Consett is a town situated around 25km south west of Newcastle in County Durham. Famed for its steel works and red dust which closed thirty years ago, it is the place I spent most of my teenage years. Here I describe some of the things I see and how it has changed.
My channel on you tube : / alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced over 1,700 original films. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects
Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!
There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
This was a blast for me. I grew up in Blackhill, lived on St Cuthberts Ave. I went to Benfieldside and Blackfyne Comprehensive. Still have family who live there. I'm old enough to remember the little bridge along the carriage drive which eventually led to the Derwent walk old railway line. Bellamys, Ah i spent so much time in there as a college student in 1990 before i moved to Bournemouth. I now live in Sheffield and still visit Consett to see family. I remember the stink from Celluware on Derwent St. Consett has changed so much now!
+dyson cockburn Thanks for writing Dyson - I left a bit before you!
I see the weather hasn't changed in Consett, always misty, snow and rain.
I am originally from Consett and the town has changed in the last decade or 2, but I live in Ouston near Chester Le Street now and I still keep coming to Consett to see family.
Consett has changed a lot even since this was last filmed. There's a massive new Tescos moved from Delves Lane now a bit further down from Aldi, a new Morrisons next door to Aldi, a big Starbucks (adjacent to Tescos), KFC, McDonald's and so on. Also a £44 million sports complex along Medomsley Rd.
1074 ? Did you get to see William the Conqueror ? I suppose the steelworks weren't there then.
I came here to see any mentions of Duke of Wellington pub near the bus station.
Yes, Phileas Fogg made Consett famous. I always remember the steelworks on top of the hill and it looked so dominant.
hello i really enjoyed your videos ,i lived in castledene road from 1976 to 1980 and went to delves lane junior school ,so any videos of the area would be welcome .keep up the good work
@STEE191 As you can see the weather was typical Consett weather and so I put off the tour of Leadgate for another time. But I will do it too.
So we were there at the same time. My father had a friend in that street - Dave Horseman. I think Dave passed on a number of years ago, he would be well into his nineties if still alive.
Someone uploaded the advert to you tube showing Punjab Airways and their direct flights to Consett International!
I WAS WOnDERING WHEN YOU'D GET AROUND TO PHILEAS FOGG.I remember the Punjab Airways ad and people actually believed that there was an airport at Consett and were making enquiries about said fictitious airline!
Delves club long gone, Alan have you not been back so much change since this video was taken
@alanheath ah right, my mam and dad have lived hear all there life and so have i
@STEE191 I was there from 1974 - 1980.
