In my 70 years, this was simultaneously the mildest hurricane ever, and (according to the electric company) did the most damage to the electrical system in history. Even cable TV, Internet, and Ma Bell were down. There is only six inches of soil on top of thick clay; all the tree roots go sideways - not down. They just can't take strong winds. If you drive down the streets, about every third block has a tree pushed over, not broken, with intact SHALLOW roots showing. They take the power-lines with them.
That said, WE KNOW THIS, and I do not understand the scatter-shot system of who keeps power, and who gets it back first. Drive along FM 1960 near Eldridge, or Hwy 249 near Spring-Cypress Road (to name just two). One corner, or one side of a street will have power, but not the others. Our across-the-street neighbors in our sub-division always get power two days before we do!

Centerpoint in the last 10 to 15 20 years has neglected our grid system and they have let it go to hell. Centerpoint is just another money hungry company that wants a bunch of money but they don’t do anything to keep up the grid. That’s why we lose power all the time the CEO of Centerpoint needs to be fired.

The reason the trees roots are like that is because they were berlapped. It prevents trees from developing a proper taproot, and they become extremely sceptible to falling over.

After 6.7 BILLION in profits they failed to improve the infrastructure, they even failed to do basic maintenance such as replace old poles, transformers and other basic items, tree trimming and more. Now they are applying for federal dollars to do necessary upgrades, despite record profits and failing to due their job. They also failed to prepare properly for a Cat 1 (with possibility to become Cat 2) that they new was coming all week. They should be prepared for a major hurricane, obviously they weren’t. Thankfully I’ve never lived where the power companies weren’t held accountable for basic maintenance. The burden is on Central Point.

It should be noted that these LLC are incorporated out of Delaware, unverified; these companies my be foreign entities.

Why has the Texas governor not directed the state's Attorney General to investigate the above entities?

Regulations should be changed. Out of state, trees are cut away from electricity lines and poles. It’s a law. Everyone follows.. homes businesses..
When I moved here I was surprised how trees were just growing around power lines..

Let the Utility company try to trim or cut trees back on someone's property and see what happens, but then when the trees go down, the electric company is to be blames for not doing tree maintenance.

Of course, no one wants to be without power in our hot humid summers, but this is nothing new.
I was out of power for eleven days after Hurricane Alicia and eight days after Ike.
Having driven around a good bit it's pretty obvious a huge factor is tree issues.
And throw in blown transformers and fuse links it's amazing any of us have power.
    Just sayin.

A lawsuit needs to happen because this is the craziest thing I have ever seen and experienced being here and we have been without power for 4 days feels like 4 years. And I'm from the Caribbean and we have a better planning system than this (depending on which island). This is wild and for them to say by Sunday they will have 80% of customers back online is even Wilder. The only way to get them to budge is if everyone sues them. One massive lawsuit by the 2 nearly 3 millions that have been without power, including the ones who have died by trees, heat and drowning. Seems to be the way of how America or Texas work, not forgetting guns seems to be a big talk here more than common sense.
