In this video, I'm going to show you how to clean and seal a stamped concrete walkway.
This method of cleaning and sealing stamped concrete will also work for stamped patios, driveways, pool decks, pretty much all exterior stamped concrete.
It's important to clean your stamped concrete so the concrete sealer will adhere properly and not peel or flake off.
I'm going to show you how I clean my stamped concrete jobs and what I use to clean the concrete to remove the release powder.
It's also very important to use the right kind of stamped concrete sealer and know how to apply it.
I'll show you what I recommend for a sealer and how I apply it to the concrete.

Thanks Mike, I am going to seal five concrete Bird Baths I have, after many years of neglect by the previous owners.
I know that your video was a much larger project than mine, I just needed some ideas in particular for cleaning the concrete. Having watched many videos, with the only mention about cleaning was “Clean the concrete”! I already knew that.
Your mention of Dawn Dish Washing detergent was a huge eye opener, and made total sense. I have not done any concrete work since the school summer breaks, so forty plus years have passed!
    Thank you again,

Just seeing and utilizing your instructions now. Even with all the great info and advice, this was a steep learning curve for me. I’ve done simple walkways on our farm here no problem. But the stamping wasn’t a snap even with your crew making it look so easy. Trying to work your time table, I experimented on a small concrete landing for a set of steps I’m adding to our wraparound deck near our mud room. I had pretty fair luck mixing my own concrete in the first of 4 40”x40” sections. Stamped surprisingly well for a first attempt. But the second two both ended up too creamy and watery on the top and I stamped too soon. Not the same clean registration as the first. For the last one I used a 3,2,2 mixture and reduced the water to almost a paver mix. That really worked out well and started coming close to the results y’all were getting. I’m going to try to add some of the detail back to the two poorer stamped sections which will be more easily seen in front of the steps. With a grinder. I’m also conceding a big project would be out of my capabilities and I’m going to allow my goto professional contractor to use my stamps to do a patio sized pour I thought I’d try originally. I’ll just save my newfound “Mike instructed” stamp skills for the smaller walkway projects here for now. But this video series all made the difference between complete fail and moderate success. We all see our own mistakes more, but I think it’ll probably look pretty good once it’s sealed later this week. Thanks so much, Mike.

I'm new to the pressure washing game but rapidly learning. I see in a lot of forums that you are not suppose to use a surface cleaner on concrete less than 5 years old because it will wear down the cream. Can you do a video about this, explaining what that is and the proper way to clean newer pours? I have not been able able to find a video that goes into any depth on this subject.

Thanks for the video. Our stamped concrete had an umbrella on it that was weighed down by a sandbag and the sand pulled the color out leaving white blotches. We used the powder with sealer to color in those spots and it came out a little darker. Hi Mike, I have a stamped concrete patio and a chapin max sprayer. The 2 nozzles they provide are 110-1.0 gpm and the other is a 95-.5 gmp. I have followed your CZcams videos and am wondering why I cant get the nice even spray like you do. I get banding, according to chapin and they say the sealer is too thick. I am using foundation armor 5oo. If you would, can you tell me what size tip i need for this sprayer and sealer combination so I can get the same spray results as you do without the "banding" I would greatly appreciate it for my next sealing. Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike, Im hoping you still look at these comments being that this is an old video I have a question will pressure washing release after a few weeks or even a month take off the release? I had mine done about 3 weeks ago but not enough release was removed. I was wondering if I can go over it with a pressure washer to take off more of the release. Also I thought we should always wait for the concrete to fully cure before sealing. Am I wrong? Seems a little too soon to seal after a few days.

We just had a concrete patio poured. The concrete was colored, stamped and a powdered release agent was used but the contractor did not power-wash and/or scrub the release agent before applying a sealant. The release agent was swept off with a broom and then the sealant sprayed on (very spotty). Now I have light "powder" marks along the concrete cuts (under the sealant) and bare spots where there is no sealant. Can I remove the sealant, power-wash and scrub the release agent off or is it too late to correct the situation? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My stamp was laid today and it rained like 4 hours later. I run outside and the concret looks like it had small conreter laying on it. I was nervous. Thank you for this video. Looks pretty straightforward. My stamped concrete was poured 5 years ago. I have power washed it but haven't sealed it since. Shame on me... Needs it badly. Besides being very dull, over time dampness leaves a green algae-like residue, and dirt. Power washing will take that off. Don't know if they originally used water-based or solvent-based sealer... just guessing it was water-based. It's all very dull now. I see you recommend Armor Ar350, an acrylic. Please don't be offended by the question, but is acrylic-based that much better over time than water-based? I'm so confused about which kind to use.

You're probably not going to be able to remove all of it. Just wash it like we do and lightly scrub it. That'll remove most of it. If it doesn't and you want to remove more, you can try a 9 parts water to 1 part muriatic acid wash. scrub it, neutralize it with baking soda and water mixture, then rinse it. That should remove a little more. Then use Tique wash from NewLook International.

For a DIY’er a plastic sprayer is fine, just throwing it away afterwards-$8 versus 250 for a stainless steel sprayer and you have to clean it. Again for a DIY’er. Also, I rolled my stamped concrete for a more even coat- contractor sprayed it and it was very uneven in less than a year so I redid it.

My concrete was stamped and colored by the throwing method that you no longer use. If I power wash and scrub the way you suggested won't I remove the color from the concrete? As a result of the throwing method isn't the color just in the very top layer? My grey stamped concrete (just like in your video) is 3 years old...after hard rains you can see areas of color fading away. I would like to power wash it and seal it but am afraid I'll remove all of the color off. Am I missing something?

You may remove some "loose surface color" but the color should be hardened in to the cement paste on the surface of the concrete. You could "stain" the surface to re-do the color if you need to, then seal it. Check Ameripolish.com for stain colors.

Quick question, was this concrete side was a certain color or was it just stamped without a color

Good question, mine was just stamped without color, I’d like to seal it in a few weeks.

I have stamp concrete and it’s due for a re-seal. Would you do one or 2 coats?

When it’s one year old do you rewash and reseal?

Can I use a 2400 psi pressure washer to prep my 3 year old stamped concrete patio? Maybe just a smaller fan and longer time spent to do so?

Yea, it might just take you a little longer.

James N. Look for something like a “SIMPSON Turbo Nozzle” to make it go faster. It’s a narrow stream that rotates, covers an area like a fifteen degree fan but it penetrates like a zero degree. I have one and it has worked very well for me.

Lazy Lizard I bought on and really made no difference. Turned a flat swipe into a circular swipe. Returned it.
