What can't they make cars like this anymore, with the nice curves and chrome bumpers!
David Lee is my favorite guest on Jay's show. Seems like such a nice dude
super humble
Hhhhh
I agree. He's fantastic and think he's just a great guy all around
I was so impressed with David. I thought humble and just down to earth. I asked him a question about Jay and he responded.
He isn't at all
Hard to believe this is a 70's model vehicle..love the curves and flow...absolutely gorgeous!!
I saw the video when it first came out...this is now the 5th time...kinetic artwork...I would cherish one.
One of the most gorgeous cars I've ever seen...
agree
You're a blossom fan, you know nothing about beauty..
Whoa!
Big Hoss
Aaah, but YOU do I guess ??
I always loved how the Dino looked, but when I heard "v6" even as a 5 year old, I went "That's not a _real_ Ferrari, dad!" This one fixes that in the most amazing way possible.
The car is a work of art. Absolutely amazing
So true it just makes you lust after it.
the brits have some excellent engineers
Bellissima!
Just like Jay says "some purrists will hang him for it" I would say "why not do it course it's still all Ferrari" and it looks like it's even a flairs model.
It's Amazing !
Absolutely is, those lines, oh those lines...
Such a great car! Those headlight covers make the car 1,000 better looking!
One of the finest cars I’ve seen Jay test drive. A thing of beauty - a work of art commissioned by David Lee!
Everything about this car is gorgeous. Those body lines are so beautiful!
Lex Selfmade Life That’s called Craftsmanship...
Yes but totally spoiled by those bathroom railings for bumpers !!
Robert Manfred Thurrigl
Who said bathroom railings couldn’t be luxurious? Those bumpers fit the look.
Tom
That’s a racing car, not a road car. The Dino is beautiful partly because it doesn’t try to be a 330 p3. It tries to be the humble brother of the mid engine super cars of its day, delivering remarkably mediocre performance in exchange for the driving experience and not being so spectacularly rare or unreliable you’d have to purchase a second of these cars just for parts.
@@robertmanfredthurrigl9424 Geeez, Bob, those bumpers are stock. They were on OEM ! Remember that in early 70's, 5 mph bumpers were mandatory.
Remember those hyper ugly rubber bumpers most manufacturers had to put on - like MGBs, Jags etc.or enormous chromed US cars had ?
Man, David Lee seems like a very cool fellow to hang with.
The world will be a better place with 25 of these roaming about...for sure.
It's a fantastic car for sure. They are both lucky and nice guys.
David Lee is an awesome guest, one of my favorites.
David Lee’s collection is insane!!!
Lovecars His ego is too.
Adeel A. Ahmad I've heard mixed things about him. What exactly led you to say that? Just curious because I don't know much about him.
matbe because he carries a european mans purse lol
Lovecars I
airlopez21 He is a nice guy for sure but he's full of himself too. I followed his Instagram for so long and had enough some day. I don't think he's dishonest in his business practices neither. I thought he was a bit much of "me, me, me" type. And now I feel bad for giving him a hard time. :p
Perfect. The most gorgeous car, not only dinoism, but perfection of any car. Enzo, p1, F40. Any car.............. Thank you Mr Lee
The owner seems a humble nice guy...well done Sir - you deserve what I think is the most beautiful car I've seen in decades..
Love it. The headlight covers look fantastic. It was a beautiful car but such an underperformer from the factory but now it’s amazing.
Matty23 Ya the headlight covers give it a much more purposeful Porsche 904 look.
Yea it’s sweet I would have put a 458 Italia motor in it for better reliability
Actually, it was a good performer at the time ! Remember that Ferrari was in a tight financial slump.
They needed an entry level, more affordable car in large volumes to make money. After being bought by Fiat (Agnelli), they cut a deal to mass produce (Fiat) a V6 but with exclusive heads and internal for the Ferrari more powerful version and detuned versions for Fiat models, all to cut costs. The interior was in vinyl too, no leather.
Enzo hated the idea of a mid-engined, transverse design V6 car. So he charged his son to make it happened, but always refused to call it a proper Ferrari, not to upset his traditionnal, snobby clients, thus the name Dino.
Marc René Yvon that’s true. Thanks for the info.
The Headlight covers were an optional extra (also the front badgebar) in the UK, I think I am right is saying they were not allowed in the USA, also the front indicators are normaly slanted but again for the US regulations they were modified to be "upright".
David is one of my favorite guests on this channel
He's a sweet guy with sweet cars.
