Here is exactly what you need to do as well, and I've said it before when you were back in AZ. Start the bike up, let it idle to 160-170, let it get nice and warm. Take a spray bottle with water and spray each of your header tubes coming off the engine. The water should evaporate really quick and won't have time to run down the tube. When you find the one that is cold, and doesn't evaporate as fast as the other ones take that ignition coil and swap it over to a cylinder that was running hot. Now do the same thing again, if the cylinder that was cold is now hot, and the one that was hot us now cold, then problem followed the coil and needs to be replaced. If the cylinder that was cold stays cold, then you may have an injection problem.
That's right, it's such a simple test. Should've done that when they got back from the ride.
Or you could unplug each coil to see if it sounds different to pin point which hole it is just to pin point if itâs coils or injectors but all good info đđŒ
This exactly how I narrowed it down on my R6 last summer. My mechanic neighbor swore up and down I had an injection issue but I felt otherwise and proved him wrong. You could definitely just start swapping coils, but with him having issues starting the bike up, it's probably easiest this way
Dude i was getting ready to type up basically the samething. Try this first. Sounds like only 2 or 3 cylinders firing..... let us know what happens!
I thought he said he replaced all the coils with new ones
For sure sounds like itâs only running on three cylinders you should take a heat gun and check each exhaust runner for temp my guess is one of the three will be cold!!! And that will tell you where the bad injector or coil is
or just throuw some water on the engine and see which one is cold. or touch it when the engine is cold.
You know all I read comments too and that's really smart man I've never thought about that thank you for the input although I'm not the one making the video it's still you taught me something so thank you
I just use a little spit on the finger and touch them pretty easy to tell
Bro, definitely worth getting the fuel injectors cleaned. If problem still persist then can go from there
I can't believe they didn't clean them when they had the engine out. So easy to clean with a car battery a hose and some carb cleaner. He's a better Rider than a mechanic...
I'm pretty sure they replaced the fuel injectors and the rail. If they did highly unlikely it's not getting enough fuel

When that guy jumps out of the truck and unties the rope then says the famous words " yeeah baaybee" absolute goldđ€đŒđđ
injector problem bro or coils sounds like its running on 3 cylinders
Yes!
ĐĐŸĐŒĐŸĐčĐșĐ° ŃĐŒĐ”Ńла ! ĐŃŃĐŸŃ ĐČŃĐșĐžĐœŃ
I'd definitely say injectors. I had rust in my tank when I bought it and then the rust got into the fuel lines and pump and the injectors. It was doing the same thing. Changed all that and it was perfect
From an automotive mechanicâs point of view. Check your fuel pump and injectors. You can buy a fuel additive to clean everything. I personally think you should try to replace the injectors, coils + spark plugs, and if fuel pump is weak replace it as well. I wouldnât go through replacing the coils without doing the plugs. Theyâre all right together. If you have anymore questions I am willing to try and give more guidance as well
Just saying that has the same hesitation that one of my friends gsxr750 had when one of the coils was unplugged and it was down a cylinder! So it sounds like it has a misfire! Iâd put in the new coils and the new injectors and go from there good luck!!!
Could use a temp gun or spray water on the headers to diagnose a down cylinder. Just don't grab a đ full like JB did.
Furrby yep exactly it saves you a lot of time and headache!
You really need to come up with a way to keep the cluster attached when you're riding lol. That whining noise makes me wonder if you've got the cam chain too tight, but it's kinda hard to tell if it's just something in the intake that's making it or if its the engine itself. Anyway, I don't remember ever seeing you check the compression on the motor, it'd be a good idea to do that to make sure you've not got a cylinder that's just so low on compression it won't fire. I'd do that before spending money on injectors, just my opinion.
The whining noise sounded abnormal to me too. Checking compression also good idea.
Maybe output shaft or chain to tight?
