River Treasure: Found FULL Military Bag in the River!!! (Deadly Weapons Found - Police Called)

- In this video, an afternoon of river treasure hunting with my brother in law Colton quickly turned into night, after finding a military bag at the river. Inside the bag was a holstered and LOADED Kimber Pro Carry II Handgun, a bag of 45 Caliber Hollow Point Bullets, an extra magazine, a knife, a $300 Military watch, money, car keys, and a big bag of wet wipes. We also found some bluetooth speakers, sunglasses (Ray-Bans), lighters, a hearing aid, and a Working GoPro Hero Plus!

I contacted the police and met with them to turn the gun over to the police (included in the video). After they ran the serial number, they discovered the gun was not reported lost or stolen, or even registered to anyone, however I was told I could not have the gun back and it will be destroyed... :(

I would challenge for ownership at the 30 day mark. Bullshit, they destroy THAT gun since YOU found it, did your civic duty in having it checked by PD, and if it's not stolen, or used in a crime, I would demand its return. I'm an artifact hunter and I once found a Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm wrapped up in a flannel shirt and thrown into a river. I called the non emergency number and waited for police to arrive for 2 hours. They never came, so I went home. At 3 AM I wake up to cops pounding on my house door looking for the gun. When I opened the door they had their weapons unholstered and in hand. They treated me like a suspect, tried to gain entry to my home without warrant. Tried to question me about why I had the gun. Never again will I ever call the cops on a find of that nature.
How would they enter your home without a warrant? That would be a very easy civil case against them.

I mean if you're outside the US, pretty much anywhere, you'd be illegally owning a gun. If you're inside the US, you're allowed to own a gun, right?
If I were to find a gun, I pretty much wouldn't even be allowed to touch it without professional supervision. Owning a gun here is downright illegal without a permit, and requires proper certified storage, a clean criminal file, and a yearly check.

Yeah, as soon as that Kimber came out of the water, I would have disassembled, cleaned, and oiled it very well and let it sit. Those cops will keep it and tell you anything. The owner never reported it which means it is "NOT STOLEN." You can't report something stolen that wasn't stolen. You have the camera footage to back it up. Finders keepers, loosers weepers. You lost a SWEET GUN to a cop that will take it home or sell it.

Not worth it, you dont know the history of the gun. Could be a murder weapon. It's better to just give it to the police. 1k is not enough money to go to jail for if you were ever caught. Also, that gun could give someone closure. You just dont know.

I reported two weapons missing when my car was towed in WV. The car went to the crusher. The tow yard owner told me they were turned into the cops to be destroyed. About a year later a friend of mine (navy recruiter, I was a Marine recruiter) told me he was shooting with a local cop friend and the cop told him he picked the guns up from a local tow yard from a car that went to the crusher. I had told the navy recruiter the story before and he came back and told me the type of weapons the cop had and they were all mine. That gun went from that cops hands to his personal vehicle when he went back to the station.

Well you did the right thing checking on the gun. You could have easily checked on the internet also. But odds are - you just gave away a $900. gun. I do not know how it works in your state: but in Oregon, you lose a gun and report it stolen, you need to come in once a year and report it stolen or they drop it from the reported stolen list. So, what I guess I am saying is, don't let them forget about you. It is your gun, unless the owner claims it.

They lied to you, man! They can't destroy the weapon HB2455 in the Arizona Revised Statutes states that law enforcement agencies cannot destroy turned in firearms.. Tucson actually had a big lawsuit against it. The Law states: "Notwithstanding subsection A of this section, if the property is a firearm, the court shall order the firearm to be sold AGENCY SHALL SELL THE FIREARM to any business that is authorized to receive and dispose of the firearm under federal and state law and that shall sell the firearm to the public according to federal and state law, unless the firearm is otherwise prohibited from being sold under federal and state law.� A law enforcement agency may trade a firearm that it has retained to a federal firearms licensed business for ammunition, weapons, equipment or other materials to be exclusively used for law enforcement purposes."
So, basically, they sell them at private surplus auctions to FFL dealers, and/or trade them for their own benefit.
Even if they claim that the gun is being destroyed, it will wind up in some cop's gun safe.

Nah. It's standard procedure, same thing happens if you find one in a storage unit, my father in law used to do this storage unit auctions and he found guns before. They run the numbers and if no one ever steps forward to claim it it just sits in evidence for the rest of time.

I found a beautiful expensive ring on one of our beaches here in Perth WA. I turned it in but gave them the wrong beach name. After three months, if no one collects the item it's mine to keep. So anyway, three months pass and I hear nothing so I went in personally to pick up the ring because it had to be there right? Wrong!!! I was told it had been claimed the week before, so I asked for the persons details and was told that they don't give out the details. I then told the officer on duty that I had given the wrong beach name by mistake and that the ring was actually found at a different beach. The officer went a bright red, then composed himself and said "ITS BEEN CLAIMED" very loudly. I am a 66 year old man and don't take this sort of thing lying down, so I told the officer I was going to go to a radio station and tell them the story. I got a call the following day saying that the ring had been stored in the wrong place (if you believe that fairy tail you'll believe anything) so I picked up my ring and eventually sold it for $$3,500:00 which paid for my next detector. Now if I find anything expensive I put it on Gumtree (free advertising) for a couple of months. It's not going back to the cops, that's for sure..

1) everything in the bag has been soaking in the water for who knows how long, it's not going to get more wet
2) when in the water things separate nicely, once you pull them out they start sticking together making it more difficult to see what's in the bag. Chances are if he pulled that gun out with it being cocked like it was, outside the water, there is a chance it would have gone off.

Dude love your channel. I love what you do. I use to fix small electronics as a hobby and purchased tons of water damaged items. In most cases its the power supply ( battery ) that is damaged. You can soke these electronics in isopropyl alcohol and replace batteries and 90% will work again. The fact your return stuff says alot about you. My five year old wants us to do this after watching your videos with me
