  • This video covers how to change the headlight Bulb on your 2013 JX35 and 2014 2015 QX60. It may be possible that similar methods apply to the 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 models, but I have not verified this against the refreshed designs. This will show you all the ins and outs needed to get to the bulb and change it.

    Thank you for the best tutorial on how to change both bulbs on the JX35/QX60. The passenger side was the most difficult for me because of the limited space and view. I dropped the bulb inside the passenger headlight housing and was having the hardest time getting it out until I thought of using my telescopic magnetic stick. Thankfully it's got some metal and it stuck to the tip of the magnet and saved me from having to remove the entire headlight to get it out. Other than that, this is a 30 min job if you don't drop anything like I did.

      @NexusAuto  Před 3 měsíci +1

      No problem at all! I agree with the passenger side...Definitely trickier to work on. I hate when something small happens and ruins an easy job...happens to all of us. Good thing that magnet came in handy! Thanks for watching!

    Great video. Replaced my passenger side headlight. Very tight quarters. Unfastened the wheel well cover and was able to use my left hand from that access point while my right hand accessed from the top (to left of wiper fluid). (You can't see anything when you do this - so I just used the Force to see it in my mind like Luke training with Obi Wan). Remove the plug from the bulb before you "unclip" the bulb. We mistakenly unclipped the old bulb first and it came out with the plug - but couldn't get the old bulb off. Reinstalled, reclipped and then unplugged leaving the old bulb installed. Then unclipped and removed the old bulb.

    Thanks for the video! I did my wife's QX60 but instead of going through the top, I went through the wheel well. There are three screws on the outside (they suck by the way as they appeared to be self-tapping so they did not go back in as easily but I managed) that I took off and then pulled back the rubber well liner. From there, his instructions were very helpful and yes, the dust cap was the hardest part. Agree with the other folks that it was much easier than I expected and saved me so money!

They will not warranty it. They said they have never heard of this happening before and that its $3k for the head light replacement. The scummy dealership is called LIA Infiniti located in Latham NY FYI. Obviously do not recommend them.

    Yeah, pretty good video, all in all. I replaced the passenger side HID bulb after watching this video. However, the passenger side was a bit of a nightmare due to convoluted access, for either right or left hands. My hands and wrists are thin, but it was still very difficult to reach and remove the dust shield, unclip the old bulb, slide new bulb in, line up the notch, re-clip, and attach the power socket. None of this is fault of the video, of course. Still, I saved a good $150 by not having my good buddy/shade tree mechanic do the work. Also, 2 bulbs cost me only $50, hope they last a while. Note: earlier in the year I took my JX35 to the dealer for a driver side headlamp replacement... Get this: They replaced the bulb (still not working), ran a test on the ballast (said ballast was good) and finally said the whole headlamp assembly needed to be replaced. 'Cause that's how they do it - replace the whole headlamp/turn signal assembly unit. $1500 parts plus $250 labor. This after replacing the bulb $50/$150 labor. I declined and took the vehicle to my good buddy who investigated and said the power plug was not connected. He connected it and it worked. Watch out for those dealers, folks!

      Thanks!! Appreciate the great feedback! I'm with you there...passenger side is definitely tighter to work with. Awesome to hear you got it done and saved some money!!
      That dealership story is insane, but I'm not surprised! Can believe it all came down to a connector....and how much they were going to charge for their 'fix'. It's absolutely insane.

      Hey sorry to be late to the party but I’m trying to replace my drivers side headlamp and I accessed it, swapped it out, reconnected that power cord and it still doesn’t work. Did your guy gave to reconnect the other end of the power cable assembly? I put the bulb in the power cable and it didn’t work even without reinstalling it in the fixture.

I don't know why I couldn't find it until now, but it was definitely more informative and detailed! Thanks, much appreciated. If you need to access the fuse box (on the left side, called an IPDM by Infiniti), it pulls right out. It looks like a box that's fixed in. But if you release the clips around (3 or 4, if I remember correctly) and gently lift it out, and carefully turn it over, you'll see the fuses on the underside. It's a stupid design to be honest, one of the very few things I don't like with this vehicle. Hope that helps a bit

      Hello, and thank you for checking out my videos. Glad they are proving helpful.
      I have not done the headlights yet for the same issue... you cannot just put any old LED on here, due to the ballasts for the HID. There are bulbs out there, but did not actively look yet. Additionally, even if you find an HID compatible one, does not mean it will project well in the housing.
      The good news is that I plan to tackle exactly this in the future, but it is not the next video I will be making in the next bit. Hopefully I can get to it soon.

    Thanks for showing this helpful vid. Several things, perhaps you could include an upgraded bulb to the OEM bulb you seem to have then reinstall for the sake of this vid. The next thing is we as viewers can't always see exactly what you are doing, which I presume is you' re doing this 1 handed, & sometimes you need 2 hands to complete the task at hand. Also, since you have big hands it often obscures whst you're doing. It occurred to me you may want to get a different type of camera which would allow you to access areas of the vehicle your current camera doesn't. Plumbers use these mini cams to look into drains in order to visually see what's going on in the pipe. It certsinly would vastly improve your vids particularly when working in a close space like the engine bay. In any event, for whatever it's worth. . Really enjoy your vids!