Same, I really like the guy
He's a little too in love with himself.
me too, i love his laugh, and his ferraris, lol
ampark09
You're just jealous, admit it ! The guy is a succesful young business man, makes a good living and he spends his dough on his toys as Jay. Deserves respect.
Really amazing car. I like how Jay and David get along. This video encouraged me too, I’m almost 40 so I’ve survived Muscular Dystrophy for far longer than most with it have. Didn’t know Dino died of it. But his story lives on. Beautiful car!
Live life Garrett!
Stop making it about yourself you NARCISSIST.
I know I’m 5 years late but thank you Jay for sharing amazing vehicles like this.
SO BEAUTIFUL
I really appreciate your channel and the rare (royalty) you present
Saw David driving this car last Monday in Pasadena, in the real world the fender flares are perfect !
The flares balance the look of the 17" wheels and lower profile tires. Saluto to Mr. Lee and his build team !
This Dino is the best looking Dino I've ever seen! Mr Lee, you're the man!
Love the relationship between these two. David giggles at every joke Jay says. All their videos are a good watch.
When you have the proper money (and good taste) to do it right, this is the result.
And Dave has both in spades.
Dino Ferrari... a beautiful TIMELESS body style.!! I drove these years ago with the original V-6 and then a GT with the V8. The V6 was a boring dead dog.. The V8 was a blast because at 250HP and only 2500 pounds the power to weight ratio was perfect for twisty Northern California mountain roads. David's EVO is a coooool mod..!!
That might be the most beautiful rear engine car I've ever seen.
Mid engine.
heymisterderp it’s mid engined not rear!!!
Just would like to see the engine positioned 90 degrees...
Im sry wut?
@@henryjus REAR Mid-Engined.
Not many cars I could call a rolling work of art but this is one! David you have great taste in cars, always enjoy seeing you on the show with Leno.
The Dino is right up there with the most gorgeous cars, love it
I love the way Jay incessantly interrupts his guests, but not always verbally, but sometimes with the revving of the engines, letting them know one thing for sure... "I ain't really listening to you Buddy!" hahahaa See a prime example, when right in the middle of explaining something, a burst of engine noise cuts him off in mid-sentence, and Mr. Lee looks like - WTF!!! See it @ 14:11 !!! ...and have a laugh!!!
LMFAO for reals!
Jay didn't interrupt him. David finished his sentence, which ended "...but everything else is original." BTW, the guy is good friends with Jay, and has been on the show many times. Lee also owns 50 million dollars worth of cars himself, so he's not to be intimidated, even by Jay. If he didn't enjoy being on the show, he wouldn't be.
Clay Loomis I think he means that Jay started the revving before he finished his sentence. Yeah, he managed to finish his sentence, but the revving was started before he finished, and it was enough to totally change the expression on Lee's face. To me, it was a funny moment, and I'm glad he pointed it out. And there's a difference in being interrupted and being intimidated...you're mixing apples and oranges, and that's not what the guy said. Also, I would imagine that most anyone who subscribes to Leno's Garage is aware of Mr. Lee's collection of cars, and his good relationship with Jay. And if you're gonna talk about things that everyone already knows about, then it's for sure that people already know about Jay's habit of interrupting people...as it's been talked about in these comment sections many times! bye bye
Well, thank God you cleared THAT up.
Of course. I think I'd have a hard time not interrupting someone if my foot where in that thing!
Now THAT is a beautiful car.
It’s always a pleasure n David Lee is on , he is very knowledgeable and likable guy ❗️🇺🇸
😳 Awesome car!! Perfect combination of looks, craftsmanship, power and color!!
Damn thing looks like a scale model in the opening shots until Jay steps into view.
J T I
@10:21 they're using a lot of foreground focus, it really makes the car pop and looks very surreal compared to the rest of the shot. The lighting is really nice too.
Evil D indeed... Made this beautiful car look even more beautiful. Almost like an emotion.
It still looks like a scale model when they try to get in the car 😁
I thought the same thing!
This is my absolute favorite video of all time. The car is one of the most beautiful and amazing Ferrari’s I have ever seen. A great tribute to Dino Ferrari, Enzo would have loved it.
Saverio Salemme Enzo was still alive and kicking when this came out !
@@Ekphrasys I guess Saverio talks about that specific restomod car. At the time, Enzo actually despised the car. V6, mid-engine, 🤮, not Enzo's cup o' tea.
