In this video I share with you the result of the inspection of my 2014 Audi R8 V8 Spyder by one of the most experienced VW Audi technicians in the country, Nathan Sammons of APS in Brackley, Northamptonshire.
APS (Automotive Performance Services) autops.co.uk was formed around 20 years ago when 3 of the staff at famous VW Audi tuners, AmD in Bicester went into partnership a few miles away in Bicester with the view that they could do it better. Today two of the original founding members, Nathan and Ed run the company and employ two experienced technicians. They are looking for 3 more technicians, 2 in the workshop and 1 for the bodyshop, find out more and apply here;

The parts required for an R8 V8 oil change are as follows;
Oil filter x1 079198405E

You can tell Nathan works like this all day long. Total PRO. 👌 Beautiful to watch
I was more interested in the Peugeot 1.9 205 GTI in the background 😂😂😂
I didn’t ask about that, it’s been there for a while so probably a full restoration
8:42 he must drag his feet if it’s taking up to 1hr half to do oil change on a GTD golf 🤣
He is doing it properly 😉
So much insight having a mechanic like that . Opens yr eyes
Yep, priceless
Great vid Andrew. Nathan certainly knows his stuff, was great to hear his tips. The correct washer jet fluid was interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it, and yes the wash fluid tip was very interesting had completely forgotten about that!
Great to see Nathan and of course Ed at APS, back in 2004 he transformed my import MK4 Golf GT TDI with remap , miltek and some rear valence action ready for gentle Nordschleife laps.
Those were the days!
It's great listening to a mechanic that knows his stuff!
It’s a lovely example but on these miles it should be. I hope you use it more than the previous owner.
Thankyou Andrew for your latest clutch of vehicles, always nice to see a variety. Finally some decent weather has arrived in Northumberland and I've been able to bilt hamber the whole underside of my car including the wheel arch covers. Pesky things 😂. Knees are sore but so satisfying once done. Thankyou again for the inspiration. 👍👍
That was a great video, good to see a professional at work.
Thanks 👍 Not many techs more professional than Nathan and the guys at APS, the environment they work in says it all.
Thank you for posting Andrew, my T-ROC is going to APS next week for a Haldex service + filter screen
My pleasure! Good choice of job and location to do said job 👍🏻
Excellent video Andrew - Nathan is so professional - great to see this level of expertise in action👍 ps and always excellent news when the car is a peach rather than a lemon!
Really informative and loving Nathan's professionalism. APS has another potential Customer as my old 1985 quatto has to find a new service centre
I’m sure Nathan, Ed and the guys would treat your quattro with the respect it deserves 👍
Great to see a knowledgeable professional like Nathan working, Andrew. I remembered when i bought my last new Audi that the salesperson told me about the correct washer fluid to use. Not sure if I could sit next to someone from the garage driving my vehicle though😉🙂
Brilliant video. Love this.
Glad you enjoyed it Kevin👍🏻
Top man Nathan. I remember him from way back when he was with AmD at Oddington then Bicester. Star in the making even then. Shame I don’t own a VW or Audi at the moment or I would use them.
We had a good chat about the good old days at Oddington
Yeah I remember when Geoff first started AmD in Thatcham then with Mike and later Nathan joined at Oddington. With Scott continuing it on in Bicester. Not sure what happened after that, it became a motorsport team?
Great video Andrew.👍
Glad you enjoyed it Philip, thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Andrew. Really interesting and informative! The car is lovely 👌🏻
Super video - thanks
I couldn't help but notice a rye smile when you said drive it on the estate here 😉
There was a road in Belgium en route to the ‘ring which was described as ‘an unofficial suspension test facility’ and much like this but concrete. It’s not in great condition but it’s perfect for garages as easy to replicate faults. There is also a sunken manhole outside Birmingham Audi, perfect for demonstrating a knackered nearside mag ride shock 😄
Is this one a keeper then Andrew? It certainly looks fabulous
Thanks! Who knows? No more being made now so might not be able to buy another cheaply if regret selling this one like I did my first one. Only negative is lack of storage space, it’s an amazing GT car aside from lack of luggage space which limits its usefulness
What a beast !!! Car obviously 😂
Can we have a garage update video Andrew, can't keep up with your fleet!
Good idea 👍
Seeing Nathan's Snap On tool set alone is a marvel!
A bit of clickbait at 0:05. Older and wiser now!
Strictly speaking click bait has to be in the title or thumbnail to trick you into clicking on it. TBH we just found it funny that genuinely only broken bit was an Italian made Lambo part & though others might enjoy that irony 😄
Great content Andrew and glad it has peach 🍑 status - lovely car 🎯🏎👍
A very knowledgeable man, if a little arrogant. Then again, find someone else who knows what he does. Still a great video Andrew.
Lovely Car and great video Andrew. If you ever sell the plate let me know as I’d be interested :)
Thanks👍I’ll try and remember if/when I sell it
It’s fair to say you have massive VW Audi knowledge and you purchased using your expertise.
However you could not cover all areas but generally you get a good idea if it’s beer cared for .
Car looks really excellent for the age .
I bet other viewers owner’s have horror stories.
Check out VAG Technic YT channel for horror stories on VW Audi engines
Buying a car is always a mixture of luck and judgement Kevin. I didn't even lift the rear lid where the oil filler is when I viewed the car which was negligent of me. My first R8 was a good car but it had been first owned by Audi UK and this is rarely a good sign, then it moved to Scotland and was exposed to some very harsh conditions which rotted out one of the oil pipes when it was half the age of this one where they are still mint at 10 years old! It wasn't a bad car and was better when I'd finished with it but doubt it would have done as well as the current one in this kind of inspection.
She's a peach!
👍👍
Really interesting video Andrew! Glad your car is a ‘peach’.
Porsche is getting all funny about the drive belts because, starting with the 911, the belt is very exposed to the elements. There is no undertray in there (some have diffusers, I know), and the belt is only a few inches off the ground. I suppose on the mid engined cars not so much, but they carry over the same engineering/servicing standards.
Makes sense. Actually the exposed engine and chassis in a 911 looks awful at 10 years old while r8 being sealed down there and mainly aluminium still looks fresh
Just goes to show where VW franchises lose out with not each one having an expert like Nathan here on call to speak to customers. Then again the ID milk float fleet they offer don't need it.
A lot of garages depend on customers knowing nothing about cars so don’t need expert technicians as who is going to distinguish a good job from a bad one? Same with car dealers and especially body shops
It's painful sometimes when you hear exasperated customers trying to get an explanation just being fobbed off with scripted nonsense.