I guarantee one of his cylinders has no compression
It's gotta be what the guy said in the beginning when you was at the Dyno, the shit has run through the fuel system... much love and respect â„ïžâ„ïžđŻđ€
Same problem with my 1990 Suzuki bandit 400 it wasn't getting enough fuel carried on dying out put a new fuel pump and filter and pipes and now runs perfect. đ
id be looking into the fuel pump, i know its turning on but is it getting enough voltage? is it supplying enough fuel? i doubt its the injectors but are they stock? timing is set correct? are all for cylinders firing?
Seen something similar on a gsxr where it was the cam chain slightly stretched so fine low revs and idle but when under load or high in the revs timing was out. They changed 4 wire looms throttle bodies all sensors ecu's before they figured it was stretched cam chain. And by stretched it was minimal not loads
10:13 vtec kick in yooo
ahahahha
Iâm gonna go with a bad ECU/ECM. Had a couple go bad myself. My neighbors was doing the same thing put a new used one in and a way she went.
First video I have seen. But, being a diesel tech for over 15 years, start by checking the compression in each cylinder. While doing that you can check the plugs for fouling and gap. If thatâs fine, put the plug in the end of the wire while not in the head. Hold the plug against a grounded piece of metal to check for spark. If it has a good spark, then go to fuel. Check fuel lines for obstructions. Fuel filter. Does it have any kind of vacuum system? Take the injectors out and go to a facility that can test them. A lot of times you can go to a tech school and they will test them for free as a learning aid. Run the over head and make sure the valve lash is proper.
I think it's going to be 1 of 2 things. My bet would be ignition coils. My R6 sounded exactly the same. Put new ignition coils in and everything was good. The other thing to do would be to zero out the power commander settings to get the fuel air ratios back to stock.
If the cylinder that was cold stays cold, then you may have an injection problem.
I had a similar issue with my 1999 R6 and I had all the ignition coils replaced and still did it. My issue was the fuel pump not giving enough gas but this was on a carb bike so I don't know if it would help checking the fuel pump
Ay u work on bikes a lot I slid out from my bike and cracked the right side of my crank case and thereâs a tiny hole now and the gas tank has a tiny hole from it sliding can I use JB weld to to seal it ?
Start with checking header pipe temps to see if your a cylinder down. Then swap things to another cylinder till the problem moves (coil, plug, injector etc). Also look at checking your intake manifold balance with a balancing tool (vacuum should be even on all cylinders and it will make things rough if too far out). Good luck!!
Just a idea whatâs the diaphragms in the carbs look like any cracks or way to pull air
If you have a decent scan tool . Check the pulse widths on the injectors. That's the only way to properly check if they're good .
Sick usof those headlights JB gave you Maxy!! Glad to see them put to proper use.
The flows are ridiculous; u got the rhymes for our minds!
either injectors, coil packs or ht leads. if it has a new spark plugs, fuel pump and filter really the only other things that can cause the engine to run bad would be those 3 in my opinion. I've worked as a mechanic for years and these are the things that come to mind. good luck.... cant wait to see her running smooth!
hey maxy did you guys check the injectors?I have a bandit i know its not the injection one i have but when i have this problems i was need to clean the carburator.
I was getting this issue on my katana and whenever I gave the ht leads/ spark plug caps a jiggle it got full power , may be the ht leads or plug caps
Dang, there is a name I haven't heard in a while. Enjoy that sporty Katana
waiting for this damn thing to get going good . good luck maxy
Maxy I ran into the same problem with mine. I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR THE WHOLE TIME! I soaked min in carb clean but there are many ways to clean them. Be careful with removing them with the age of the bike. Fixed my problem right away after spending money on spark plugs, fuel pump and filter
Check resistance on the coil pack and see if itâs up to spec
Looks amazing too, almost there man!
It sounds way better than last time , so u r on the right way dont get frustrated, keep it up babeee
Maxy be happy for the little thing it started and actually got ridden... It's well on the way to be back running right.... You have waited this long... Good things come to those who wait patiently... You have Jane freeda Toby and soon the gxsr... The first three are the best tho... Thanks for sharing... Much love... Stay healthy...
