Not really, who cares. If I can get the exact same item for cheaper I’m all for it.
that's what happens when you manufacture in china. intellectual copyright does not mean the same thing in China as it does in North America.
Yea just like the lawsuit of area f2 which is a knockoffs of rainbow six siege ,they can't sue the company in China so they sue Sony because allowing this game to be released although is genuinely lookalike
@@mathewwillenbrink142 really I would assume the design of the knife would be their intellectual property? I'm not a lawyer though
the term “copyright infringement” doesn’t translate terribly well to mandarin
Happens in North America all the time. All they have to do is change the design slightly and it becomes pointless to litigate. It's almost impossible to prove in a case like this. On top of that, if the blade retainer and blades themselves are not proprietary then all they are claiming is a folding design and general handle shape. Not worth the court costs.
Happen here in the US all the time! It is not just a Chinese thing!
I'm really glad you made this video. This had to be said. I see guys buying knockoffs and trying to say it's just as good as the original and it just isn't. Buying a knock off hurts the original maker. It degrades the value of their product. What's bad is sometimes someone buys something thinking it's the real thing and it breaks, or doesn't hold an edge, falls apart, something... and they think it's the manufacturer and all it is it's a knock off. Buyer gear from reputable sellers. New or used look into who you're buying from.
Well there are two sides, those who agree with what you said and those who don’t. Personally I don’t make enough to be able to make a purchase a micro tech utx-85, for $200 and up. But I still love the look, so here I am owning a knock off for $37. And am more happy then I could be about my product. I’ll stop buying knock offs, when products aren’t $200-400.
@@salamitsunami4712 I cheap us fuck if there is a cool looking knock off I will buy it.
@@iawindowss4061 @iawindowss @iawindowss Yep. Why are you just repeating the same thing he just said but with moronic grammar? Weird. ? 🤔. Are you making silly?😁
If American knife companies
*covid cough bnnchmaid cough*
keep charging $200 for a knife that they produce for $16, I'll keep buying a knock off for $27.
I, of course, welcome your PayPal donations if you believe this is such a fundamental sacrilegious blasphemy to your perspective worldview that you wish to be a crusader for your beliefs. (PM for PayPal address!!!)
Joking aside, I own 8 benchmade's, 12 spyderco's, ZERO Microtechs, and 4 kncok-off benchwades©, 4 kncok-off spyderho's, and 2 kncok-off MT's. Do you own any of these recent Griptillian/Bugout clones? If it's too detrimental to your patriotically masochistic wallet, let me assure you - they are quality -(if you ignore the shitty "hold-nadda-edge" blade steel. But then again, I don't need *that* great of steel for a work knife.)
Although I will say my attitude seems to change when it is perpetrated on small, "custom"-type guys with small operations. Pretty perplexing..... I'm totally cool when it happens to the "big" names that, again - I *assure* you are ripping us off.
This is pretty hilarious. I just spent 10 minutes or so writing that reply and I think I misunderstood you the entire time. I'mma moron.
I think you were actually saying you **would** buy a cool looking clone. Jesus....how embarrassing. I'm such an ass........🙄
@@iawindowss4061 You are a piece of garbage re: your 2 comments. Shame on you!!!!!!!
I cant really prove it, but I was one of the original backers of the 3Coil Crane and Puna. Both of these tools were delivered to me last month for a perfectly fulfilled Kickstart. 3Coil stuck with it and gave the backers what they promised even with all the set backs that they had. Theyre a great company. Thank you for speaking up about it!
You are so right man! Mad respect for admitting your mistake and bringing it up! Companies who get stepped on deserve supporters like you
Well said Sir!! I appreciate and applause your sense of integrity.this is one of the reasons why I watch you're videos, also you seem like the kind of body it would be cool to just sit, chill and have a few beers and have a good conversation with.keep doing what you're doing.Be safe,be easy.
Thanks for making this update. I agree that this needed to be said. Look forward to the next video!
I'm glad that there are people like you who are willing to take the stand against situations like this and publicly reprimand the bad companies. Great video! 💯
They found another manufacturer. I received both my kickstarter reward. The puna and the crane.
Both of them can be purchased from Heinnie Haynes.
Lauren Scobie yeah the klarus S1 scalpel
This kind of video demonstrates the integrity of this channel above others. Subscribed.
