Honda Amaze 1.2 Comfort Test Review

  • The first generation of the Honda Amaze seen in SA was simply a booted version of the budget Brio hatchback. The new version launched recently has moved the game on in many ways.
Larger, more comfortable, better equipped yet still priced at the budget end of the market, the Amaze now has it's own identity in the Honda SA range.
Powered by a 1.2L 4 cylinder petrol engine with 66kW and 110Nm, it certainly is peppy enough for city commuting duty and will also cruise quite comfortably at the national speed limit on the open road as well.
The 5 speed manual gearbox in the test car is typically light and easy to use and this applies to all the controls in the car as has become standard on all modern cars. There is a CVT automatic version available if you require an automatic..........however, in this case, I found the manual to be my personal choice between the two.
Safety is taken care of with 2 airbags, and ABS braking with a fairly simple infotainment system that includes bluetooth. A feature of the Amaze is the very large boot giving around 360L of space.
Typically of Indian sourced vehicles, the interior features light colouring on the dash, door panels and upholstery. While this does make the car much lighter and brighter, I'm always concerned about the longevity of such light trim especially if the car is for family transport.
Overall fuel consumption for our test which included both commuting and an open road cruise was 6.1L/100km. I'm sure most owners will be able to achieve similar economy without much effort.
The test version is priced at R193 900 including a 2 year/ 30 000km service plan. There is also a lower spec Trend version with identical mechanicals priced at R179 900.

I love your reviews but audio is always of low quality. one has to maximise the volume to hear the perfect reviews.
