Adult Topic- Emerging from the Pandemic

Adults with PKU can face challenges and comorbidities related to mental health, especially anxiety and depression. In the literature, higher phenylalanine levels have been associated with effects on mood and executive functioning deficits. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an increase in anxiety and depression in the general population significantly. In this session, a physician, a social worker, and a doctorate prepared nurse with Classical PKU will be leading a discussion around key self-assessments and coping strategies that adults can utilize to enhance overall quality of life and mental health.
