      24/40 is horrible. That needs to go to double deck or something. Construction to widen it would be very expensive because of land acquisition and bedrock through that area.

      personally, nashville needs both a mass transit makeover and a freeway makeover. for the freeway makeover, i think collector/distributor lane setup for interstates 40, 65, 24, 440 and the new 840 would be better. it would seperate local traffic from the thru traffic more efficiently. if possible tho, have one or two lanes of the collector/distributor lanes on both the local and thru lanes as "express lanes" or "HOT lanes". widening of briley parkway and interchange improvements to DDIs, SPUIs, or other more innovative interchanges, as well as what we cities skylines players call "lane mathematics", where you have one or more for exit only, and the rest for straight on, no muitlple way lanes where you exit and go straight.
      as for the mass transit makeover, rapid bus and some trams in downtown nashville, with a couple of rapid bus and tram hubs, one on north side of downtown and one on south side of downtown, with rapid buses being the majority for metro nashville, while downtown and some parts outside of downtown can have trams instead of buses. downtown nashville is more densely packed than the rest of nashville and the metro area, so rapid buses wouldn't be enough, trams would tho. but downtown nashville might have enough for a single loop in downtown nashville, since downtown isn't that big.
      i don't have a fancy degree in civil engineering, nor do i claim to, but i am well researched in infrastructure, and while not a good credital, played city builders since 08. thats the way i think nashville can improve itself a lot, but it will take billions for both projects combined, and i don't recommend choosing one or the other. theres a reason why i suggested the use of express lanes, like in georgia, to better finance it afterwards. also and lets be honest here: simply adding lanes to solve traffic, like a lot of city planners think can work, it doesn't. improving or replacing existing at-grade intersections and interchanges does work. for example, memphis has 3 new and much needed ramps and when i did lyft down there, even during rush hour the new interchange flyover ramps and such helped to keep traffic flowing. beforehand if you wanted to get onto 40 to get to downtown memphis, you would have to exit at the next exit, after going through a bottleneck, now you just need to take the new ramps to 40 west. that in itself improves the interchange between sam cooper, 240 and 40 considerably. the addition of new lanes for the new flyover ramps also do a hell of a days work and kept with lane mathematics very well too, i have to give praise to TDOT for that much.
      anyways, this comment is long enough already, at the very least hope i made ya ponder!
      edit: i forgot to include in the freeway makeover portion that it would be cheaper to do double deckers or even quad-deckers in place of what is already there now. (quad-decker 5 westbound/northbound lanes bottom [2 thru lanes, 3 local lanes.], 5 eastbound/southbound lanes second level [2 thru lanes, 3 local lanes.], 2 westbound/northbound express lanes third level (with enough room for 3 additional lanes later if city needs it.), 2 eastbound/southbound express lanes fourth level. (with enough room for 3 additional lanes later.))

    way more detail in this vid w/this setup!
    only odd thing seemed to be some sort of shake or stutter.. not sure if that's due to focus breathing / refocusing, or the camera itself shaking around / lens/sensor stabilization causing it.
    also were you shooting at 50mm or zoomed in? perspective felt sort of compressed unlike the usual wider-angle feeling. kinda surreal feeling.

    I think the differences were most noticeable on that onramp to the Briley. Of course, that could be because the onramp tries to do a cloverleaf loop in 73 feet.

    Spent a lot of time in Nashville in the mid 90's including a lot of time in Spring Hill. I agree that you should go back to your old camera. This one made me car sick with the zoom. If you are looking for a good camera to shoot road videos, try the GoPro Hero 8. Great stabilization, 4K, uses battery and cable power, with a 512 memory card (and external power) you can shoot all day, easy window mount, and great settings for night driving. It's not bad to show a small section of hood because when you zoom any amount, the result is you are going to make some people (like me) car sick. Glad to see you are back doing videos. Great way to pass the time. Thanks, Jim.

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  Před 4 lety +1

      My old camera is fine, this was just an experiment and yes I will go back to it. I won't have the hood showing, to me it's just too amateurish. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.

    The "Tennessee T" sections (or the "Splits" as we call them in N AL), ARE the makeover! I-65 used to run on the other side of downtown. Briley Parkway is great driving. It's a game among Nashvillians (and frequent visitors): how can I get across town WITHOUT getting on the freeway? When my sister lived up there, I got really good at it!

    • @valecrassus7835
      @valecrassus7835 Před 4 lety

      I'm not sure but unless you're referring to a time before the 1970s or something when there might have been an interstate but no inner loop per se, I think you're mistaken. The driver starts from I-40 eastbound (as if coming back from Memphis) near Charlotte Pike/White Bridge Road. The interstate wraps around the western side of downtown before coming to the 40/65 fork, and the driver takes the 65 South fork to the right, which takes him on the leg of the "inner loop" that goes just south of downtown, which serves as the demarcating line between what we call Downtown and Midtown (where Music Row is, among many other things). If the driver had taken the left fork instead, that would have continued along the west side of downtown and crossed the Cumberland River before coming to the 24/65 fork. Taking a right turn at *that* point would have led him on the leg of the inner loop that goes north of town, eventually reaching yet another split on the northeastern corner of downtown where 65 continues southward along the east side the inner loop and 24/40 continue eastbound for a few more miles. The driver approaches this same split from the south at 2:35 in the video but takes the right fork to follow 24/40 where a left turn would have taken him on the north side 65/24 loop.

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  Před 4 lety +1

      It depends where you are going and what kind of drive you want (freeways, back roads?), the east coast is a pretty large area but I'll tell you now, nothing on the east coast will come close to being as enjoyable, interesting and beautiful as US-101 in California is IMO.

    The only negative thing with the new camera was when you would go under overpasses, it seemed like the camera would zoom out while under the overpass, and go back to normal once out of the overpass. Also, during certain times, there seemed to be frame drops, but other than that, it was a very great video. Also 0:46, very nice view of the interchange and view.
