  • Yes, there is confusion between what is Murano and Venetian glass, so we try to clear the Italian air here in this video while showing you my collection of Murano glass and discussing different Murano glass blowing techniques. Nice pieces I have a few similar to yours and have my eye on a couple I want to add to my collection. I new to this although my parents had a huge collection of art glass it didn't wow me until later in life.

      Pretty much every collection I have is thrift store, garage sale, etc. finds. I do own one piece of Murano where it took a little more of an investment, and I'll be showing it in part 2 at some point.

    Hey buddy awesome video some of the ashtrays you showed in the beginning are also called svuota tasche wich means empty pockets it was meant for you to put your coins wallet and what not ,Also buy a black light and see if those green pieces you have are also uranium glass, I'm Italian,right now I'm in Milan. But I live in Texas and my parents in italy have a few murano pieces from the 50s and they glow bright under UV light.

      Thank you so much for the information! (looked up svuota and no matching words in Italian. Is that how it's spelled?) I'm also in Texas, born and raised. Yes, I am on IG and FB. On IG look me up at AGO20thcenturymodern.

    I am now over 70 years of age. I have collected all types of Italian and Scandinavian class throughout my lifetime. I enjoy seeing how happy your collection makes you. Just remember, it's never too early to start thinking about what will become of your collection in the future. It has me totally stumped.😢

      Thank you. It is a lot of fun. I have collections of all types and they can be overwhelming. There are many outlets for selling it all off when the time comes, and hopefully it won't be anytime soon.

    THE BLUE ASHTRAY YOU SHOW AT ABOUT 4:14 IS ACTUALLY CZECH i AM SURE. THE GROOVES ON THE SIDE ARE STRAIGHT WHICH MURANO WERE NOT. ALSO THEY RARELY USED REALLY LIGHT COLOURS LIKE THAT. I HAVE IDENTICAL IN EAU-DU-NIL COLOUR.

    The green bowl at 6:55 or so looks to be made with Gold coloured Mica gather than gold. Compare the result for the gold in the following item - it is gold leaf in it.

    Bullicante and indeed any tatterned bubbles are created by roling glass over a set of spikes or into a mould full of spikes. When the glass is then reheated the tiny trapped air bubbles expand. So they are trapped air bubbles. 9:54 item is the one I refer to.

    The coppery looking stuff at 8:12 is called avventurine glass and was invent by accident in Murano. However it is heavily used in Modern Chinese wares so beware,

    Very Nice collection! May l ask you Who design the lucite and chrome lamp behind you? Thanks

    • @agomodern
      @agomodern  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Might be Lightolier, being that I picked up a Lightolier ceiling mount light fixture and found a binder catalog from Lightolier at the estate, but I don't know. (Wasn't in the catalog) BTW, Lucite is a brand of acrylic, so without knowing the manufacturer there is no way to tell if actually made by Lucite. I put a video out about acrylic, Lucite, and proprietary eponym, if you want to go check it out. czcams.com/video/3yfzZxahDlg/video.html

    Why don't your so-called "Murano" have the tell- tale potil mark? I've never seen " True Murano" polished that flat

    • @agomodern
      @agomodern  Před 4 měsíci

      That is EXACTLY how true Murano is, no pontil mark. Not sure where you get that idea.

    • @agomodern
      @agomodern  Před 4 měsíci

      @@cherylwilson8571 Blenko always has the pontil mark, so maybe that's where the mix-up is happening.

    Such a shame to think such beautiful pieces of art were made to accommodate stinking cigarettes

    • @agomodern
      @agomodern  Před 4 měsíci

      Someone from Italy commented on this video that they were also called "svuota tasche" which means empty pocket, so they were also used for wallets, keys, etc.

    • @wolfysays6311
      @wolfysays6311 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @agomodern ... which is still not a good use as it may scratch it. I'm sure you don't put anything in them.😊
