This chinese adaptation of 3 Body Problem is in another universe compared to the Netflix adaptation of the books. The Netflix series is not exactly badly written, but lacks the "soul" of the chinese series. You can compare the Netflix one to a somewhat mediocre season of Game of Thrones. You get all the cool effects and beautiful actors, but then what... But I must say to all, read the books-now!

I came back after watching episode 21. This is an exmaple when the trailer doesn't give away much, and so it even gave some people a low expectation at first, but the show ends up being so much better than expected. The acting, character development, and cinematography are very impressive in the final version.

This is incredible. They seem to have got so much right. So many scenes in this are just how I imagined them.

When I saw the satellite dish at red coast or the scene where she presses the red button to respond to the message, I got goosebumps because I felt like I was seeing something very much like what I was picturing in my head. I have high hopes for this series because I just love the books so much. I just finished book 2 and am about to do book 3.
But mostly Chinese people?? Not accurate. The world is made up of different races. Too many chinese make this unrealistic to be a global crisis.

I just read the books... and they are sort of over rated. I mean it is hard sci fi... but they are not especially good books. They have cool concepts and ideas. but their is no depth to the characters and the pacing is all over the place. It is very simplistic and easy to read but is presented in a very non dramatic and mechanical style of writing. Great ideas, but not told very well as a story.

@@joshrivers5191 On the one hand it's being made by the Game of Thrones (DB Weiss and David Benioff) who did a pretty solid adaptation of the books for the first several seasons (before going full pants-on-head) given the limitations of the TV medium. On the other hand, 98% of Netflix productions are trash AND it's the aforementioned GoT producers who ultimately pushed out a big ol steaming log for its final seasons. My personal faith in success score lies somewhere around 20 to 25/100 for the TV series. Not that I don't want the Netflix version to succeed - I'd love to see a great adaptation like what the Chinese-made trailer in this video appears to be.

Dope music in this trailer! Can’t wait to see this whenever it becomes available in US! An adaptation of this series is going to be hard as hell to pull off! doubt this version will be able to do it but it’ll still be fun!

I'm only just starting part two, but have a general idea of what to expect. Holy fuck!!! This is the most gripping story. I'm not sure how well it could be adapted to the screen. But if it follows the source material from beginning to end, this will be bigger that GoT, The Matrix, MCU combined. I hope the producers have a huge budget. It will certainly pay dividends if handled with care.

My favorite thing about this trailer, is the complete lack of Tom Cruise/Will Smith type characters, named "Captain Biff", who will swoop in with their shiny new fighter jets and save the day, in a Hollywood storyline suitable for a 5-year old's Disneyland adventure, and also the omission of a hot, 20-something, modelish actress who is merely there for eye candy. Can't wait!
My favorite thing about this trailer is the complete lack of woke propaganda that has been infecting all media.

Which would be a shame since Dissuasion Era needs to look like that in order to explain how this society produced what happened to it afterwards, this is not the result of a very few individuals. Cheng Xin was chosen to represent this society, it could have been someone else.

Da Shi is a relatively bright character in the text. It was written in the first and second parts. At first, we all thought he was a sloppy and bad person, but he did a lot and is worth learning. Positive character!

@@vnys No. He is the only one. I never read Chinese sifi before liu, even I am a Chinese. Liu wrote lots of short story As well: "ball lighting", "Earth Cannon", "wondering earth". Not As epic As the three Body problem, But still, very interesting. Just Not sure if they have English version.
P.S. the movie "wondering earth" is sucks. Completely different from liu's story.
The three body is considered very famous I think. I read Rick Riordan(an English author) review on it and bought it. I didn't read the book for 2 years and started reading just 2 weeks before and it is amazing! This is the first Chinese book I read.

Wow, but... damn, I envisioned Da Shi as being a little older and more disheveled. Still looks freaking amazing.
Just watched the Netflix version, there are some nice shot and interesting adaptations, I would say it’s probably better for the general audience and non-Chinese background audience to comprehend. But the fast paced storyline and many adaptations which change some important elements of the original series, it’s a big NO for me.
The actors in the Netflix version haven't even read the book, compared to the actors in the Chinese version who have read the original book so they may have a better understanding of the characters

while entertaining NETFLIX version is more like Sci-Fantasy show compared to this version that is a proper SciFi show and I dare say suspense horror show with atmosphere almost like from some Stephen King novel and/or show based on his books.