@@marcryvon he didn't despise it, he wasn't sure if it would be right to put a Ferrari badge on a v6 car especially considering this was during the time Lambo came with the Miura so they spun it off as Dino
There isn't a single thing about this automobile that I don't love. I'd take a 'box stock' Dino any day - six cylinders and all; just a beautiful design. But this!? David Lee is obviously a very creative guy. Brilliant car. Great video.
David Lee got it right. I drove the Dino back in the 80's and opted for an 86 Porsche 911 but a v 8 Dino would make my day for sure.
I am not too crazy about the fender flairs. Love the rest of it. I always loved the Dino body style.
Craig Johnson . Those flairs were actually a factory option on the Dino Spyder s.
Thats what i thought, i think they look a bit out of place tbh. Other than that, its imho one of the prettiest cars i've ever seen. Id personally go with 16' wheels instead of 17', but i guess they had to fit bigger brakes, so i understand why they chose bigger wheels.
*flares
every time Jay shuts a door with the window my feelings hurt
Every time I accidentally shut mine with the window, I think of Jay.
He has a whole team to fix the windows every few years.
STUNNING!! Most beautiful Dino ever! David Lee deserves accolades for this build. INCREDIBLE!👍😎
this video should have 20 million views. A gorgeous car and two really genuine nice car guys that are great to listen to
David Lee, that's brilliant. Thank you.
The Dino was one of the best looking Ferrari's, nice mod :-)
I disagree. Exactly the opposite. Worst looking Ferrari ever and worst performer (except for this one).
Sharp Bends I totally agree! I only like the older race cars.
aaardvarkkk; I disagree with your disagreement. I as well think it's one of the most beautiful cars, among Ferrari or any other make. Always lusted after the 246 Dino since I was a kid. And this version is sooo much better.
What a beauty!
What a piece of art!
This is absolutely the most beautiful car I've ever seen!
ever seen a Miura P400 ?
@@gdp1121 hmmmmmm the lights were a bit off on the normal version (the vents that looked like eye lashes) i think this car is more beautiful but the sv could definitely compete with it. I'd still love an original miura p400 I just prefer the headlights on the s and sv, in fact ide take one over this.
Dinos tend to evoke that reaction ...
Except the orange reflexes in the front. Ruin the look.
Beside the fact that this mod looks like a work of art, you know it's Golden when Jay has no criticism towards it. All smiles and compliments with solidified proof of enjoyment when they take it out for the joy ride. I hope to see more vids like this and more from David Lee in the near future.
That is perfection. One of the most beautiful Ferrari's EVER and a great engine and brakes. Love it.
Jay has it right with his 1st comment. "This is the car Ferrari should have built". We are sooo lucky that Jay makes these video's, not to mention has created all the special cars in his collection.
Another episode that I have watched numerous times. The Dino is probably my favorite Ferrari. Such great lines. And David Lee's addition of the bubbles over the headlights just completes the look. And oh the sound of that engine. Damn.
I do not think I have ever known envy... until now. Gorgeous.
Normally I would consider modifying a classic Ferrari blasphemy but this car is epic
I like David Lee. Another nice approachable "car guy". I appreciate that Jay has him as a guest on a regular basis.
Hey, he puts his socks on one foot at a time like the rest of us (except when he chooses not to).
David Lee’s Dino has jumped to the top of iconic vehicles
Jay and Dave have been FAST friends for years. Lee makes his living in watches and rings, Jay makes his living watching guys make his bell ring.
When car guys with deep pockets are devoted, nothing is off the table. Nice work, Dave. Thanks Jay for showing us another, "if I won the lottery" show, without buying a ticket.! Purists? Go back to your forum, ascots, and wine. This is America............... Jay Leno Rocks!!
Coolyards Simply brilliant post!
lol
Absolutely brilliant! The engine / exhaust note is so spot on - I dare say, that this is my favorite of David's collection (presented here on Jay's).
The original engine actually sounds better because you have to rev it higher , here is one of mine czcams.com/video/n1s2iHEL7vs/video.html
Clicked the like button based on the thumbnail alone. Wow, wow and triple wow.
I saw my first 246 at Ital Motors in Edmonton, it was 1976, and it has been a passion ever since. It was unbelievably beautiful. I bought an E-Type a short time later but the Dino was always in my heart. The mechanics there said you could buy them in Italy for around $7000 if you had a look. I really should have but was to concerned with having fun at 19. This car is okay with me, I always thought if I had one I would add a turbo, but seeing as this car can be easily returned to original I think it is a terrific upgrade to enjoy that great chassis and the handling it gives.
