    These guys are all great top tier players, way better than me. But in this day and age with all the information available/online lessons, etc, there's many hundreds of players as good at this lot. When I'm on tour I'll occasionally go to see a local band or jam session and it blows me away how many unnoticed great players there are...often in shit towns in the middle of no where.

    • @pereztube2
      @pereztube2 Před 8 lety +1

      +Jackson Smith so true, i think now more than ever a player's creativity and individuality matters more than just being"good" or having chops. everybody's got chops these days but very few can actually write good music

    • @jscordoba3
      @jscordoba3 Před 8 lety +1

      +Nodald T. Rump Very very true on the songwriting. Thats why players like Jimmy Page, Angus Young, Keith Richards..etc will be remembered by the masses and players like Guthrie Govan, Danny Gatton, Shawn Lane...etc will be remembered mostly by other guitar players. While the latter are far superior players technically, the former wrote some of the greatest songs of all time. Great songs stand the test of time.

    • @pereztube2
      @pereztube2 Před 8 lety

      +Jackson Smith true.you heard Blake Mills? dude smokes all these guys in the songwriting department.monster player too , seen him live and he blew my mind. he isn't as polished nor does he play as savagely as JB or Simo but his phrasing is tops. tasty stuff.

      Yeah, there are a lot of good players out there...but not on this level. These really are some of the top guys in the biz. I definitely wouldn't say many hundreds - maybe with the chops but not with the nuance and feel.

      @@israelarochena yeah, it's debatable. Purely on technical ability Josh Smith can run rings around Joe Bonamassa. If we're talking feel/emotion Dereck Trucks wipes the floor with almost anyone. If we're talking commercial success then Kenny Wayne Shepherd isnt miles behind Joe Bonamassa. I love Joe's playing, and it's all obviously subjective, but it's not so clear cut that he's "the greatest".

    I wish I could find a live version of him doing this like he did on the Black Rock album. He always slows it down when he does it live. I wonder if he ever did it like that. Probably the same reason Clapton always slows down Crossroads and has never done it quite like the original Cream version. They know that the original versions were such perfection they could never touch them.

    • @theguitarstudio
      @theguitarstudio Před 2 lety

      Agree, his recorded version of this track on Black Rock is one of the first things I ever heard of his and it is an incredible performance... I've never seen any performance of him playing it at that tempo live. He could definitely play it at that tempo no problem - I just think that he must've decided that he liked this slower funkier thing a bit more... it works well with jamming situations like this but I'd love to hear a live version now that is at the same temp of the one on the Black Rock album.

      +Joachim Eskildsen Correct. Where I am from (Philadelphia) we go nuts when the song ends not while the band is playing a soft part of the song. In Baltimore they interrupt the song with "I love you Joe" or "yeh!" In DC they talk to their neighbor while the band is playing. I saw Warren Haynes walk off the stage in DC - the audience was so bad. Philly and NYC are the best. Baltimore is the worst.
