The whole time I watch this video I thought back to my childhood. I'm a great grandmother's farm she had one of those at the back of the house in the yard near the vegetable garden. We used to take buckets of water and water the vegetables for her. And on those hot summer days she would let us fill buckets of water up and throw it at each other we would be soaking wet and laughing hysterically. All Summer Long her house would be filled with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing woman. Believe it or not the woman never had air conditioning in her home. She lived in Arkansas where the summer heat to be very intense much like the heat in Texas. She believed in being self-sustaining. She never got rid of anything clothing the children outgrew were boxed up and passed on to another child. And if they are too worn out or nobody wanted them she would cut them up and make quilts and blankets out of them pillows. Often she would make patches with them for when a spot on the sheet got thin or tore. Or one of us needed a patchwork clothing because they got ripped or hole in them they couldn't just be repaired with needle and thread. Her Barn / garage was like walking into an antique museum. Lord I miss that lady and I miss that childhood fun. Thank you so much for bringing childhood memories light. 💜
Very nice! I grew up in a similar way in the same state! I have great memories of drinking the cold water from the pump and tasting the high iron content of the ground water straight from mother nature
That's so cool. Try your best to keep up your great grandmas traditions and I hope that she passed on her to termination to all of her children grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
@@jester-gq9jq no problem I understood what you meant. My great-grandmother was an amazing woman. She raised eight beautiful children and one gorgeous stepdaughter. And taught each and every one of them how to be thrifty and use every scrap of everything. LOL I guess you can say she was repurposing before it was cool to repurpose. She shared the most amazing stories with us. We learned that she was born in a town that had no cars at the time people were still using horse and wagons or walking. She told the stories about the first roads going in and what life was like with and without electricity. But most importantly the one thing that she taught each and every one of us was how important family is. I swear we're probably one of the largest families in the United States. And it is said if your roots are tied to the Fitzgerald's you have family in every city in every state. So you are never alone. I love being a part of this amazing family. And until this day we are still learning about the history of our family. Thank you all for your kindness and interest in my story.
I have the trail camera out there at the bowl for about 2 weeks I might put another in the future for a longer period of time but nothing showed up until I rubbed a little bit of peanut butter on the concrete structure and it was a raccoon (edit) after any amount of time even just a day sitting this well will produce the first gush of water being bright orange as the pump itself is rusting. Not a big deal most I've dealt with in the past have the same issue the steel is so thick that it'll still take a few decades to rusted through not a big deal and I also added a stainless steel trough so the water can't fall back into the well possibly contaminating. Will do a 6-month or 12 month update seeing how they did after the first winter. Thanks for watching
Give it some time, once the critters find out there is a good water supply, they'll stop by for a drink, my brother has a piece of property up in upstate NY with a natural spring, and has a barrel with a garden hose connected to it, down to his camp site, he leaves the water spigot cracked open enough for the stainless steel mixing bowl to stay pretty much clean, he'll clean the bowl almost every time he goes so it's not really muddy and there are raccoons, deer, a few mice, birds, wolves, coyotes, and even a Bear 🐻 has been seen getting a drink

Absolutely loving the videos you've been putting out lately. The street draining is fantastic, but the exploration stuff and projects like this are also absolutely superb.
Props to you for rehabbing these wells. I do sewer and water work for a living, so I can easily relate to your videos. In order to make that easily maintainable moving forward, drilling a hole closer to the edge through the lid would've been the best option. And cheaper. No rotting wood, nothing for vandals to burn etc... (I see it's treated wood, that rots too...especially if there's enough moisture to grow moss). If there's a pipe laying crew that you pass by in your travels, stop by and ask what EZ-STIK is. It's a firm caulk/tar type sealant that's meant to go between the lid and the structure. It comes in a roll and you install by hand. It would definitely keep out insects that will crawl in between the shims you lifted the lid with to stop the rocking.
There's nothing that you can't do , I am constantly impressed by your knowledge on everything. Well done on another interesting video. Just love the pump .👏
Another job well done. I love that you worry about the little animals. I found two little mice dead in a 5 gallon bucket in my garage once. They fell in, couldn't get out, and starved to death. I was devastated. Now every pail has a stick in it, so if anyone falls in, they can climb out!
Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second mouse.

25 pumps - 5 gallons Equals .2 of a gallon or just under a quarter gallon per pump. 25 pumps - 20 litres Just over 3/4 of a litre per pump. I like your videos. Great work and content
If you don't intend to drink it, you could use it as a heat sink for A/C or even run it through a liquid to air heat exchanger for summer time cooling. Powered via solar panels would be very eco-friendly way to keep cool.
@@vesa7069 Why not? If it's not for drinking I can't see any reason why not. You could make a water feature out of the return water and let it soak back down into the ground so that wildlife have access to fresh water.
Just a tip for your next pump build. Galvanized Steel Pipe, like you used is a good option. The end that you cut, you need to spray that end with a sealing paint. It really does not matter what type of paint you seal it with, you just need to seal it. The Galvanizing is only "Skin Deep" on that type of steel, so you nex to seal the exposed core steel to keep it from rusting. Just so you are aware...
If you get a bowl to pump into. How about something sturdy with an edge where water can spill over so that you can maybe put a bucked below the bowl and when you pump, the water fills the bowl and then spills over in the predetermined direction to fill the bucket?
Excellent! This pump blends in with the forest, too! Always interesting to watch you build things. You weren't bothered (too much) having to pull the pump and heavy pipe out again, put extra wood on the cover, and putting it back together (making the pump higher, and easier to use with a bigger bucket) was well done! The wooden bucket looks good next to the pump, too! Your calm, detailed, explanations, and work-style, are great to watch/listen to! Thank you! 🖖
Hi Post!!! I really like how you did both these wells. I loved going to my grandmothers because she had a well with a pump. I loved getting water from her well. Hope your week is going well and I can't wait for your next video. Thank you for putting those pumps in.
I loved the red pitcher pump video and now this well pump video. How cool! These take me back to my childhood. My grandfather had both on his property. They used the pitcher pump to pump water from shallow wells and the well pump to pump water that was much deeper thus the longer stroke on the piston. My brothers and I loved to pump the water. The fun ended when my grandpa got one of those new-fangled "lectric" pumps. Boy, when that thing turned on, you'd jump a foot. It was loud!
I'm loving the well series! I'm glad to see you went the extra mile to raise it up a bit for the 5 gallon bucket to fit under it. I timed it when you filled the bucket up and you were a tick over 20 seconds. So your getting about 14-15 gallons a minute out of the hand pump if you kept going. A typical home has a 3/4 x 5/8 water meter and people get on average 15-17 gpm out of it. Depending on where you live. I would say that pump is very effective!. Well done!
Hi! Its good to see how you brought the well back to life, I live in Hungary and we just finished our well too, and it has super clear water because its 60 meters deep so we can drink from it too. I really hope I can see more well renovating content on this channel! Also I would suggest you buying foot valves so the water would always remain in the pump even for weeks without using it. At least this is how we do it here.
I would extend the spout as the wood will not last long even though it is pressure treated. Put the bucket on the ground sitting on a plastic crate or another bucket.

Maybe use composite decking for your platforms. Weather/water resistant and if you get the right kind very sturdy. It would eliminate rotting wood and hold up over time.
Look into a hose attachment for the pumps. The edge of the well cover doesn't allow for much stability/mobility once you get a 5 gallon bucket full.