As the comments suggest. 1) temp test. A cheap IR temp gun from harbor freight. 2) check temp at each exhaust port. A dead or misfiring cylinder will be colder than the others. 3) take injectors out and soak them in sea foam. Replace the orings. Also do a click test on the injectors. A bad or gummed up injector solenoid could be biting you. 4) if you can get a local shop to test the injectors after you clean them it'd be best.
I've seen the exact same thing with an 03 gsxr1000 I work at my uncles mechanic shop but it was the dyno jet and it needed a new exhaust valve
love your videos keep up the good work im in the middle of my project fixing a kawzaki ninja 9zr
She Lives!!! That ride had to be a major relief
Good on you to keep working on that bike. I would have brought that damn thing out to the desert long ago to use it for target practice.
Make sure u have injector pulse on each injector if u do then u can clean them plenty of vids on youtube also verify each ignition coil is working
What cc fuel injectors did you get
You'll get it maxxy, all projects throw curve balls but it sounds like it's got the potential to be such a beast. Definitely running lean and seems like a fuel issue.
Iâm not sure if someone other than dynojets made this statement already but Iâve had similar issues with my 08 Katana. When I first got the bike I had non stop fueling issues causing bogging at all points in throttle. The sediment in the gas tank continued to clog the tiny fuel pump filter screen. My solution was to let the tank sit in evaporust for a few days then resealed the tank with por-15 (liquid sealer). Ever since Iâve had no issues at all with the fueling. Multiple people diagnosed it as just a bad fuel pump or injectors. It really doesnât take much at all to clog the filter screen and inside of the little housing the sediment will build up where you have to scrape it out with a paper clip. Iâd pull the fuel pump and check that filter again. If itâs gunked up itâs worth while to clean the tank or get a new tank in general. Remember, as long as thereâs even a slight bit of sediment it will clog the screen since the gasoline will constantly knock off gunk within the tank. I actually couldnât clean the tank all the way so I ended up letting it dry out and sealed the crap in there over with the por-15. To realize this resolution, I cleaned the filter screen, put a little fresh gas in there and boom it was fine for about 5 minutes so I know my issue. I never comment on videos or anything but it was such a pain in the ass for me to figure out with little to no online info I figured I might be able to help you. Drop me a message if you have any questions.
It could be an ECU (engine computer) issue. One of the injector drivers may have failed. Its definitely only running on 3 cylinders.
It got that badass look though..... Great work maxy
Much respect and great videos bro keep them coming
I had a friend with the same issue on his Zx6r. 2/4 cylinders had almost no compression.
@maxi How are you starting your bike? Why a race bike can be push started but yours needs to be pulled by a truck? Starting it in 1st gear?
Flop it in 3rd or 4th gear someone can push you and you ''jump'' on the seat to get traction and wheel not blocking and release the clutch simultaneously!
Works like a charm each time!
Try Throttle position sensor or could be rectifier regulator or sticking valves
If your running the dynojet tuner try removing and see if it helps it run better. I do know on most bikes the map sensor and tp sensor have the same plug and if they get mixed up can cause some driveablity issues.
Do those have a crank or cam position sensors?
hey maxy!!!! check this out dude let the bike idle for a wile and feel the headers, make sure all the pipes are warming up,if no then you are not running on all cyl.also getting injectors cleaned or new injectors will be great as the ones you have might be oversized, check your spark plugs to find out if it is running rich or lean .also might help to take it for a ecu mapping someone could have messed with it in the past even make sure the distribution cables are making decent connection, best thing to do is one step at a time piece by piece!!good looking bike bruv!
Great rebuilt! Do you have stock gearing?
Yea babyyy . Mixer power!
Damn maxy, sorry itâs not done yet but donât give up! I believe in you and ik you can turn that bike into a beast of a machineđŻđŻ keep up the good work mane!
