I think it was the fact that this superbly engineered and assembled high tech engine came with plastic serpentine belt pulleys, but you could upgrade to billet aluminum pulleys. If it’s so finely engineered there shouldn’t be any upgrades available.
There are hundreds of types of plastic. Don't jump to conclusions if you don't know which plastic is used for making...Belt pulleys, Water cooler, compressed air cooler,(Intercooler) as well as most air flow pipes are made of PA (Polyamide) with a large percentage of glass fibers. So , high-quality plastic that withstands high air pressures, as well as high temperatures.

In the interests of balance, honesty, and propriety, please will AMG formally recognise that the first Mercedes 4 valve was from the British racing engine specialists, Cosworth Ltd. A 16 valve Mercedes 190E 2.3 litre model, unveiled in September 1983.

Electric motors don't have problems with hydro-lock cylinders if they drive through a puddle. A friend of mine had it happen to him. He had a new top of the line MB sedan -- a beautiful car until he tried to drive through a puddle. The intake manifold sucked in water from below and destroyed the engine. [Unlike gas -air mixture, water is incompressible during a compression stroke. The engine compartment looks wonderful, -- but be sure to watchout for puddles during heavy rain.
that's why after two-three years Mercedes is a money pit. The Japanese are the car experts, they can build a bullet-proof car that last more then twenty years
Hey, I bought an Audi A4 2.8, the one with five valves per cylinder in 1989. I still drive every day. The car has been well maintained. It is 25 years old, and I live in Canada, with its harsh climate etc. Sure, the Japanese cars are very good but be more objective, please.

Why does it cost almost $300 for an oil change? Parts like filters etc. are astronomical. My wife and I went and looked at a new Mercedes a few years ago but I decided against it because of the upkeep.
Overpriced badge engineered junk built to last the warranty period, Karl Benz would be spinning in his grave if he seen the company desecrating his name today.

These are made no differently to the many other engines mercedes produces ie rubbish. Its the very reason 90% sell on their ticking time bomb before the warranty runs out. In any case 'AMG' is now no more than a trim level. Even a C220cdi comes with AMG badges..
Incredible engineering applied to an engine that is barely 50% efficient. Someday, automotive manufacturers will have to comply with climate rules by removing the “four stroke sex” from engines. No more “screaming” at high revs - boring.
With the entry of EVs and the stringent emission controls, looks like all these IC engines will soon become extinct? Also, the emergence of humanoid robots, like Figure 01, will soon render 'personalised' work redundant, as robots will be doing ALL work meticulously, with no need for 'specialised' lines anymore 🤔
