- In this Video I wander around the various subway stations of Berlin, weaponed with my Leica M6 and a roll of Cinestill 800T. The lenses I use are the Voigtländer Super Wide Heliar 15mm f4.5 with the external viewfinder and the Voigtländer Color Skopar 35mm f2.5. My best friend Basti (who has nothing to do with photography) did most of the filming in this video - special shoutout and special thanks for that!
Film developed and scanned by Safelight Berlin (not sponsored - I wish though!).

Sold my kidney for 3 rolls of cinestill *pulls out Leica M6*
hahah, true 😂 that's were the second kidney went though
Better get the 4 rolls of Silbersalz35 500T for it.
@@alberte58 it's just as expensive as portra would be including processing and shipping
The colors, lights, halation - Perfect use of CineStill 800T!
Thank you, Dave! :)
“Do it for the art” ❤️ (2:35min my favourite). Overall great vibe and locations.
I had a feeling that this sentence would stick with you ⚡️ Thanks for your comment, T!
@@KarinMajoka At my age, even for art I can't get down on my knees without a waist level viewfinder! Andy
My thoughts? It was freaking awesome!! So many cool shots! Those red LED's with the Astra sign were soooooo sick. And the music was a great fit, too. Good vibes! Makes me want to sell my one kidney that I still have after buying two rolls of CineStill last year... :D
Should give it a try! 😖
Thanks so much for your comment Mr. must-be nice, really appreciate it ✌🏼Oh, so you have shot Cinestill before? How was your experience and how did you like it?
The last images of storefront with all the red lights were my favorite. Perfect use of the characteristic halations of Cinestill.
That is one of my favourites as well, thanks for your comment! The red halation of this film is really quite something.
I’ve never shot Cinestill, but if you’re looking to lessen the halations I’ve heard that a diffusion filter helps with that. I noticed that some of your photos had some starring at the light sources. In my experience / research this comes from shooting at the smaller apertures (f8-f16) and a diffusion filter will help get rid of the starring, too. I personally use a 1/4 diffusion filter.
Joseph Stitt I never saw the light stars as something to get rid of since I often enjoyed the look of those. However, the idea to use a diffusing filter is pretty cool indeed, I was thinking to get a black pro mist filter at one point to diffuse the light and get a more vintage look in some situations. They are unfortunately pretty expensive, but in case I will get one I will for sure also try it out on a future roll of cinestill. Thanks!
This video is great. Not too slow, great music
This video is so Genuine and so much more then just a review. Everything about it: your pictures , music and video editing. It's like looking A movie! Thanks for posting this!
I watched this video months ago, and now, after shooting some film, I see it with new eyes. Great stuff, Karim. Lovely pictures and amazing vibes! Keep it up :D
and with "new eyes", i mean, I've also been experiencing the horrible situation in which you are not on bulb mode when shooting during the night, and also carrying out a tripod everywhere, haha. Unfortunately, I haven't had the joy of taking pictures that are as good as yours...
Literally just discovered your channel, already binging through your videos! awesome awesome awesome!. favourite shot is either the scooter, or the beautiful domed ceiling shot
‘Berlin Got Blurry’ - Parquet Courts.
Awesome shots Karin! Do it for the art, I love it! Great use of cinestill, your video makes me miss getting lost in Berlin…subways, music, the food, and beautiful people. Can’t wait to go back. Just subscribed. Cheers from Los Angeles!
Großartige Arbeit....tolle Aufnahmen auf den Bahnhöfen...👏🏻👍🏻
Danke dir Patrick! :)
The vibes, the mood! Amazing.
Thanks a lot ⚡️
Great job, very good control of the light. I'm loving the way you are planning your photography.
These are some of my favorite shots I'm seen on Cinestill, & I've been watching a lot of videos because I just picked up 2 rolls of it. Very well done!
Thanks so much for your kind message, I appreciate it a lot! Have fun shooting your rolls of cinestill, I am sure you will enjoy it! :)
Berlin and photography! This video was amazing, I love how you broke down the shooting techniques as well
Thank you! ⚡️
Awesome video, loved being introduced to this new place and I love subway stations. Great shots too, cool style tilting the camera upwards for lots of them.
