I have never had the ability to burp, its a rare condition called Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction. Many of the doctors I've seen don't understand this condition, some even chuckle and reply something like "have you tried something fizzy", or one doctor even said "no, that's impossible, you wouldn't function without burping". I just wanted to comment to raise awareness to this very rare condition. I suffer from many GI issues, and have been misdiagnosed with GERD, IBS, Dyspepsia, etc., as the symptoms very closely relate. I hope I can get this fixed soon... its been 22 years

Apparently because of the slow motility of the stomach and chronic aerophagia. I’m also really bloated and my belly is visibly distended. What does it mean when your burps have a sulfur rotten egg smell and sounds different from normal burps and is combustible or flammable I can tell one I'm burping if it is a normal burp because the burps that smell and I can light them on fire sounds completely different then a normal burp a normal birth to me would be after taking a sip of something carbonated that would be a normal burp the difference between the burps is the sound and the smell and I can light my burp on fire with a lighter. burping or farting have no gender - it sounds and smell and feels the same for both sexes. we just expect women to be more "ladylike" and keep everything in, even if it makes them uncomfortable...

I have the same problem. I sometimes choke in my sleep especially when there is a lot of gas in my stomach.
