Had an interesting experience in an S2000 some years ago. The oil filter span off and squirted oil at the exhaust header! Turns out there’s a torque setting for the filter, and some aftermarket tethers are available. It seems that the resonance of the vtec motor can cause this at certain rpms. I’d have thought it was a load of rubbish if it hasn’t happened to me!

Maybe you can get the brabus deal back on, or before the season goes I'd do it cheap to get rid, otherwise you'll be waiting till next year, I got rid of a z4 cheap last week and am getting a mgtf and mx 5 up this week, I'll try for a good price but tbh they're going no matter what I'll run a sports car in winter tbh but not many will, I'm totally giving anything random or sporty a miss now, insurance has all gone up plus rents mortgages I'm going totally for bread and butter cars, bought an UP this week 2600 on a 63 plate quick vallet, sold in a couple of days, no hassle. I've noticed its been quieter of late.

Electronics are the bane of modern cars. Fortunately, I've only ever had one problem with a car that made me take it back to the garage and get a refund. I passed my test back in November 69,aged 17, and a few days later my parents bought me my first car, a Hillman Imp (yes, okay, hahaha). We picked it up on a Monday evening. I took it to school on Tuesday but had to drive uphill in first. That evening I set off with my granddad to pick up my dad in Glasgow but never got there as the clutch burnt out on the motorway. One of my uncles towed us back. Took it back on Wednesday morning and got a refund. A shock entry to the world of driving.

Hi James, sorry to hear about the smart playing up. Funnily enough, I had the same issue when I purchased mine years ago. It did it on the way home at the petrol station 2 mins after buying it 200miles from home.. Turned out the sensor was loose! They are a bit prone to sensors playing up and then 'computer says no'. 30k after it is fine... As.you say, they are an 18 year old car and well out of warranty, so replacing a few bits is to be expected.

    • @ChopsGarage

Worth a go. Seem to remember it wasn't too bad to get at with a few bits removed. But when you get that far and have the part it was worth changing it as I'm sure you will anyway.
I know you love a private seller tale. I rang the guy I bought it from when this happened literally ten mins after rather than call the AA - just to ask if he'd had this before and if there was a work around (not to moan, I knew I had no rights...). He told me a tale about his garage saying if something like this ever happened to wiggle a certain area of wiring... 2 mins later and a wiggle in the right place and I was on my way! A known fault at sale I'm sure, but those are the risks. Buying from a good dealer like you who always goes the extra mile would have been worth the small extra!

Hi James, thank you for the content, I can only imagine the time it takes to edit etc. Are social services aware that you are exploiting and employing child labour??
Bad luck with the not so smart "Smart" car. Glad that business is booming, "This time next year Rodney"!!!!!!
Must leave you with another joke,
Elderly lady goes to the doctor and asks if he has anything for her husband to take to help him in the bedroom department? Doctor says he has some pills but to be very careful with them as they are very powerful and to take one only before any activity, she says Thank you doctor and off she goes.
One week later she is back at the doctors and states, "Sorry to bother you doctor but we had a mis-hap with the tablets- she told him her husband did not read the label and took all the tablets in one go- Doctor, horrified asked her what had happened, Well doctor we were sitting down for an evening meal and the next moment my husband pulled the tablecloth off with cutlery, crockery and food spead all over the floor-he then stripped me naked bent me over the table and was at me for well over two hours- Doctor was understandably apologetic - Lady replied Not too worry about it doctor we probably wont go back to that restaurant again.
Have a great and profitable weekend. Alan B (Nottm)
