• cEDH Decks in Japan ar... -~-
Today I'm taking a look at a big cEDH tournament you probably haven't heard of. God of Commander 6 was a 122-player tournament that took place in Japan, and I'll be breaking down the top 8 decks at that event. Japan has a VERY different looking meta than what you might be used to, so even popular Commanders can have some radical cards you won't expect. Cards like Dragonstorm, Emrakul, Dromoka, Sneak Attack, Torsten, Monster's Manual, and Frenzied Goblin (still not sure about that one) all show up at this large tournament. And the Commander's running these wild cards are Tivit, Kenrith, Rowan, Thada Adel, K'rrik, Tymna/Rograkh, Derevi, and Tymna/Kraum.

What do you think of these decks? Any cool tech you want to implement? Let me know down below!
Really liked that active volcano card never even heard about it till now can do some work taking care of any turn 1 Rhystic/Mystic plays or just time walking the blue farm player 🤣
The more and more I use "stifle" effects, the happier I am with them and seeing other decks be successful with them makes me think they are slept on at least a little bit
@thelongboardguru_i.t.6096 for sure, especially in decks that get through lots of cards like Talion they seem like very real options.
I’ve been playing Tivit with steal enchantment and copy artifact and those two cards can really swing the game in your favor. Tymna kraum is still king of cedh
def some 7 point highlander vibes going on, active volcano and flash flood(blue counterpart) are sideboard cards in izzet 7ph.
I have a Japanese friend that plays Edric at these events. From what he told me, the meta their tends to be more midrange strategies so players use more over the top strategies
Great to see someone covering cEDH tournaments outside of the United States.
More of that coming soon!
There will be a big event in Portugal next week where the best spanish and portuguese(and more People from all around europe) will play.
Probably the biggest in Europe. Roughly 130 players.
so how did it go?
Rowan and Derevi lists are sick. Dragonstorm in cEDH what a vibe.
hell yeah, I really want to play that Rowan list.
@@LemorasCards Dragonstorm sees some play in Raggadragga (cEDH fringe) lists. Rather than reduce costs, those lists just sneeze infinite mana.
I built it paper and it is a lot of fun. The goblin is the one card I am debating replacing with Treasonous Ogre. It hasn't done me anything in any matches so far.
@mikhailtessier1 not sure if you copied the list as is or if it got fixed, but it's supposed to be the name sticker goblin and not that goblin that does nothing haha.
I talked with a japanese cedh person and he told me that emrakul is good but the real reason is to somehow abuse loops with infinite turns.
And yeah, decks looks a bit "strange" but in fact they are dedicated players and don't are so obsessed about terms such "viability" as we tend to be.
I really like to see "around the world" techs. I wish cedh had a world champ lol
I would LOVE more international competition to see what does well in a meta made up of players from all over.
Grapeshot and emergence zone is a counter to a lot of infinite combos out there.
I know someone that does it, but their deck also has deterministic loops for it as well
It can be looped with led and wheel to build up storm during underworld breach
@@andreazampollo6726 I know. I was just giving another option for grapeshot
Now this would be a series I'll stand behind ❤ awesome vid
Look forward to more!
I think the grape shot for the second place deck is a back up for underworld breach lions eye diamond wheel of fortune just in case your bow masters gets exiled
I belive grinding station, underworld breach and a mana Crypt is deterministic with grapeshot....or maybe it isn't deterministic because I don't know how you would guarantee enough damage
There is an error in Rowan's list.
The adopted name is ____Goblin, not Frenzied Goblin.
The mystery is solved! I figured there might be a mistake causing this.
HAAAAAAAA. That makes a lot more sense.
How does ____Goblin work? From what I've been reading, you carry around a sticker sheet?!
@@karmakillz4051you select 10 sticker sheets for your deck to use and randomly pick 3 sheets you get access to at the start of the game
Japan has some of the most innovative deck lists period. They just brew some crazy cold stuff
The 0 Land Esika God of the Tree list that finished 9th is pretty spicy too !
Such a wild tournament.
Great stuff. Its cool to see some of the more wild lists out there. I like the idea that you still have the option of running off the beaten track cards and still doing well. If you know your list and pilot well thats what matters most imo.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it's always really cool to take a look at the wild stuff people can put together and still have success with.