I have the exact same model . And yes i am still riding her .I like to see that there is still someone willing to give the old gsxr 1000 a go. Had issues with it not running on all cylinders , i have noticed when i do the coil pack pull on the cylinder that was not firing it started to fire up halfway through the pull . So i changed the spark plugs and made sure the throttle bodies was synchronized . Did a tps adjustment to make sure it was synchronized via the display . -COO and not _COO. Now she is running like new . Hope it help bru.
The windshield bracket looks crazy without the breathers an everything, sounds good tho!!!! Love the lights
Awesome to see the gsxr running I have a 1996 gsxr 750 bored out to 812 itâs insane wish I lived closer to you I want you to take it for a ride see what you think
Maxxy I saw an RC-51 with these problems on CZcams, and problem was the FPR. Like you mentioned # 2, Fuel Pressure Regulator. Good Luck Maxxy, you so close to having it done. PEACE PEACE Maxxy !!!!
Keep up the good content bro loving it. u and Jane are great big love â€ïž
Check throttle position sensor. Also I try and leave the gauge cluster hooked up so you can see if engine light is on and what codes are showing up. To help give you a better direction. Cause right now youâre just throwing parts at it. If you took it to a shop most likely the first thing they are gonna try and check is to see if codes are present.
When you cracked open the engine, you should have replaced the cam or timing chain before reassembling. I'm in agreement about changing the gas tank, there just is to many places that rust particles could be slowly flaking off to plug the injectors and also check hose lines for vaccum leaks, which means all the hoses should have been replaced. Find out where that engine whining is coming from, that can also be a problem. Don't give up Maxy, we're all hoping you get this project completed. Good luck, your neighbor of 2 hours away. Hope to meet up with you.
Never give up maxy. Your the man with the plan Bay Bee!!!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđđżđđżđđżđđż
If your getting spark at your spark plugs check your coil packs. I know it sucks but I would also check your fuel filter on your fuel pump to see if thereâs any build up from rust or dirt.
When you lower the tank you have to bend the fuel line forward. Check for kinks in the line, the next step is to check for a clogged fuel filter/fuel regulator by doing a flow test. Does the bike have an exhaust control valve? You might have that symptom if it didn't fully open, youâd have a C46 error. Clogged injectors? Some injector cleaner might be worth a shot. You could also check their resistance on them. Or the c battery with extend wires in a small container with fuel trick if you canât check resistance. If none of these work you need to check vacuum lines. Vacuum lines make sure they are all connected and that they are not cracked kinked or brittle. Can check for cracks and missed connections by starting fluid and spraying lines while running if the idle picks up its needing replaced. Also check the TPS sensor if it isnât. Sending signal correctly it will send wrong fuel amounts.
If itâs not the coils and you did some rewiring then check the wires to see if there all in the perspective places if itâs not the wiring then check the cylinders to make sure their all working properly running the way they need to.
Maxy, try to change the TPS (throttle position sensor) because they have to give a nice linear voltage curve. Did you change the ignition coil when changing the spark plugs? Little Joe
Chexk the pattern on those new injectors ive seen new ones not work
Fuel injectors floats take it apart and clean everything. Sucks doing it but you will see a big difference my buddy's bike was doing the Same thing and he beat himself up over it
I would check your charging system. My 2005 gsxr600 died off after a while of riding. So I changed the rectifier and stator and no more problem. Definitely change injectors.
Can you plug in the clocks and see if there any error codes you have to turn the bike on first and then bridge the plug or else it will just shoe c00 have you gat all the air sensors plugged in is tps set correct with the dashed lines on the clock sounds like its only firing on three after you have run it put your hand on the headers and of one of the pipes are cold thats the cylinder thats not firing also check the fuel filter and make sure the fuel rail is pressurised you also need to make sure the ignition timing is firing at the correct time
Tps sensor maybe, or throttle body sync
Are you going to get a windshield for the gsxr
Maybe its gettimg to much air?
