- The videos are already getting longer! jk here's a quick intro to the major bebop scale. I think this scale is really important for learning to connect and extend phrases, but the scale itself can also give you some hip ideas. All the lines in this video will work over Cmaj7/Cmaj6, but in future videos I'll talk about more applications. I'll be doing a couple of these videos on bebop scales in the next few weeks.

This is a great way to describe Barry Harris’ “half step rules,” although I’ve never heard of him clarifying how to address starting on non-scale tones. Thanks for the vid! Looking forward to the rest of this series
He has a lot of patterns that involve notes outside of the scale. His “half-step below” ideas might give you something to play with.
This series is excellent for all things BH related, including non scale tones…czcams.com/video/KQgBnh9vUgI/video.htmlsi=PecUOW7TYpJVyOvt
@@mellodc But Chris Parks is a first call...Things I've Learned From Barry Harris cannot be beat. The episode the half-step rules for major chords has stuff on starting on any note.
@@isaacbeen2087yep, agreed, great!
Thank you, Cecil! Your insight is very useful. There are many bebop scales, however, some may be less relevant than others depending on an individual player’s approach to melodic chromaticism. If you were to cover more material on this in addition to major and dominant, would you consider creating a video on the melodic minor bebop and half diminished bebop scales?
Thank you very much Cecil! Waiting for next part lessons for sure...
This is a fantastic instructional video and I’m constantly amazed that a young guy like yourself can contain so much seasoned musical knowledge! Thank you, this one will take some time but I’m excited to start working on these concepts!
That bepop line at the end is so good
The concept of playing chord tones only on strong beats is such a difficult concept to actually incorporate. This lesson really helps explain it. Thanks.
Amazing player and great teacher as well
Great player, great teacher. Would really like to learn more about your right hand technique.
Edit: He actually have a picking masterclass lesson on his website.
I love seeing how you organize this information in your head. A lot here I can add to my own perspectives. Super appreciate it!

6:15 can you run these arpeggios up scale wise ie Cmaj 7 up bebop down then D min7 up bebop down or is that a mistake? Thanks for all this info
Yeah definitely, though the arpeggios Dmin7, Fmaj7, G7 and Bmin7b5 will probably sound like V-I. Nothing is a mistake if you dig it
@@cecilalexander8773cool thank you
