  • ChatGPT, Lensa and DALL-E are giving more people without computing skills the chance to interact with artificial intelligence. These AI programs that can write detailed responses to questions or create stunning images based on prompts are all over social media.
WSJ personal tech reporter Ann-Marie Alcántara joins host Zoe Thomas to discuss how the programs work and the concerns that have been raised about their potential misuse.

I’m an engineering major in college and my friend just used ChatGPT to write my entire 2 page physics lab report for me. I don’t think universities realize the severity of this yet, and I’m scared to see how they will react once they do.

I think you are overhyping it, I've seen what it can do and it's not that shocking. It just regurgitates known articles.
It might shorten reports but I'd still be worried about plagiarism and where the sources even came from. That's the main problems with these ai, I've used em in the past.
I don't think it's that reliable ay least in college.
I think it will make video content easier to produce though, as research takes a lot of time online. I've done it before and it's a pain.

I have been working as a software dev for 7 years and just used ChatCPT to re-solve a very specific non-standard issue I recently solved. I pretended to go in blind and just described the problem. The AI then suggested the same steps and core approaches I ended up using when I solved the problem earlier. It almost felt like pairing with a real developer with the way it stepped through the problem.
Never before have I seen an AI come this close to solving problems like a human, at least not when software is involved for such specific problems. It definitely both fascinated and spooked me and I can absolutely see it replacing services like google and stack overflow, who I believed banned answers from this program... mostly because it threatens their business model.

But the prompts are lengthy and for a whole day spent putting in like 80 lengthy prompts, it came up to like 20 cents. If you live in the west, you could play around with the paid version all day with impunity without thinking about price. The same isn't true necessarily of Open AI's other products like Dalle2. If you spent all day playing with that you'd probably run up a bill of like $100 or more. Since they started testing GPT3 the costs have fallen considerably, like by a factor of 5 IIRC.

I also asked it to write a short story where pinky and the brain actually take over the world. This is what it spit back to me
    My Prompt:
Write a short story where pinky and the brain actually take over the world
    ChatGPT response:
Pinky and the Brain were two small lab mice who lived in a cage at a research facility. They were constantly subjected to experiments and tests, but they never lost their sense of humor or their determination to escape.
One day, Pinky and the Brain decided that they had had enough of being trapped in their tiny cage. They hatched a plan to take over the world, and they were determined to see it through.
The first step was to escape from the research facility. Pinky and the Brain worked together, using all of their cunning and intelligence to figure out a way to break free. Finally, they managed to slip out of their cage and make their way into the outside world.
As they traveled, Pinky and the Brain encountered many obstacles, but they refused to let them stand in their way. They used their brains to outsmart their enemies and overcome any challenges that came their way.
Eventually, Pinky and the Brain reached the center of power - the White House. They knew that if they could take control of the government, they could take over the world.
The two mice snuck into the White House and made their way to the Oval Office. They found the president sitting at his desk, and before he knew what was happening, Pinky and the Brain had taken control.
With the president under their command, Pinky and the Brain set out to take over the world. They used their brains to come up with clever plans and outsmart their enemies at every turn.
In the end, Pinky and the Brain succeeded in their mission. They had taken over the world, and they ruled with intelligence and wit. They were hailed as heroes, and their names went down in history as the greatest mice to ever live.
