Constantine is a 2005 American superhero horror film directed by Francis Lawrence in his directorial debut. Written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, it is based on DC Comics' Hellblazer comic book. The film stars Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, a cynical exorcist with the ability to perceive and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true form. Its cast also includes Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, and Peter Stormare.
Constantine was theatrically released in the United States on February 18, 2005. It grossed $230.9 million worldwide against a production budget between $70-100 million, but met with a mixed reception from film critics. In Mexico, a scavenger recovers the tip of the spear that pierced Jesus Christ from a ruined church and, after becoming possessed, takes it to Los Angeles. There, cynical occult expert John Constantine exorcises a demon from a young girl after witnessing its attempt to come through her to Earth, something that should be impossible because of a treaty between Heaven and Hell. Suffering from terminal lung cancer, Constantine meets with the half-breed angel Gabriel to request an extension to his life in exchange for his work deporting Hell's forces. Gabriel responds that performing good deeds for selfish reasons will not secure his way into Heaven.
Elsewhere, detective Angela Dodson is investigating the death of her twin sister Isabel who leapt from a psychiatric hospital roof. Angela refuses to believe her sister, a devout Catholic, would commit suicide, condemning her to Hell. Watching security footage, Angela hears Isabel say "Constantine", and seeks out his assistance. He refuses to help until he witnesses demons pursuing Angela and fends them off. He uses a ritual to see Isabel in Hell and confirms she killed herself. Constantine tells Angela that he committed suicide as a teenager because he was traumatized by seeing supernatural creatures and, though he was revived, when he dies he is condemned to Hell.

Would be cool if they work Gabriel (Tilda Swinton) back into it. As Gabriel is now human, the increase of age isn't an issue, and it could add some interesting introspective elements to the movie.
She playing her character (deal with copyright etc) from Dr. Strange would be a twist.

Imagine her as a junkie unable to take ordinary human pain. A wreck. Not able to die so instead wasting away to a degree that would kill any human. Still doing odd little good deeds to try to seek redemption but also willing to do harm to survive...she deserves a scene as good as Stormare got.

Omg! Constantine was the only movie of Keanu's that I could repeat word for word. I loved it so much! I'm a huge fan of his and I've watched his films repeatedly but for some reason that one just really got to me. I'm so excited!

Not only doesn't he mind it, he once said that was the sequel he wishes they would make happen and was actually pursuing it... I hope it turns out good and it ends up being 3-4 films with him as the lead.

I mean, he's not a good Constantine, and is playing a completely different character, so there is that.
Anybody reading any original stories would realise that the “movie version of Constantine” is so far from the northern working class hero come mage. The KR version makes a good movie, and I like it. But it’s completely different and the idea that there isn’t a different John Constantine with profound stories to tell is not reasonable.

I'd like for Shia to come back as well. He grew on me over the years, and he's definitely done a good job of becoming a great actor and overall person.
Wasn't he transformed into an angel for one of the ending cuts? It would be brilliant to have him back as Constantine's angelic guardian or something, especially since Shia is a devout Catholic IRL.
@@Charlotte_Martel bingo~ exactly why I'm 🤞 that he'll come back. I think his character also deserves retribution for the lack of action and end result. He'd be able to do more, and he'd be fulfilling the purpose he was hoping for. I'm also fine with any twists in the character for any sensible storyline/plot so long as it isn't too conflicting with what we already have built. I don't see why he wouldn't, but 🤷♀️ who knows
