If Ford had flipped the 12v battery around, you could jump it easier, since any place on the frame would do as a ground, and the +(red) terminal would be easier to get to with a jumper cable or 12v battery charger, without have to pry that panel up. Otherwise it is a good clean design and far superior to the VW, by not wasting that highly useful storage space under the hood. 👍🏼

Great video, Sandy. Very revealing. I've come to a totally different conclusion. Tesla has nothing to worry about.
    1. No way to open the frunk without opening the driver's door.
    2. Frunk isn't secure from parking lot attendants.
    3. The potentially large size of the frunk is nullified with those attached dividers. I'd toss them out.
    4. Will water get into the frunk through that drain hole when driving through puddles?
    5. Ford made it overly hard to access the battery and fluid reservoirs with those aggressive fasteners.
    6. Broken fasteners will keep Ford dealerships happy fixing rattles.

Any panels covering occasional access items like fluid reservoirs and batteries should be fastened with with screws or 1/4 turn clips that don't break. The plastic clips on this one may save Ford a minute of assembly time and a few cents per vehicle but is a PITA for the dealer or owner. Just shows where the manufacturers' head is at.

@@XKS99 good design can be subjective. Tesla has some good design ideas but is also lacking in some areas such as not ha big a screen in front of the driver. All other EVs do this as most people prefer that. Tesla’s rear bumper was badly designed since water and sand/dirt got caught and ripped the bumper off, or the case of water flowing into the trunk when it was open and raining since water ran straight into it. So all companies make mistakes.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the hood of a car gets really warm outdoors. I put a cooler in the frunk of my Tesla by Tesmanian that fits it perfectly and falls juuuust short of a Yeti in terms of performance. I think the beer thing is a really cool idea, but I don't think it really works well in practice because it's not insulated. Just because the front of the car doesn't produce heat doesn't mean it doesn't get hot. Just ask all the dogs and babies we're not allowed to keep in cars without ventilating the windows when it's sunny.

I don't think there is any waisted space in the id.4, the distance between the windshield and the front of the car is just one frunk length shorter than the mustang Mach-e. They made the hood shorter and increased the size of the cabin and trunk by doing so. What Tesla and Ford do they essentially divide the storage space of the car into 2 parts, while you can just move the cabin forward eliminate the frunk and have all of the storage in the trunk area where its more convenient to use

Drilling a hole in the frunk is certainly a technological breakthrough. Amazing use of a hole, those Ford guys are mighty sharp, what will they think of next! Maybe they should work on snap fasteners that don't fail on the first use. The next generation of sophistication in cold drink management is to use a cooler in the frunk like a Tesla because the ice will last all day and you can carry the entire contents easily to a convenient spot. Your friends won't make fun of your peeing car.