This car is absolutely striking...I love a lot of cars, but this is something special
Sublime. Congratulations for bringing new life to one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
I like how David is such a good sport when ever jay rips on him
Two good people. Perfect duo. Respect.
Wonderful and clever interpretation of the Dino.
Love anything you want, share it, and you contribute for a better world.
I think I just found my dream car. This machine is just perfect. I need a friend like David. Wow, what a car.
I loved the styling of the Dino when I was a young man it was and still is, a beautiful car. Well done to this gentleman for a sympathetic update to this great car.
I need to win the lottery and buy this car. Royal blue exterior and bright red leather interior. Including by window sills and headliner. Such a beautiful and perfected car.
Mr. Lee is my favorite guest. His kindness to share his outstanding car collection staggers me. Their friendship and mutual interest is nice and real.
Jay has done much more for the auto industry than he ever did for late night tv.
Thank both of you for sharing with us. In a dreary world with problems on every hand you can sit down and enjoy the nice parts of life anytime you want.
Utterly beautiful design and a great mod also. Perfect combo!
i cant believe how nice the headlights look without a clip! its looks beautiful and flush while still looking classic. Might just look into them for my build maybe... hehehe
In the late 1980's, I opened a Car Shop with 2 partners and named our shop "Hot Red Exotics"! My Vision at that time was to create, Custom Ferrari Race Cars, High Performance Street Cars and Restore Rare Ferrari's and other Exotic Sports Cars.
At that time, there little to No aftermarket Ferrari Parts, except Michelotto of Italy...so we made everything in House! Our one off Hot Red Exotic Ferrari Race Cars, were one of the First Shops in N. America to Install Custom Fitted NASCAR Aluminum Calipers & Rotors, Michelotto Copied Sway Bars w/ Adjustable Heim Joints, Fully Adjustable Shocks, Racing Pedal Boxes/Proportioning Valves, 3.0 V8's Modified with Custom Velocity Stacks, Electronic Ignition and IMSA Exhaust Systems. Some of HRE's Race Cars were, (1) IMSA Spec. GT4 Race Car, (3) 308 GT4 Club Racers, and (1) 308 GTB/288 GTO look Club Racer.
HRE also, Restored a 1957 Mille Miglia Testa Rossa, which was Air Shipped from JFK to to Italy for the Running of the Vintage Mille Migllia, which was Sold after the Event. We also Restored a 1962 250 Pininfarina Cabriolet, and started the rough take down of a 1962 Ferrari GTO #3589. During the Paint Removal, Ines Ireland visited our Shop to inspect the GTO #3589 and to discuss/verify the originality of the aluminum body, etc.. The Original color of the GTO was found under the Windshield, rubber seal which was a Dark Blue, although the body had several coats of Red Paint. That confirmed, it was the original color used by RoseBud Racing, back in 1962. Which was consistent with Ferrari Race Cars that were Not Raced by the Ferrari Factory. They would be Painted the appropriate Racing Teams Colors, so as Not to confuse them with the Factory Cars.
Unfortunately, the owner of the '62 GTO sold the car for a reported $2.2 M, doubling his Investment, before we could Contract the Restoration Project!? in 1990, the cover of a Road & Track Magazine Cover displayed, the Restored Ferrari GTO #3589 with a New Ferrari Red 288 GTO for Track Comparison of the Old GTO vs the New. Ines Ireland was also featured, according to the Article, and it was stated that the GTO 3589 was in Parts, in Boxes in a "Shop in Upstate NY"? It went on too say, this caused the New Owner great concern, Not knowing if he had purchased a Complete Car? The Swiss Collector "The Steering Wheel", was noted as after receiving all the GTO 3589 Parts. Had her Restored, but Re-bodied because of the "extensive aluminum electrolysis" damage, along the entire lower half of the car. That was exactly what we discovered during our Paint Removal, and possibly the Real Reason, why the Owner we knew, decided to Sell 3589 vs Restore her!?
In the photos of "The Steering Wheel" showroom, is the Completely Restored Dark Blue GTO #3589, as well as the Original GTO's Aluminum Body...in the raw on Display...just as we had last saw her.
Although, we never had a chance to Modify a Dino 246, It was always one of my Favorite Body Styles, that certainly could have used a bit more HP! The Evo 3.6 Dino is a Fabulous Creation, and It certainly brings back memories of my shop, and the one I never did!?
Fantastic Work, on a Very Special Dino!
Steve Fabiano, H.R.E.
Pretty Cool man. In other news, I believe I just read the longest comment ever posted on this site.