Whoa, I was actually about to check this one online, since a small scalpel might get in handy at all times. That's a really shady situation. Glad you made the video Tay. I can actually say that something snapped inside me, after watching this video.
Well said. I’m glad to hear more and more people speaking out about this. I have been very outspoken about this in my local music industry with guitars.
What now? Can you elaborate?
*Edit - sorry, I realize you mean knock off guitars. My bad. What's the deal with them? The internals I'm assuming are bad. Is the wood/fretboard/machineheads comparable?
I think I'm so wrapped up in knife-nerdom that I think someone should be able to tell the difference immediately, but I think A LOT of folks would be faked out by a guitar on surface level until they spent some time with it and slowly realized issues as they arose.
Not sure if I'm making sense. I'm drunk and exhausted. 🤤😴
Thank you for making this video! Your honesty and your integrity in this matter reinforces my growing faith in your reviews and suggestions. Thank you for your leadership, courage and morality.
I was a backer of the 3coil puna and actually just recently received it. It's well crafted and i love it.
Thanks for making this video! I was about to buy that product for my edc tin. I am all about supporting businesses that come out with a great product but selling off a product that's not your own is very despicable. It's one thing if it was a knock off or a variation but to totally steal a design with someone that your partnered with is mind blowing.
Thank you! I almost bought a Titaner product, but fortunately found this when looking for a review.
there’s the Nitecore NTK 05 which is also similar. Not sure if it was an even earlier product or also is at least inspired by this one. However, I own it and find it incredibly useful. Opening letters, cutting strings, getting out splinters. It’s perfect for all this and other tiny cutting tasks and scalpel blades are dirt cheap. Its retention is ridiculous and I never had any worries about it’s safety.
I do agree about knock offs though.
Really good to see this video. Heinnie Haynes in the UK has the 3Coil tools too. This and another that looks like a little gun. At this time more than ever we should try and support smaller businesses!
Thanks for this video. I've been taken by a few products, especially on Amazon and Kickstarter. I try hard to find the original.
Thank you thank you thank you for making this video. This situation is so aggravating! I was considering getting this as well but I'm glad I didn't. I wish there was something that could be done to rectify though.
This is a principled and clear apology. I've watched a few of your vids but this was an instant subscribe.
I could not agree more. Thanks for drawing the line as clear and strict as you do.
Agree 100%...and the fact that you had the integrity to admit this is awesome...subbed
Oh, and my hat is off to you for making this video sir!! Well done!
Thankyou for speaking up about this!
😀
Glad I've seen this video bc Taurus wallets are a copy of the ridge wallets yet I'm not sure what the full standpoint on it, I always try avoid fakes, copies an I'm very very picky about tools an everything I use
Thanks for shining light on common chinese business practices. Similar things/copied are titled all over amazon and ebay
That's a Chinese company, which in China it's very common business practices. So actually this is a chinese-us company issue. US business at least practice within the US laws and ethics that protects creators. Chinese business's bottom line is money and not the law and ethics that we see as normal. We think this is a scummy move, but to Chinese businesses this is just another day in their life.
not to mention copyright means nothing in china. you can find chinese knockoffs of every product you can imagine.
What does the US have to do with a British design being manufactured in China?
@@grunions9648 similar laws
@@grunions9648 same concept too
You’re a really good guy. Thanks for making this video. Love your channel!
Good Man Taylor for making this video and letting your followers know about this!! Says a lot about you character 👍🏻
I salute your honesty and integrity - refreshing in this day and age. Thank you, sir !
Great review and concise. Thank you!
Is there any alternative knife that looks like this scalpel knife? Having second thoughts since this is a bit flimsy to be an edc item.
Thanx for the info!!! And keep up the good work sir.
Great job thank you for posting. Hope they can get compensated in courts.
Thanks for this video. I didn't know Titaner did this. I hadn't seen the Crane, maybe I missed the Kickstarter or it was before I started on Kickstarter, so this was all new to me. Regrettably, I did back and get the Falcon. I will be watching out for Titaner in the future.
Thank you for clarify this. I think the bright line is if a company is usurping the market for the original designer.
Kudos for taking this stance. I also backed the 3Coil Crane and while it took a long time to deliver - and some of the design iterations of the copycats may have more interesting features... I believe in supporting those who had the original idea, not those who try to capitalize on them.