My ninja was bogging and i had to put a filter on that had less airflow and it fixed it right up, can go full wrist now instead of 25%
I remember watching one of your videos where you jammed the coils on to the spark plugs without removing the top rounded nut on top all of the spark plugs. You may have spread open the connection from the coil to the top of the spark plugs you should recheck it to make sure that the spark plug clicks onto the coil. Baybeee đ
Not a bad thought at all! Deff a firing issue from something whether fuel or spark it's not running on all 4 for sure
it is injectors or tps sensor dead plug or coil someting with spark or fuel
im thinking same thing, clean the fuel injectors
Never give up maxx w.
Check your engine timing ...possible intake or exhaust camshaft out of timing...hope this helps.
Did you check for cracks in the head before you rebuilt it?
Don't give up on it.....But also in future never buy a non runner. The electrics alone on one of those can be a nightmare to figure out. Keep at it good luck.
Loving the maxy fam what's good baby đđ€
Sounds like it might be in limp mode. Have you checked the stva? Those are notoriously known to go out on gsxrs
I had a similar issue on my gsxr600 turned out to be bad injectors and my throttle position sensor was too far advanced.. if you had a cluster you put the bike in dealer mode and next to the c00 thereâs a line and it needs to be in the center so it looks like â-C00â (assuming you have no codes, if you have codes it would obviously say C and a number)
Fuel injectors, and all though there are new ignition coils and sparkies, you still seem to be dropping a cylinder or maybe even 2 from time to time. My friend has this problem on his dirty birdie stunted R6
An old GSXR 750( carbed) sounded and did the exact same and turned out to be electrical - I haven't been keeping up to date, but remove the power commander and check that the wiring loom is sending correct voltages everywhere d
Get a heat gun check each pipe temp when running to see if ones colder, test for spark and compression test each cylinder at same time, get injecters flow tested and cleaned or a new set if there bad but if fuel is dirty from lines/filter/tank your injecters will always get dirty. (not sure if tanks been changed might of missed episode) do hope you get it running good.
Haha you ride it he reckons!! I want the twin bak!
You got this brotha in time she will run fine.
Eyooo maxyyy goddd the long awaited episode
Have you tried replacing fuel rails after you cleaned your injectors?
Clean your injectors. And make sure your tps is calibrated and positioned correctly. If you donât have the cluster hooked up you wonât be able to position it properly. My old 02 gixxer 1000 used to bog down real hard and sputter if you went full twist. Kinda how your is
new battery and check the fuel lines for kinks. also see if the tank cap is letting pressure out the tank, there are vents. if not that - ppl are right ignition coil or Injection pump or both. keep it up maxy
Did you buy the coils new? If not I would start with testing those because usually when fuel injectors go bad they either are stuck open or stuck closed and donât really change under a load. I am not to familiar with gsxrs but make sure the wires that go to the coil packs and or the fuel injectors are not crossed because that could also be your problem.
Maxy on the left hand side of the bike there is and ideal adjustment screw just above that there is a nut for the cold start idel if you turn that anticlockwise it will increase thr cold idel speed this will deffenalty help with the starting and cutting out problen i have a k4 and it kept cutting out on start up i set the cold ideal speed to 1500 rpm and it solved the problem it might help it might not just throwing it out there bro
Also check the cam angle sensors and throttle position sensors. But I'd get a digital thermometer and have it running and see if all 4 are running and hot.
just found out the first cylinder wasn't firing
Yes glad u got it figured out
Awesome content keep it up
I love the passion you have for your bikes. A true inspiration.
Have you checked the valves on the bike ?? Get some feeler gauges and check the clearance
Awesome broski!!! Yeeeeaaaah Baaaayyyybeeeee!!!
If the cam chain tensioner is auto adjusting..then swap it with a new one (manual one) as the auto one cannot be readjusted but only swapped for another auto one or manual one..
However if its a manual one existing in there, no need to replace, juat re adjust it..they do loosen over time..
