Thanks! Bernard Purdie plays nice and relaxed. Steely Dan with Dennis Chambers did this tune justice as well. Bernard gets deep by singing and almost dancing while drumming.
A special drummer. Of course you'll be able to hear all the subtleties and mastery going on with the drums much better than me, but they sure sound excellent to my ears!

I really wish this style of big brass rock band made a come back. Steely Dan, Chicago, Supertramp and all the rest had a beautiful thing going that's remained timeless since.

As the years go by this songs grows in my appreciation. So good. Any song with Feldman on Vibraphone is gold.
Like you say the groove in this one is fabulous. The chorus about the sirens pleased us very square teenage nerds, because we knew what he was talking about, and we assumed none of our classmates did.
You really have to remind yourself that this was 1977! Yes, the Steely Dan groove is so compelling! The groove is different
but even better in the next track:- "I Got The News". Whatever our personal preferences, Steely Dan just do not miss. 👍
My body literally jerks around to those infectious beats. I think The News is the last track I need to hear to complete this superb album!!

Our host correctly conveyed the lyrical inspiration. The music is sublime(to understate), but, sublime is a normal day for Steely Dan. My favorite from Aja is " Aja ", but, on some days, " Home At Last " wins the honor. Jazz-rock as good as it gets. Poetic and classy. The subtlety makes the song work, as our host noted, both lyrics and music.

So blessed to have an older brother who had a killer quad stereo system back in the seventies, especially AJA, cranked up with all those nuances, and unique arrangements for my young ears.
Great that you heard this stuff the right way when it was new! I never stopped to think that many probably had to have their first listens on subpar quality audio/radios. I'm certainly blessed to discover all these tunes with good headphones, high quality/remastered audio, etc... Thanks for tuning in!