Taylor Thank you for your advice i was going to Buy a couple of them NOT any more i will look at other types
Good for you for putting this video out and giving us this information.
Great Video, sadly this is happening a lot and consumers have to be careful. I buy as much American made stuff as possible But there are some really good foreign made products that aren’t Chinese. It reminds of buying a Swiss Army knife or a Morakniv or another brand that’s made over seas but are really good but there are always cheap imitations.
May you please make a video of knife customization and your preferred go to suppliers?? Love your content!
Who the hell is hating this? 29 so far. Must be from Titaner.
Keep up the good work Taylor. You have solid ethics.
Awesome brother thank you for letting us know this. Great support for 3coil. Stealing ideas means something to me to. Thank you for calling them out 💯🇺🇸
I backed the Crane on Kickstarter and have been waiting for it since 2018. I’m glad that someone brought this to your attention. Honestly I was losing hope after a year, but it looks like they are managing to push their product out despite being ripped off.
Great work and integrity mate. Very proud to be a subscriber.
Good for you brother... Keep it honest and keep on keepin on.
Thanks dude, you're doing the right thing man! Keep up the good fight!
havalon was the first knife i ever saw with the interchangeable and replaceable blades. they have a wide variety of sizes and blades, both stainless and surgical. a few years ago i noticed cabellas was selling their own brand of the havalon.
I totally agree with you. Thanks for keeping it real!!
Good for you for speaking out about it man!
Thanks. I linked to this in an Amazon review for this product.
I recently received my 3 coil crane. Seems great so far. Crazy small.
I actually bought the 3 Coil Puna from Amazon before seeing this video. It rides on my key ring and is a handy little knife with a good locking system for the blade.
I backed the original 3coil campaign and got mine just the day before yesterday. Thank you for posting this.
What watch are you wearing in this vid?
I've been a sub for a bit now. But now Sir you have my respect. Thank you.
I'm glad you brought this up. It's good to see some people still have stand up, solid morals. Keep doing what you do.👍😎
This channel is excellent, good content bro. Good vibes.
I soo appreciate this video! Companies like this will never get a dime of my money, but unfortunately without folks like you to shine the light on what they're doing, I wouldn't know to boycott them.
Thats the risk you run, having stuff made in China. Has happened before and I'm sure will happen again.
End China imports
Reduce wage or increase rich people tax first
@@liljuanito123 this would absolutely decimate the economy. Not just here but world wide. Hundreds of millions will be laid off...
Good to know.
Do you have a suggestion for a substitute?
I am very glad I found this video before the kickstarter ended. Canceled my pledge.
Definitely seen the rifle one and possibly the plain knife one on the uk site Hennie haynes, not really my kinda thing but I can appreciate the design work that went into them
Wait... Is this the same Taylor from another channel? Damn glad to find your new channel.
Hey I bought a titanium mechanical pencil from Titaner in 2015. I really liked it because it had a cap and was very small. I believe they sold very few of them, but does anyone know who they stole the design from so I can buy the original? I lost mine.
taylor, you can buy a 3 or 7 handle that fits the blades we use them in surgery all the time works great , be careful when putting the blade on, could cut deep
Any suggestions for a legitimate one? Preferably titanium and locking
Where do we stand on the Nitecore NTK05?
Whats the best type of pocket lint?
3 coil are making the crane and selling in the UK on Heinnie Haynes website, don't know who makes them, but its sold under the 3 coil brand
Way to go man! Way to do your research! I appreciate the correction.
Always have a bad impression about titaner, now these just seal the deal for me. Thanks Taylor for speaking up
Hey Taylor yes you can get the 3 Coil crane through Heinnie in the uk
What’s your opinion on Long Island watches “islander” watch?
My take is a little different with stuff like Ganzo. They might copy designs but they aren't fake in that they never claim to be Benchmade. I approach it opposite of what you said, I own half a dozen 940s but I still got a Ganzo knockoff to throw in the truck and forget about. I'll carry a 940 daily but I'm not rich enough to want to leave them stashed places just in case.
I backed the original 3c and received my crane. There were updates about the rip off and law suit which post poned delivery, followed by more post poned deliveries due to manufacturing in china and getting them out of the country during the protests.
Great dang video BDE. Keep the damn thing going!
Thankyou for bringing that to light. I have also purchased several Titaner products over the years & now have blacklisted them.
