- If you are visiting Perth, Western Australia for the first time, or planning to visit, Hyde Park is a park you have to visit and explore.
Hyde Park also a very popular meeting spot for locals is an inner-city Park was originally name “Third Swap and in the year 1897 15 hectares was gazetted as public space, then in 1899 it was renamed as Hyde Park.
It is a stunning Park with lots sloping grass areas that run down to 2 groundwater lakes central to the Park that look like Islands. Some people call them “Love Island” but not sure why.
There lots of shady areas with Tress such as Plane Trees positioned around the lakes. Then Moreton Bay Fig trees and Port Jackson Figs trees situated on the lush green grassed areas. Around the boundary of Hyde Park sits large Pine Trees, and on the South Corner of the Park are the beautiful Jacaranda Trees with flower an amazing light purple colour and are in bloom for around 6 weeks of the year in October/November where they display a full canopy of purple flowers, which can also be seen in many other suburbs around Perth. In Hyde Park there are also Red Cedar, Bunya Pine, Melaleuca and Eucalyptus Trees. There is also an abundance of Wildlife including Ducks, Swans and more.
The Hyde Park Fair is also held annually in the park, and is one of Perth's longest running free community events. The event was originally known as the Hyde Park Festival, and was first held in 1968 but ended in 1985. However in 1989 the Hyde Park Fair was brought back to life and currently run courtesy of the Rotary Club of North Perth
Hyde Perth is also a very popular spot for either weddings or wedding photos, and extremely popular of locals walking their dogs, joggers, walkers just enjoyed the beautiful surrounds, and even picnics, birthdays and BBQ’s (your chance to sing along to “Dance Monkey”or Ed Sheeran or just your favourite artist/band)
There are also two gazebos and a stage that are available for hire thru the local council “City of Vincent” (See below links for more information..
Hyde Park is located just 2km from Perth Central Business District and has easy access via a bus service, or a causal walk from Northbridge/North Perth.
Other facilities in the park include public toilets, playground equipment, BBQ’s, drinking fountains, pavilion, stage area, fitness equipment and a sealed walking path of around 800m in length ringing the lake. Electricity is available, which is used for a variety things including Weeding Equipment, or to power temporary fairground rides.