David lee is my favorite guest because he knows everything about his cars and he drives them. He’s not one of those collectors that keep their cars in storage and never drives them
Take everything that has been created in Ferrari for 70 years and distill 4 times to create ... Essence of classic.
Respect man!
Just beautiful...even if not 100% original...the modifications just fit perfect for the Dino!
like removing the gas tank?
best dino I've ever seen
...seeno
I love when he has David Lee on.
I also want to see a compilation of all the times Jay cuts off the guest, mid sentence, by mashing the throttle lol!
Best Dino ever. Jay wants one, hope he gets a discount for the plug. Did anyone else laugh at David's expression when Jay said dinging the fender wouldn't be so bad 'cause its sheet metal not carbon? Smile gone. lol
Damn....that car is dead sexy! Black is the perfect color choice for it too. Amazing amazing car 10/10!
The fact the first thing you hear from David is his laugh, always makes me laugh as well. And wow, what a car. What. A. Car!
What a beautiful car. The work that was done was done so tastefully. If I win the lottery I want one.
Gorgeous car. Reminds me of a singer type Ferrari. Enhanced and refined but still keeping the original flavor. Incredible job.
Simply stunning, hats off to you David Lee .
David Lee is the quintessential gentleman...has the means to do what he wants, always with taste and to an extremely high level of perfection.
This guy's aesthetic sense is impeccable. This is the most beautiful Ferrari I've ever seen. And @ 2400# it's got 400 horse? Booya!
This is the most exciting and beautiful Ferrari I’ve ever seen.
Say what you will.. David has great taste in cars. Period
David has Fantastic taste in cars ,He is a clas act.
thats really "hard" when you are choosing from Ferraris? eye roll
Seriously he likes Ferraris lol how hard is that
He has good taste but he knows basically nothing about them that the average enthusiast wouldn't know. Every time he's on with one of his cars he adds nothing to to the conversation. I remember when he brought his F40 on the show and he couldn't answer any of the questions Jay had.
In its day the vehicle wanted to compete against the 911S. But when you drove over railroad tracks you knew the Porsche was better built unfortunately. The sexiest Ferrari ever in my opinion. I was blessed to have a 1970 911S which i had up to about 140 . The owner before me said he had it up to 159. Porsche there is no substitute. Remember we are talking about a 2.2 liter engine. This was my second Porsche in 1973.
David Lee, an example of success, tasteful and a good and humble guy. congrats!
Waau, made the most beautiful car perfect. Congratulations Lee and Jay. This was awesome as always. Love from deepdark Africa.
I love the job that has been carried out on this car. It is simply stunning. Work of art ! Great video.
That is absolutely gorgeous
David Lee is a humble car guy. Anyone who can patronize his stores should. I love his and Jay's collaborations.
WOW, I HAD A COUPLE, DINOS, AND ALWAYS LAMENTED THEY WERE SO UNDER POWERED. BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT AND NICE INSIDES TOO
Great update of a lovely, 'right-sized' classic! Thanks.
I can't imagine the wealth.
David Lee's real life Ferrari collection's worth just blows away my Hot Wheels collection.
And I got over 300 Hot Wheels.
Theres money in owning a bunch of sushi joints
@@placeholdername3206 he doesn't own sushi joints. Not sure if this was supposed to be a racist joke?
@@qrste81 Not trying to be racist. As far as I know he owns a chain of sushi restaurents, and jeweler stores

I loved David Lee's opportunity to make some money from his ambition to make the perfect classic Ferrari road car and be able to distribute this quality product to his friends and the public (and maybe only the limited Ferrari community that David earned his way into! ;) Just getting into a lot of car videos and Jay is fantastic. He covers a lot more than cars and brings people to the cars as best he can. His guests are always great but David Lee is my favorite. Great smile! He's Jay's straight man. :). Jay can let out more humor with him. Thank you Jay!
Apologies if I've already commented on this video but this is the most achingly beautiful car I have ever seen. Right up there with the Aston Martin Db5 and Ferrari 250 GTO
Fantastic build, David Lee. Great car guys show, Jay.
It's obvious that no expense was spared in this build......hopefully it gets driven and not locked away.....
Absolute sweetest restro Ferrari Ive ever seen. The perfect cruiser..
That thing is beyond words. Just perfect.
The kind of "restomod" that we would all love to have. Gorgeous car!
I always love when David Lee is on the show. Next to you, Jay, he's my favorite.
I think the Dino was the prettiest car ever even better than the E Type. And that F40 engine what a symphony……. A genius job.
