    I think this film is about children growing up. The garden is their world of thoughts which the adults not understand. Adults and older children expect that younger children change their behave. But there is some times not enough explanation why. So, some children try to keep it as it is.

    Cast were excellent, especially being so young - they really sell it. For some reason the world reminds me of the Russian movie "Stalker" by Tarkovsky (1979) ... it just feels, to me, like the outside is a place of fractured realities... dangers real and imagined. I loved the message.
    The following might be considered a spoiler:
    The world is not a safe place - yet must let our children navigate it. Just as children must ultimately reject the safe fortress and wisdom of their parents ... we see a childs rejection of transhumanism and an eternal, safe but necessarily 'lesser' life - in favour of the courage and danger demanded of childhood. Death may surely await those who cross over the threshold into the unknown - but, so does any chance of a meaningful life.
    And this is a metaphor. As science slowly guides us towards safety and potentially eternal life... it steals something from us.
    Here, we see the transhuman sanctuary as a safe yet joyless place, devoid of any true meaning or experience. The safe immortal and soulless inhabitants, yearn to see the joyful dance of life... a dance that only a naive and mortal child can perform. And so it is that they have come to live through her... they crave that which they have lost... they lock her up to protect her... just as an adult tries to protect their child from the harsh dangers of reality.
    ... but the dance of life cannot be performed behind safe walls, nor can it be danced without danger.
    So, as all children must, and filled with youthful optimism and naivity, she rejects safety and dances across the threshold.
    How many of us would reject safe transhuman immortality, for a meaningful life truly lived?
    In it's title, the story also seems to hint at "the fall" ... man's exit from the garden of Eden. His drive to reject the safety of eternal yet sheltered life, in favour of the unknown and it's dangers. I do not know if this is deliberate, but the biblical mythology reflects quite nicely against this futuristic 'garden' of safety and immortality - lending it a deeper texture.
    Whichever way you look at it, we see here a statement on the human condition. What it truly means to be alive.
    Just my take, of course. The story is open to many interpretations... this is just the one I prefer.

    • @BudhagRizzo
      @BudhagRizzo Před 6 lety

      It's a story of nonconformity, which is what THX-1138 is about as well. I think the similarities end there, however. This story is a little more surreal , almost fairytale-like. THX was more robotic; a reflection of how society has become robotic; that we've all become mere worker drones. That's not saying that I didn't like this short film, because I did. It was well done.

    The film hinges on the main girl and she performs amazingly well. The trouble is it's too large a concept squashed into a 12 minute time frame and it doesn't work. Sometimes you have to hold onto or shelve a good project however close to your bib until you get the investment needed to make the film you envisioned. The potential for a longer movie in future using this idea as a dystopian world is great but for now 5/10

    All of the people, including the Indian girl, were definitely altered in some way or another. I could clearly see that in their 'eyes' and in the way the lead adult spoke. They behaved much too eerily, much too stiff, as though the life was drained from them. I would surmise the lead girl's blood as being a possible catalyst in whatever special way for the Indian girl to attain freedom from the boundary she was placed inside of. Freedom is what most people want until inundated with propaganda and lulled to sleep with commonality and complacency or with whatever methods of extreme coercion to be used by the promising powers that be, whichever will work first and foremost. Communism/totalitarianism is the greatest example of this and yet people take history's screaming messages for granted. Yet another "millionth" reminder in the form of a sci fi short.

    The audio quality on this film was abysmal. I had my volume all the way up and couldn't hear much of anything. Luckily it was predictable enough that I knew the end by the second minute. The acting of the children was great. The adults were not.