@@LemorasCards it definitely makes the meta seem less like an elite 'club' if that makes sense. I look forward to seeing more breakdowns like this! I'm in New Zealand, it'd be cool to see if there's any local tournaments from NZ/AUS that have any spice.
Ghostly Pilferer is slept on honestly. Out drew a rhystic in a game when opp had a Professional Face Breaker. Also with all the partners around, drawing a card off commanders is choice.
There was definitely a reason the card was such a big staple for so long.
I always forget it has that clause. I always thought it was just _inspired_ - you may pay {2} if you do draw a card.
and
discard a card: unblockable ueot
Players Derevi and Kenrith belong to a certain cEDH geek community in Japan, and they prefer countermagic, which takes two to three hours per game.
To counter countermagic, they have chosen to use activated abilities such as Monster Manual and Sneek Attack to bring out creatures.
I really like Japans meta, their Edric lists are still pretty relevant, going big stompies and token production instead of just unblockables to enable draw and extra turns. Spicyyyy
Emrakul probably there for Wishclaw shenanigans
Man that Rowan list totally gave me the tingles xD
the Derevi deck really spoke to me
and the Kenrith deck was the first Kenrith deck that I see was actually interesting
They're so cool!
That Kenrith list 😍😍
you got my sub. youre very knowledge in cedh format
Thank you!
Great video thank you
Thank you!
you have the wrong link for the deck list at the moment
crazy techs! interesting stuff all around
Fixed!
Never thought of rowan plus dragonstorm... thats a fun list
Very cool to see deck lists that aren't exactly "standard". Great idea!! Would love to see more of this type of MTG content.
Thank you! There's definitely more on the way.
I think Preston is really strong in Derevi, even stronger then Felidar Guardian in most cases. If you leave the token alive and let Derevi die to the legend rule you can keep activating Derevi and untapping two permanents instead. There are very few mana rocks that can generate the colors needed to activate Derevi's ability (All I can think of atm is that one lotus that taps for all 5 mana). It's a lot more consistent to have two mana rocks/dorks that together generate the needed mana. Really cool combo idea.
Dragonstorm Rowan is definitely something i just out into Moxfield to test out myself.
I did switch that Goblin out for blood celebrant though. Cause i couldnt ever figure out a reason for it besides the memes.
With the rowan deck. It seems like main win con is looping terror of the peaks with SIH and sacrifice under breach. No grinding station, or dualcaster/twinflame feels weird. But im actually gonna run it as is (besides goblin change) for a few games to see if if can bring in a win.
Also only 3 fetchable lands in deck is a strange choice.
It's a super cool one, I could definitely see giving it a few adjustments but yeah there's some value in trying it as is just to see what's going on with it.
That was an error in the deck registration, which actually used 《______ Goblin》.
@Ak1kqze that makes a ton of sense. It's a fun deck to play. Nobody expects dragonstorm, and it's hard to counter so it often effectively wins right there.
This is the first time I’ve read the card Thada Adel, Aquisitor, I’ve heard the name before but never looked at the card. Kinda expensive to get a non-damaged one in paper!
I have one for my Kaseto, Orochi Archmage deck. bought it for like €4 I believe and it's in pretty good condition. but that was a while ago so
Their Legacy is spicy, too. Very fun to play against these guys.
I bet!
I don't give a damn about cEDH really, but putting Emiel in the thumbnail is enough to make me watch the segment with Emiel. Top 5 card in the game for me
Emiel is a great card in the 99 of decks and also a super fun cEDH commander that sees some play. The combos and flexibility it gets is actually pretty nuts.
If you can loop emrakul you can deck you opponents. Put like 1000 triggers on each opponent in order and you take 999 of their turns before they get one. Unless im mistaken on how the card reads
Interested to know what the cEDH scene is like in Brazil and the decklists they’re using there
Way more interesting lists than US. Approved 100%
The deterministic Storm line for grapeshot that you were looking for casting LED with Breach and Grinding station.
That should get you most of the way there, though at a point you need to net cards in graveyard which grinding station won't do since it just goes neutral
Brazil mentioned!
We just had Pirate Chest II this entire weekend. It's the biggest cEDH tournament in Europe, and it happens in Lisbon if you wanna check it out and do a video about it.
I tried recording a video for it twice and had tech issues both times! I may be able to get around to it next week but yeah I was really looking forward to getting something on it out this week.