Reading the trilogy is a must though tough if you are not informed on science fields like physics and astronomy. But it is astonishing. You will not be able to stop! Then the series will be a piece of cake

Chances are if you watched the trailer you have no idea what this movie is really about or what is going on. I'm most of the way thru the first book. I knew who each of the characters were from the little clips and I know what was going on in pretty much every scene, so it seems like they are keeping somewhat close to the books. I'm enjoying the books. Don't know how the story will translate to the screen.

I'm a native Chinese speaker, I have read some of the English translations, and I must recommend reading the entire trilogy. Some people said they don't like the 3rd book because Liu Cixin kind of overextended himself, but I'd say all 3 books are amazing, with the 2nd being the best. However, I think the English version is honestly bad compared to the Chinese original. So many subtle things, and the emotional weight of the books are completely different after the translation.

I haven't read the books but my friends were absolutely thrilled so I am glad this series has arrived because the book thickness scared me. I like my SF televised, pardon my French. I am curious how the Netflix version will compare to this Chinese one. Some reflections:
1. Some sociologists say that there will be a global government in 150 years. I concurr: there is already a global internet geekness fond of physics and cosmology.
2. China and/or Asia is going to take over the dominion of the US. We need some Confucian antidote to the popcorn and chewing gum of Hollywood. This Chinese version is intellectualy comparable to the best of HBO's Westworld.
3. It's a global watch: so everybody is getting acquainted to a different style of tv. It's slow and it's cheaper but it's not unfamiliar.
Conclusion: we are coming together, global peace is a matter of time. Let the aliens arrive: all your base are belong to us. 👾

It's based on the same Chinese novel. This is the Chinese adaptation that was released in January 2023. This is way more faithful to the book too.
This looks much better than the Netflix version.

Just finished Three Body Problem and started Dark Forest. Exquisitely written books and I can't wait to see TBP on the screen. However, there is one issue I can't ignore. If that red button is what I think it is. It's the wrong shape. 😆

Dark forest is awesome...the beginning is a little dry when it gets into Luo's imagination but the ending is amazing and the build up is worth it (like the first book)

@@liltian9019 The two first books were very interesting but I could not exactly feel what those characters felt. Third book made me feel that in my bones, just like Luo Ji felt in the lake, after he understood the truth about this universe and humanity.
This is such a great opportunity for China to show how their enterteinmeint industry has developed, and punch the Netflix one in the face. If they are faithful to the material, it will no doubt be vastly superior.

Id like to watch this version just to see how they handle the significance of the cultural revolution. This is something very important for the main character in the 1st book, but it tends to be glossed over when people talk about the book. I was surprised to see the overt criticism of the senseless violence in a book released in chine.
The cultural revolution being a mistake is the most popular opinion in China. Usually people say Mao did 70% right, 30% wrong
What you may not know is that today’s Chinese Communist regime is actually the coup faction that ended the Cultural Revolution. Xi’s father was also persecuted during that period, so yes, criticizing the Cultural Revolution from the moment it ended is politically correct in China.
The one problem I have with the trailer is the sound effects are louder than the conversations.
It will be interesting to compare this adaptation with netflix version when it will be released. (Even better as a reader of the books!)

@@DonatoColangelo The story is the same, but the descriptions are in a different order. The Western version is in the order of Liu Cixin's serialization in Science Fiction World magazine, while the Chinese single-volume version has the order of Ye Wenjie's stories adjusted for story continuity.
I only heard very little about this story but literally takes places across centuries. This looks like something that happened in about 4 days.

I'm almost halfway through book one Audiobook. I don't think I'll be sleeping much until I'm done with all three books. I normally don't like audiobook narrators, but this one is very pleasant to listen to.

i watched the first few eps of this .. I actually came here trying to find any kind of snippets / trailer for the unfinished / unreleased 2015/ 2016 movie ... having finished watching the NG show now, I was surprised at some of the things also in this TV adaptation (like the Judgement Day's fate) ... I have tried reading the books / even tried the audio book version ... can't make it through the first book ...
