Today is my 64th birthday (born on 9th March 1960). Bobby Fischer is and will remain my absolute inspiration and gateway into the world of chess. I was only 12 when he beat Spassky at Reykjavik, and shortly afterwards I was playing in my school team. For all his faults, when he was in the zone, he was almost untouchable. God bless his tortured soul.
Unfortunately we don't share a birthday (and I'm a few years older) but our track records are similar. I'd 'played' for years as a wood-pusher, barely knowing the rules - much less any decent strategy! - until the Fischer PHenomenon peaked (the title match itself, preceded by the Candidates and those brutal play-offs) completely captured me in my late teens. Within months I'd joined a club, bought 'My 60 memorable games' and almost wore it out, volunteered as caretaker for two nights a week at the Sydney Chess Centre, won my first Open tournament. Not long after I joined a second club ("Army Reserve"!) and played A-grade for them before helping to establish a new club in a suburb closer to home. Collected a few prizes over the years and retired a decade later when life got in the way. :) But "Classic" Chess remains one of my first true loves. Salutations Bobby!
Agadmator is a complete gentleman, the level of respect this guy has for chess players doesn’t matter their ratings and how famous they are is something to be admired, even just a name pronunciation, respect is contagious keep it up.
I can honestly say no ones done more than this channel to get me into chess, what started as a weird interested in Bobby fisher blossomed into watching most of the videos on this channel. thank you so much!

Carlson drew 2 matches defending his title relying on speed chess to win those matches. - Bobby won 20 games in a row vs grandmasters leading up to 1972.
If we could magically put all world champions together while they all were in their prime i believe Fischer would be at the top, he was far ahead of the competition

To be fair, Germans had been immigrating to Argentina since the 19th century, with huge numbers immigrating in the 1920's. One of the reasons many Nazis chose to flee to Argentina was that a German community was already well established there. Pilnik immigrated in 1939 - he probably did so because he opposed the Nazis. I was still thinking the same thing you are saying though, lol. :-)
learned how to improve my game by replaying the Rejavik match between Bobby and Boris... my dad picked up a little book containing every move from every game.. so cool..
| remember playing at Wijk Aan Zee for the Corus Chess tournamentin 2008 (later Tata). Every WC since 1960 played in that tournament except for Fischer. Sadly Fischer passed away on the day of the first round so we opened with each player leting a minute run down in memory of Bobby.
The way that Fischer fearlessly pushed those pawns in front of his king is a thing of beauty! It would scare the living daylights out of us 1200ers!! 😂😂

I think Fischer was the kind of person that because of his high intellect was difficult to know but he saw the world at a different level not just in chess but in everything. He is kind of like the Nikola Tesla of chess to me.

Bobby Fisher was my hero growing up. He inspired me to play better chess and be on my high school chess team in the mid 70s.
Pushing the pawns in front of his king with Black's bishops set up the way they are shows incredible judgement.
Very cool of Pilnik to let Fischer play it out.
