  • About a month ago an old friend of my fiance came and told me my daughter might not be mine (1yr). She told me Sarah (fiance, fake name) confessed to her shortly after finding out she was pregnant that it might not be mine because at the time she had been sleeping with one other guy. Now that we are going to get married soon, she just couldn't keep this to herself and felt the need to tell me.
    Story 1:
[Update] I (M24) found out my daughter isn't mine and I'm soon to wed my Fiance (25F)
    Story 2:
Yesterday, my(33m) wife's (34f) best friend (female) contacted me and told me that her husband and my wife were having an affair and my 3yo daughter is actually his daughter.
    Story 3:
I [30F] just found out my husband [32M] might be the father of my best friend’s [34F] child [4F]. What the hell do I do now?

Your girlfriend cheated probably for years, got pregnant by another man, led you to believe the child is yours.

Go ahead, marry her, you will make a great dad for other men's children because her cheating will not stop.

In my state in the US if you are over 35 they advise you to get genetic testing while pregnant. If you are younger you have to request it. Unfortunately you have to pay for it. It’s not covered by health insurance. DNA testing should be done on every child. Unfortunately if you request it, you have to pay for it. Even the at home test here are 40-60 to buy them and another 180 for results. Which in the long run saves a life time of money and heart ache.

He kicked out his cheating wife and kept the daughter. Now it was his ex who was trying to claim she wasn't his to get custody. Judge told her that the child was conceived during their marriage. If that would have been enough to have him pay support then it's good enough for him to keep custody. I was _SO_ afraid he would go through with the marriage due to the fact that he seemed to be harping on the fact that his wedding was only "2 weeks away" and how he kept mentioning that family and friends were driving out. I thought he was going to be one of "those guys" who insists his partner is a ''good, kind soul who would never hurt a fly" (despite her OBVIOUS lies and infidelity). Glad OP decided to halt the wedding and separate. She knows exactly who the father is, but wanted to pass the child off as his because he is likely the most financially stable and responsible of the guys she slept with. And shouts out to that friend who revealed the truth to him. That friend saved him a LOT of grief in the future and I hope he takes that friend out for a nice lunch/dinner or gets that friend a spa day or something.
And _shame_ on those commenters trying to shame and manipulate OP into raising this kid. I hate commenters who, instead of calling out the cheating, manipulative, lying partner, instead chose to ATTACK OP for deciding to part ways and not be a part of the child's life. While I agree that the child is innocent, so is OP. And OP owes NOTHING to that baby. It's not fair to accuse him of "being able to turn off his love like a light switch" when he discovered the baby wasn't his. Why not put that blame towards the cheating mom? Why 8s it the mothers are never held accountable in these situations? OP didn't let that baby down...the mother did.

@@cellus523 Having sex and creating a child is already voluntary. Paternity testing has become relatively cheap, so two ways: if father is found or is already present and involved, he's already sharing the bill. Same with those who irresponsibly have sex with multiple men and wind up pregnant, it's a consequence of decisions one makes. It also would give men the chance to be apart of their children's lives and alleviate cost between two parents. Bigger picture, in the long term it would yield better results for both fathers and children vs a one time cost and may help curb some people making irresponsible decisions.

What about the deadbeats who bolt because "women can choose, why can't I", what if there not in this database then what and we all know atleast 2 dudes who've bolted until reality either hit them or they managed to fuck off to Montana and hide out until that kid thing died down and she stops calling. I know my example is really specific but its not important. My point is this system would lose support quickly because its one of those causes that is great in principal but punishing in practice, like honesty or exclusive dating.