@@LemorasCards I won one of the qualifiers for it with my Kodama Thrasios brew list a few months ago, but the main event was completely different. Everyone was in grinding mode, waiting with Emergence Zone, Borne Upon a Wind and Thrasios. Took home four draws and two losses, the games went to overtime most of the time and the politicking was the most intense I had in my life, to the point that in the second day my voice was breaking. Nevertheless, it was the highest quality and most difficult tournament I have ever been, and it really shows how cEDH is growing and maturing fast in Europe. Very proud of what we have built here.
Mono U Deck in cEDH Top 8 - what a time to be alive
Tymna rog deck has grinding station mox underworld breach combo for grape shot right ???
i'm not into cEDH but why don't use Elesh Norn Mother of the Machines in Derevi? not Even Panharmonicon?
Not sure! Elesh Norn does see a little bit of cEDH play, often just being too expensive for what is still a very powerful effect, but that seems like a deck that could use it well.
This weekend (November 4th) there will be a cedh event in Portugal with 128 players organized by the cedh league portugal. If you want to make a video about this event, it would be great and it would help raise awareness of this organization. will be the biggest cedh event in europe in 2023 @LemorasCards
Eric and I are already looking forward to covering it!
Always thought Thada would be great in a cedh setting cool to see
She showed up in my most recent video too! Seems like she's poppin off right now.
If your looking for budget - grab ghostly pilferer. It feels like a mystic remora/rhystic study early on in the game. It's like a quarter ...
How is there no isochron scepter combo in thada adel? Draw your deck after you steal the one ring
That is a little surprising.
I noticed derevi was the only list in white that was playing drannith. Interesting to see it excluded from a lot of lists.
That's a really notable exclusion in some of these decks I didn't notice at all, that's super interesting!
how does the rowan list wins ? and what line does it go with the saw in 1/2 ?
You play Hoarding broodlord getting saw in half from its etb. Cast saw in half targeting hoarding broodlord. Both of those etb get 2 cards. One being Peer into the abyss and other being sacrifice. Cast sacrifice targeting Hoarding broodlord copy and use that mana to play Peer into the abyss. From there it should be pretty trivial to win with all the cards you’ve drawn
Note: once hoarding broodlord is in play it will require 2 additional mana to cast saw in half since the last line of text allows you to convoke for the cards you searched for
Underworld Breach + Lion's eye diamond + Wheel of Fortune does the job for casting Grapeshot with enough pings
City of Solitude isn't "better" than Grand Abolisher, it's actually much worse. I know what you were trying to say though. Grand Abolisher allows your opponents to interact with other opponents during another player's turn. I've won quite a few games where an opponent had City of Solitude in play because I knew I was 100% safe to go for it on my turn.
Yeah, not a better card on average, but if you're going to go for a win, it's the better card to get to hide behind.
The Japanese are cooking 🧑🍳
Hell yeah!
probably a dumb question, but are cedh tournaments like this played in 1v1 games or typical 4 person pods?
Four player pods. This one was structured to be Swiss rounds of four player pods, then a cut to top 12. The 3 players who win those pods then play in a game with the winner of the previous tournament.
interesting. thanks a lot for explaining!@@LemorasCards
Did this tournament allow proxies? Cause if so I really want to compete in the next one.
To my knowledge, they don't unfortunately. I think these events are at Hareruya in Tokyo where I think all of their events are sanctioned/no proxies.
@@LemorasCards ahhh okay I did hear about this one. I'm out in Kyoto and I'm waiting for ours in Osaka lol
love the japanese meta it reminds me of yugioh. They always got something innovative/different compared to usa meta.
Im guessing the popularity of lim duls is because it gets around opp agent
LED+ breach + wheel = grape shot storm counter
Don't know the banlist for Japan cEDH but Emrakul is banned...
That's the 15 mana Emrakul that you're thinking of! The ban list is the same.
These just look like high power casual decks with Mox Diamond added in lol. Pretty much reminds me of my old school meta before we'd even heard of cedh.
No Necropotence in that Rowan list is criminal.
Please note that not everyone is familiar with most of the cards and terms used... I think your video is to complicated for beginners...
Kinda disappointing, was expecting spicy commanders , same ol shit
While there are some interesting ones here, I think this shows that the power level of Commanders is pretty well defined and recognizable in other metas, and like I would expect, that innovation in the scene will mostly be around cards in the 99. The rest of the decks in top 12 included Esika and the Ur-Dragon if those are more to your taste.
