  • X-H2 or X-H2s… Let’s determine if the XH2 autofocus holds up to the XH2s, and if the dynamic range of the XH2s will compare to the XH2. In this ultimate comparison we will do several tests to determine what camera is ideal for a photography perspective and discuss the differences. This will be a great guide to help you make a decision to upgrade from older FujiFilm cameras - X-H1, X-T4, X-T3, etc?

      I do not own Fuji cameras, but I would at any time go for 40 megapixels. I do think that Fuji APSC cameras are too big and too expensive in Europe.

      @@MikeBanom No worries! I misread the specs on their site at first but the 16 bit only refers to TIFF conversion, afaik.
      They do have at least one mistake in their spec sheet though (X-H2S electronic flash sync time), so I was not sure if it was different on their site when you made that video.

    I think the best solution is the X-H2S for sports, action, and wildlife and a GFX camera for landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits.

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom  Před rokem

      For the most part I agree. I would really define it as if you shoot sports or anything VERY fast… XH2s. XH2 does hold its own, you just might be left with a lot of unusable bursts. But I did get some great bursts shots of my dog as you may have seen with the XH2.

    Regarding the loss of "tactile" switches like AF mode, drive mode etc - they had to do that to fit the design, as PASM cameras with multiple custom mode slots - things which previously were controlled by physical dials had to become "virtual" so that the custom slots can control them, as a result the custom slots can store/recall just about every camera setting (unlike most other Fuji models) which mostly store/recall JPG settings only.

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom  Před rokem

      Makes sense. But personally… I think its not the right direction for Fuji. Yes, they conform with other modern cameras. It feels more along the lines of a Sony, Nikon, etc. But that was the cool part about Fuji. I know the XT5 has the old tilt screen and dials. Personally I think that top display is game changer, so I couldn't consider the XT5. But hey. Just my opinion. Everyone has different opinions. Also, as you said, totally didn't say the right word. Tactile. Now its burned in. lol

    My takeaway, by the way, is that the X-H2 would be a great complement for you. It's going to be incredible for video (unless you need 6.2K open gate) and the photo quality is fantastic. I predict you go with the X-H2.

    Great video! I did watch your video because I own a X-T5 and I also do some wildlife with it, I was wondering if should get an X-H2s since I did own a OM-1 ( stacked sensor ) before and I did not like it. It is something hard to see from a CZcams video but I can see some of the same isse I had on OM-1 in X-H2s: color seems more washed out ( you can see it on running dogs and DR test ) and RAW seems more prone to fall apart. What ISO did you shoot the dogs? I did check Fuji spec for X-H2 since it did sound strange the 16bit RAW and it states: "RAW: 14bit RAW (RAF original format); TIFF: 8bit / 16bit RGB (In-camera Raw Conversion Only)" so I guess RAW are 14bit.

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom  Před rokem +2

      The running dogs were shot at 800 ISO. Only so I could crank the shutter to 1/4000th.
      I did send these cameras back so I can only check the files, but for the XH2, i shot in RAW, 16 bit. It reflects so in the metadata. Might just be worded weird in the specs.
      But also your analysis is exactly as I found. The image quality is indeed better on the XH2. Better dynamic range, etc. XH2s is what you need if you want to shoot really fast moving things though. I've tried several dog sprints after this video, might do a follow up for AF, and the XH2 just cannot handle really really fast subjects. It handles my smaller dog just fine, he usually doesnt want to go really fast. For Chief, the bigger dog, it just cannot track him, he goes pretty fast. Feel free to DM me on IG! Always happy to talk gear and specs and all that.

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom  Před rokem +1

      Great question! To be honest, I pretty much only record talking head video for CZcams videos. I don't usually go out shooting photo then switch to video, so I didn't heavily test this feature. Next time I get an XH camera, I will report back. I'm kind of thinking now I might go XT5 with an external monitor. Going to make a video on the XT5 next. If you find out the answer, please report back!

      @@MikeBanom This is why I use my X-H2 for photography more often - czcams.com/video/qoZH0C4Jzd8/video.html - that moment, I do think that is a significant difference in terms of quality. The car on the X-H2 is just so much more detailed.
      AF is weird, man. We'll see when the update comes for the X-H2 this Spring but as of right now, yes, they're close. The X-H2 highlighted Lisa's nose more often than the X-H2S but still, despite that, both are alarmingly close.

      @@oxeneers Agreed 100% on the photo quality. After going GFX… pretty hard to go back to XH1 / XH2s and especially have the desire to take the camera out instead of the GFX.
      I think it comes down to if you are shooting really fast insane dogs, XH2s. Otherwise, XH2.

  • @XavierMinguellaPhotography

    The X-H1 it is a 24mp sensor, not 23. May you compare IQ between H1 and H2s? I think H2 it is better than H2s and for video, I don't know if there is a huge difference. I am an H1 user and for my needs H2s it should be my preference but not sure, I work in press most of the time and with 26mp it is enough, I do sports but not many so it is a big dilema, X-T4, X-H2s or X-H2... Probably the X-H2 it is the winner.

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom  Před rokem +1

      You are correct! My XH1 collects so much dust, I forgot about that extra 1 MP! Lol. As for the XH2 beating the XH2s in video… I mean they are just very different. If you want 4k at 120p, naturally you'd go XH2s. Id say most photo people who don't do a ton of video, XH2 is prob the answer. If you shoot fast moving sports, you may want the XH2s for the better AF. It really comes down to you either need the extra MP, or faster video specs.
      I didn't do a direct comparison between the XH1 and XH2s… but after editing several files, I'm really not sure there is a big difference. At least enough to use it as a decision maker.

      @@MikeBanom If I ever buy an H2 or H2s I think I am going to use it as an H1, without any kind of tracking, just the joystick, did you tried the H2 & H2s without animal tracking or face detection or any kind of object tracking, so no AI. By the way I have good results or very good results in sports using the H1, but I use a Fringer adapter for that, the tele lenses in Fujifilm it is a big problem, I don't like the focal range of the 50-140 and there is no "small and cheap" tele primes for that except the 90, so a 135 or a 200 or even a 300mmf4...

I had a Fujifilm XT4 and Canon R7, and sold them both, after testing the 3 in open shade, sun light, and low light. Fujifilm X-H2s was the best of all in all situations. You know that everyone is complaining about the fujifilm video autofocus and you comparre the two cameras with different lenses at different apertures, 1.4 vs 2.8. And autofocus test is not about if you see a square on your eye, the important thing is to move back and forth fast to see if the camera can track you. I can see on the xh2 is doing ok, and the xh2s at f2.8 the background is pulsing. People should not buy camera base on the douche youtubers that play with the cameras 30 minutes for a youtube video.

    • @MikeBanom

      That is exactly why I made sure to use the same settings and exact same lens for both so it'd be a 1 to 1 comparison, at least as much as it could be. That'd be me, the d who has a 30 min video 🙄. Its hard to put together a good comparison. Best way to know is to rent each camera, but that can be expensive.