Unfortunately this kind of thing happens far to much & It's great to see Reviewers like Yourself, having the courage to speak out about this. Well done & keep up the good work...
There's also this thing called Nitecore NTK05 which i found after i saw Titaner in kickstarter (in which made me cancel the kickstarter pledge).
Taylor, great call out! I’m glad to see you say fakes are so wrong.
That's messed up. I absolutely hate greedy companies that do things like that. If you can't be profitable and honest, you shouldn't be in business. Thanks for the info! I wasn't going to buy that item, but now I'll watch out for anything from titaner.
Hey Taylor, Nitecore also has a folding scalpel....
That's odd cus klarus flashlights makes one called Ti-scal but it has locking mechanism
I was going to buy one today and I’m happy I didn’t because the original creators deserve my money, thank you!
Where do u get the puna on Amazon
Props on being able to admit that you made a mistake and that you are trying to rectify it.
I know they're not necessarily everyone's cup of tea but, given that this is off the table for the time being, any suggestions for similar scalpel-based tools?
You're looking good man! Keep at it!!
I had this backed, but just cancelled it after watching your video. Thank you for letting me know
Right on. 👊 I’m glad you made the video.
Ganzo has turned a corner. They even have a sub brand now. 😂 maybe you can check out some TwoSun knives. Nothing but quality there. Steels check out and they hire designers to make new models. I think every model they’ve had for a longboard while has been a collaboration with some young designers. Heck, Tepe designs knives for them.
Good job!!! Thanks for this video.
I wonder how many times this goes unexposed? Great job on the video. See ya next time.
So what about the klarus s1 ti-scal?
Dude 🙌🏼 I tip my hat off to you for this one bud🍻
I got the crane from 3coil, great EDC for a English guy like my self and would definitely recommend it.
I have a Titainer scalpel. Bought from the uk from a supplier i trust, the fact it does not lock makes it legal carry here so thats why I purchased this design.
Had I known that it was a clone of a premium knife from a small kickstarter I would have never purchased it. I totally agree with what you are saying too. Really shady practice with very little regulations across borders with different rules. Also I never saw the kickstarter for it.
Totally agree with the scary part. The detents are however very firm even after 6 months of use. I carry it in my pocket daily with a long capsule attatched with spare blades. that makes it a little more comfortable/safer to use.
Changing a scalpel blade on a knife this size is not for the faint hearted though.
I will say to anyone that is interested in one to swerve buying one. There are alternatives out there anyway. My heart goes out to 3Coil. I would have given them my money had I known. Lets hope they get a great result in their legal battle and chalk up a win big enough so they can carry on with the good work they were doing.
I will look further into 3coil products and see if theres something i can purchase to make up for the loss in some tiny way.
This is outrageous. Thanks for bringing that up, Taylor.
I was reading some of the comments, and here's something to add to the discussion: Why was 3Coil seeking production in China, when that could be easily produced locally? Exactly: to increase profit and/or marketability. That, my friends, is called capitalism. Whether you like it or not. But nobody here is blaming the UK designers for preventing UK or European specialized workers to make a living. Why?
I am not here defending Chinese companies for something everybody knows they do. All I'm saying is that's easy to bash China, Mexico, Romania or other places where labor is cheap for something that is standard practice in the industrialized world since the beginning: the knock off. The difference is, big companies have legal departments to tell them exactly what they need to change in the design to avoid legal trouble. Examples: the Hamilton Khaki Field watch or the Omega Moon watch. Most of the watch manufacturing companies in the world have a model that copies those two designs, obviously for a cheaper price. I understand it might not be exactly a replica, nor the design files were stolen completely, but still is a cheaper copy, made by less-paid workers.
Now, are we trashing Spyderco for having part of their production outsourced to Taiwan? Should we only buy American? Let's give up our iPhones, then.
Once more, I think it's outrageous what happened in this case, and I'm not by any means defending the Chinese company that did it - this was a rip off, not a knock off, and they had bad intentions from the get go. What I'm saying is every problem has different angles. Again, whether you like ir or not.
@ed_edc
Thank you I will not buy that one but I lost my nitecore NTKO5 miss it dearly I'm a machinc and lug nut put metal slivers in fingers and it works the best
Very good video. I've never heard anything like it. Thanks.