      No problem at all. Glad the video helped out. I also appreciate all feedback, good or bad. I always get good, almost never bad, and yours is great feedback as well. Just for the sake of, I did want to address some of your points.
      1. I did not include the upgraded bulbs as I haven't found any that are truly suitable or an 'upgrade' LEDs actually are worse in these projectors, and the aftermarket Xenon lights haven't convinced me that they are any better. EVERY other light in this car has been upgraded, and I want to upgrade the headlights, but the search continues. But I hear you on it, would be nice to see. Which leads a bit to my second point.
      2. You are absolutely right. I only made this video for the sake of, as I did vids on all the other lights for this car.. It came out much later than the other ones, only because I have been searching for a light, but could not find it, so I decided to film a standard how to. . as a side note, I REALLY want to make a video showing the difference between an LED, factory Xenon, and aftermarket Xenon, but as my channel is small still, the investment in those bulbs will not yield the returns, but so is CZcams life. So either when I have some spare cash lying around ill do it, or when the channel gets bigger.
      3. 100% agree here. I have pretty good equipment already, with a few different tripods, cameras, and more. but in tight angles like this, I still do not have a 100% proper solution. I have looked at snake cams, but there is a lot to do with the channel, and since this is not something I am making into a business venture, and still small, I invest bit by bit as much cash flow permits. For example, I just purchases a wireless mic for when I need to move away from the camera, an annoying problem I had over the years, and I just purchased new editing software. Nothing to brag about, but I am investing when I can. A Snake Cam is on my list for the future. for sure. It would help in scenarios like this 100%.
      Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it and love that the videos help out. If you ever have additional feedback, do not hesitate to leave it!

      Officially, there isn't a way to swap between the first gen and second gen QX60s. There isn't even a way to transfer between the original QX60 and the mid model refresh. you are right that they are sealed units, with individual LEDs. The only way I can imagine changing the power of the rear lights is to either have custom ones made, or have them open and have the LEDs changed to larger, more powerful ones. Since I never opened the units, I'm not sure how intensive that is, but I imagine a fair bit of soldering would be required.

      Hi Taresa. This is an excellent question.
      First, to be honest, I have not used the bulb. I made this video to help people out, but my bulb has not blown (yet). I am still using my original bulbs as of now. So I have not tried the bulbs as of now.
      When I selected this bulb, I researched many to find one compatible. With the link I attached, I checked the questions and found answers indicating it works for both QX56 and QX60 models (JX35 included). They all use the same ballasts.
      Based on this information from the seller, I believe it will work. But I have not tested the bulbs for quality, lighting quality, and longevity. I list the bulbs as a helpful link.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  Před 2 lety

      It can definitely be the ballast, but there are other things too, everything from a wiring issue to a bad/corroded connector. There first thing would say to check before anything else is the headlight fuse. There is a separate one for each headlight. The fuse box is under the hood. If the fuse looks good, if you are good with a multimeter, I would say to check the circuit bit by bit, starting with the connector. Ballasts can go for sure, but I have seen a lot more bad connectors vs bad ballasts, and it would suck to replace the ballast and still be in the same spot.

      Hmmm. I would start off by swapping your left and right bulbs. If the one that was blinking still blinks on the other side, then it may be a lemon bulb you got. • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Marie. There can be a few causes. First and foremost, I would say to check the fuse. There is a fuse for each headlight individually, so check that first (if you haven't already). After that, there really is 4 other things that could be an issue, ultimately
      1. The ballast for the HID lights
      2. Some wiring has gone bad/been damaged/got chewed/became corroded.
      3. The wiring harness that connects to the bulb is bad/burnt/corroded
      4. the computer for the car has an issue (although this one is HIGHLY unlikely)
      There is also the possibility that the new bulb is bad. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. If you have the time, you could swap the bulbs on the left and right side and see what happens. Always good to double check to be sure. Hope this helps

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  Před 3 lety

      Thanks, appreciate it. Since your friend has a 2017 qx50 base model, it is likely to be an H11 halogen, as you mentioned. There is a HID H11, but not likely to be in the base model (but it is possible).
      There is supposed to be some room under the hood for changing the headlight. Unfortunately, I do not have access to q QX50 to show. But just like the QX60, there seems to be smaller plastic/rubber covers on each side of the engine area, right behind the headlight assemblies, that you can remove to gain access to the bulbs.

And yes, there is that same white plastic cover at the back. Hoping that I won't have to take the front bumper off. So my next Q is can I just get an LED H11 bulb, and should be plug n play? The thing I'm worried about is the connector that is inside the housing. Damn luxury cars forces you to take out the bumper so they can charge the customers more money. Marketing 101.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  Před 3 lety +1

      @@crispa1861 No problem at al. If it is yellowish and a base model, then I think you have the right assumption on the halogen.
      You shouldn't need to take off the bumper either. From the information I can gather, you can either use the method I mentioned in my previous comment, but if that doesn't work, you should be able to get in through the wheel well. A pain in the butt, but better than taking off the bumper. But I am fairly confident in the first option I gave.
      If you get LED H11, they are plug and play, but you have to get the right fitment. Your concerns are definitely correct. They do sell H11 bulbs that have the same bulb housing.
      For example, something like this one (although I am not endorsing this one, just used for an example)

      @Degrees-oy2lw yeah, that's the most messed up part of it. Clearly they weren't even need. What were they even diagnosing? That's screwed up!

    May be a dumb question but do I have to disconnect the battery to do this?

      Not a dumb question at all!
      Do you have to? Absolutely yes, for safety measures and to make sure electrical components do not get damaged. I do it without disconnecting the battery, but I take that personal risk. 99 out of 100, everything will be fine. But that 1 time is the worry. Especially when working with electrical ballasts (that power the HID). You don't want a shock from one of those.
