 3 times until the person from his same class said that he has no idea where he is getting these answers or methods from they were never taught in their class. Moral of the story is, If the writer refuses to explain just wtf is going on it means they actually have no idea and there really is no answer. They just expect you to make it up and go with whatever you can to try and make sense of things so they don't have to put the effort in.
Like the way he is trying to put sense into the movie makes it more enjoyable

As for creatures,they are dead souls that accidentally came into this world for second time.The only way for dead souls to not go back to the world of dead is to make others die and dissapear.
There really is no scientific explanation for this, so we'll just have to go with god's will. Which means that those kids are destined to survive. So yeah, probably they will repopulate the world. Though that shouldn't be possible, since they will be heavily inbred. Ah, god will take care of that.

If the sun is rising later and setting earlier, then that means the earth must be slowing its rotation in the duration of time that this particular region is in the dark. So that means, all they need to do is travel to the other side of the earth which has longer days now lol

The reason james hesitated to lower the weapon at Darth Vader was because he knew what he did to the padawans.
They were like animals, and he slaughtered them like animals! He hates them!!
Theory of mine: ok so I usually don't pay attention to movies and just enjoy the action but this time at 5:57 I thought... The baby might be alive. So you know how people disappear by the shadows and ONLY their clothes are left behind? Well Rosemary didn't see that I believe. If she did it would probably been added. But it wasn't. So the baby maybe didn't disappear. It could've had a lamp on that saved it. And then someone took it to safety. It could of been the little girl. After all she seems as if she knows where a safe place is. So maybe she brought the baby there? But I think they just didn't think about adding that detail.
