  • It's been a long wish of mine to spend more time drawing and making prints. The past month I did my best to make this wish come true and these are the first results.
    Bookbinding leaves behind much paper waste and I've meticulously tried to save each scrap to use for my handmade paper.
    Today I'm combining my two favorite pastimes, aside from bookbinding and made some nice paper to print on.
    The print is a limited edition of 50 and available for sale here: www.etsy.com/l...
    You can find all my other pieces of work in my shop here: www.etsy.com/s...
    I've also opened commissions for the following holiday season and the months ahead. Check out my custom order form on my website here: www.iostopan.c...

And wow that cardboard shelving you did with the paper is great, i wish i would have known about this channel back in college, something like that would have freed up a lot of time and strain from printing.

    Nice! You have so many great ideas here! I have tried lino printing on my university and I liked that technique a lot, but would never be able to afford a proper printing press, I was afraid that once I graduated, I wouldn't be able to continue printing! But a bookbinding press is far more affordable, thank you for sharing your process!

    Meraviglia! I loved this video from start to finish. How you show the whole process, from making the paper to the final print is so inspiring! Could you please tell us more about the paper making process? How did you get it out of the mould? That is the only bit I don't have clear. Can you use any type of paper, even the one with ink on it? I was wondering if I could use shredded documents.

    • @Stopan
      @Stopan  Před 2 lety

      Hello and thank you for the appreciation! I'm not sure if I'm qualified enough to say, as I'm really self taught about all this and just went along with gut feeling. You basically flip the mold onto a wet cloth and lay another wet cloth on top of it. When you get a nice bulk of this, you squeeze the water out and hang everything to dry.
      I'm not sure about all types of paper. I tried printed paper but some letters were visible after the blending. Also craft/brown packaging paper smells awful when wet and blended, wouldn't recommend at all. Do search around for some tutorials, that's what I did. I'm sure you'll find all sorts of helpful info. All the best!

    So cool! I print a lot, and this is a way to up-cycle the paper instead of tossing it. The prints are beautiful. I love the color and texture. I've never seen a linoleum (?) block in that color. Did you tone the block yourself? And if not, what brand is it?

    Thank you for this, a few questions about your process: I've recently gotteninto lino printing and hand made paper in the past so figured this would be a great marriage. However, upon trying to print lino onto the handmade paper, the ink doesnt want to fully "stick" into the paper itself. Watching your video I use the exact same process with just water, pulp, and mould/deckle. I've tried several external sizing additives like starch, gelatin, etc to no success, which is leading me to believe that its because i'm using water-based printing ink (Speedball). Is the ink you use oilbased/water soluble or water based and do you use any binder to your pulp mix? Thanks a bunch.

    You make such epic things people don't need to tell you, but you get it lol.
    I hope to buy something from you, send you some $ for materials.
    I had messaged you about a dip pen (in a way) and you said it would be difficult but almost impossible. I know it's basically impossible and won't work BUT, I'm covering an American wooden skewer ( like kababs) in wax so I can carve a line down the center connecting a hole above it. I understand that many pens have ways to hold ink + not absorb it, which is why I'm thinking wax . ... I'm just broke and want a half wood " pen' lol.... I have feathers for quills but they need cleaning??? I'm still learning about this subject

      Sometimes I prefer the old press. The new little one is very uncomfortable, regardless if its quicker. My hands and back usually hurt a lot after using it. It's okay for a few prints but if you're making 100 or more, it really takes a tool on the body. The screw press is slow but it makes a better print and you don't feel 90 years old after 100 prints.
