Far too often an artists music suffers when they get sober. I believe Ben's has not only endured, but has possibly gotten better. Kudos to him and Ashley for the hard work they have put in to make this awesome music for us to enjoy and relate to.
I was reading a retrospective about Townes van Zandt and at one point his first wife was talking about when he first started writing his own music in their closet. She talked about how he'd go into this closet and tinker away for hours a day until one day he came out, sat down and told her he finally wrote his first complete song with music. It was called "Waiting Around to Die." She was... disturbed.

Going to see Ben in 4 months. Most excited I’ve been for anything, mostly because I’m going to meet the man who saved my life. Thanks to you folks for putting this out there, and thanks to Ben for saving me from the barrel.
I watched him perform a while back and it was something magical. Seeing a man you look up to live in front of your very eyes. I hope you enjoy the show.
I can totally understand that Hoss, it is therapeutic listening to someone sing who has been in 'that' place, that dark and lonely place, I have never heard anything that hits me like he does. Tell him i said G'day would ya
What a song. One of his best. I love what he touches on with the acceptance of his own destructivity and selfishness, the "f-ck it" element of addiction, knowing that you're not a good person but finding it easier to just accept your fate. "Using Again" goes there too.
Always look forward to hearing anything by this man , not alot currently comes close to his music for me , personally. Enjoying from the UK , a beautiful song.
Lyrics i got so far. Can you give me all I need, the innocence and purity I crave I've been climbing desperately to a mountain top I haven't seen for days An honest life I simply can't sustain, coming home today And all that's left inside of me couldn't bring an heirloom seed to bloom I've only kept enough to plead for something that I can't believe is true And my goodbye may not when you choose, coming home soon Follow me through empty streets and bridges burned for hell to head my fate I never wanted you to see the evil I could never keep erased Impatient like a diamond in the slate, coming home late And something pulls me from the clay, I can't make another day alone And I cant even speak your name, are you just a thing to claim and hold Notarize my deed and watch me go, not coming home Notarize my deed and watch me go, not coming home

there is a sweet spot of focus between despair or distraction that yields good lyrics
Is he sober?
Proud of them, hope they continue to choose the right path. I can only imagine how hard it is. They are both strong.

I think about this all the time 😂
“I’m writing about someone else’s life” man that whole bit was the most accurate thing I’ve ever heard

I love that song❤ Benjamin Tod is underrated for sure I heard both and I like tones Van Zandt is awesome as well
One of the best song writers out there. Kentucky has something special in the water when it comes to music.
It’s called poverty.
Scots-Irish have a long history of song writing. But the one comment got it right, being poor will help you sing the blues.

Listening from Sydney, Australia. I hope he knows the words he sings are relevant worldwide. Story telling like no other.
God dammit, he does it once again.
Real awards that mean anything are in the hearts, and the souls of us out here hearing. Reckon there’s enough of us to fill a foyer or a pole barn.
He’s definitely progressing as a songwriter as a whole. Everything is getting better IMO. Damn good job, Tod.

Lightning Chased by Thunder
If I never fall in love again
Only deeper in love with you
It will be as natural as summer
Like lightning chased by thunder
Going deeper until I go under
If I never fall in love again
Only deeper in love with you

Fallen From Heaven
On the holy mountain of God
I walked among the stones of fire
Now I ensnare the sons of disobedience
I’m the Adversary, Accuser, and Liar
I was beautiful and splendorous
The wonder of all cherubim
The Day Star of Old that-
Angels dare not disesteem
There’s glamour in my dragon scales
I have the patience of a thousand ages-
The voice of desire refined seven times
The cruel cunning of a thousand sages
I’ll make a war in the heavens
Roaring like a challenging lion
I’ll raise a great horde on the land
And turn them loose upon Zion
I fear only the returning Dayspring
For my head He shall surely bruise
I’m ancient, but running out of time
I’m powerful, but destined to lose
