My 24hp briggs has been sputtering after snow blowing a while. I’ve adjusted the valves, which I’ll do again but your video helped me to start looking at a carb kit. Again, thank you

Thanks for the tutorial! Lots of work went into that. However it still sounds lean. I can hear it. Should flush the fuel tank and lines. Also replace the fuel filter.

@@semajd5995 Crack or a hole? If it's a crack, clean it, then use sandpaper. Degrease it. Then apply silicone to the crack. I’ve done this to my own personal mower and it’s running, with no leaks.

On my D140, when thw PTO is engaged its chugging, slow and when I drive up my septic field its stops, I release the gas and it creeps up slowly on its own. I also notice a smell of gas when driving. When the PTO isnt engaged, I do not experience any problems.

Pretty hard one to fix with looking it first hand. I’d sharpened the blades. Change the spark plugs. Check the gas filter for leaks.

You have been very informative. I am working on my mother in laws D140, it has been sitting for a couple of years since her husband passed. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and carburetor because all were very gummed up. The mover has a very hard time starting, and after I do get it running with the help of starting fluid, it surges while idling, full throttle is ok and after it has been running for quite some time.....if I throttle it to the choke mode, it doesn't kill the engine. I know that choking the engine isn't what I am supposed to do after it has been running, it was an accident but I noticed that it did not kill it, and in my experience when a warm engine is choked it normally dies. I am thinking that the choke isn't working on it which is why it is having a hard time starting. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    • @WeekendHobbyMechanic

My own personal mower is hard starting also because my compression in my cylinders are low, 120psi. They should be 150. On some (high compression models) they should read 185-195).
Put the choke on and push the choke lever to make sure the choke is fully close. Check the valves, intake (0.003-0.005), exhaust (.005-007”).
Make sure you have a good spark at the plugs.

They didn't design the choke properly on these models, but no one is explaining how to fix it permanently 😢

So when i put my intake on i accidentally shorted the fuel selanoid power wire. When i fixed it it now i get no power to the selonoid and the werid part is after i jumped the selanoid and went and mowed with it the rio reverse button dosent work and it just dies when i put it into reverse. How are the fuel selanoid and rio button related? I replaced keyswitch, relay, and the fuse was not blown.

    • @WeekendHobbyMechanic
      @WeekendHobbyMechanic  Před 4 měsíci

Your “RIO Latch Relay” could be bad. (Tap on the relay, it’s on the right side of the battery tray or just below it.
Did you bypass the RIO switch?

@@Jesse-pz5fe I had the same problem on a D160. Follow the Wire from the Solenoid and see if it goes to the Hour meter.
If it does, Look to see if there's another purple wire, check if it has 12v with the key in the Starter Position. Just add a jumper wire to both wires.

Is the motor loose in the tractor? Not grounded properly. Check the key on the flywheel (Take the wire off the spark plugs and try to turn it over.)
I’d try to boost it with a car battery directly to the starter (bypassing the solenoid). Might be a weak starter.

Agree. That ethanol ate my gas cap up and it broke off down inside the tank. I had to siphon it out and vac the tank and also back blow the fuel line with air compressor. The non ethanol 92 octane around here is about $5.50 a gallon, but well worth it. Even 2 stroke mix weed eater runs and starts better.

If the Motor is running good you don't touch the Carburetor. Take the bottom bowl off the carb and look inside. It might be dirty. (Lots of videos on CZcams on this).
It might be getting too much fuel, pinch the fuel line to stop the fuel to see if the motor smooths out.