Thank you, I appreciate it a lot! And I also cannot wait to visit Berlin again and explore some more are places like these ones.
Your photographs are stunning. The combination of Cinestill 800t and the Leica M6 worked very well. It was also lovely to see many familiar places in Berlin! I did a photo walk there with my Leica M9 just over a year ago, and another one with my Fuji X100 in December. It is a beautiful city to photograph. Thanks for the great video and beautiful pictures.
Thanks for your nice comment, I appreciate it! Berlin is a lovely place to photograph, so many interesting spots and people. Hope I can go back some time soon :)
I discovered your channel when I was researching medium format film cameras but I subscribed because you are an excellent photographer. These are beautiful images and your choice of film definitely complimented the subject! Great work and I look forward to watching all of your videos.
Then firstly: hello and welcome! :) Thanks so much for your kind words, I appreciate it.
I've always loved super wides & I really like Cine Still 800T @500. Gorgeous Images Karin. Thank you for posting this--I know it was a boatload of work for you & for Basti.
Thank you so much, I appreciate it. :)
Great series! love the colour rendering of CineStill and the mood you captured with the wide lens. Favourite one at 5:19.
Thanks four your comment Guilherme! It's so interesting to see how everybody has a different favourite image, seems like it differs quite a lot. ⚡️
Wonderful video as always Karin! Great soundtrack too!
Finding fitting music is sometimes one of the hardest parts for me, so I am glad that this one seemed to work out. Thanks for your comment, Tim! ⚡️
Just watched this one and Berlin POV and they're such wonderful videos! I really love your style.
As for the cinestill + wide-angle, it's perfect. That shot at 2:35 is just incredible.
Hey Norbi, thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the videos you have watched so far. :)
Really enjoyed watching this video and those photographs are stunning :)
thanks a lot! :)
Karin, I am loving these available light shots you made with your Leica M6 of the Berlin subway. The lighting is soft and the colors in the station area give a relaxing and slightly mysterious mood to the pictures. You motivated me to get a more portable & easily collapsible tripod in the process.
You timed the photo shoot well when commuter. traffic is less which gave you more opportunity to get the station into the shot vs people's heads. You concentrate and care about your craft, and you do not rush your shots which is great. Must be summer when you did these because your attire is light and are not encumbered by heavy coats--a win. Good job. Even w a mask I can see your smile. 🙂🙂
That is such a heartwarming comment, thank you so much, Norman! I am really tiny and cannot carry so much weight on my back for a long time, so I also really appreciate a rather lightweight setup like this one. I hope to visit Berlin again next month or the month after and I will make sure to pack some more rolls of Cinestill for the trip. Stay creative and have fun shooting! :)
Glorious film and gorgeous shots ! well done !
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it :)
Karin, I love your work and your aesthetic. I can't pick a favorite shot, they are all favorites. You have inspired me to try Cinestill. Reciprocity be damned! Fantastic video! Andy
Cinestill is a fantastic film and I cannot wait to shoot the last roll I still have in my fridge. Have fun trying this film out! :)
Great video and some beautiful and creative photos. Very impressive.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! ⚡️
Another great movie ♥️
thank you :)
Hello Karin, I just found your channel. I really enjoyed this video, great work! These photos are absolutely beautiful, my favorite it @ 2:34.
Really nice collection 😊
A lot of skils and creativity. Everything is perfect the composition, the tone, and yes the perspective of you.
thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate it!
I only have one roll of Cinestill and I can't wait to try it out. So keen after watching this, great video!
Thank you! I am sure you will enjoy this film - have fun shooting and stay safe. :)
Also danke dir. :)
Wow! Amazing shots. Probably the best Cinestill 800T gallery I've seen on CZcams. My favourites are 3:00 and 3:12. Would love to see more Cinestill related videos from you 😍
Thanks so much for your kind words, I truly appreciate it! I still have a roll of Cinestill in my fridge and some other rebranded Kodak Vision 3 500T without the remjet layer - so I am sure there will come some more, just not sure when :)
Amazing work in this one. Really beautiful shots.
Thank you, I appreciate it. :)
Die Farben sind ja Mega - sehr schön.
Cinestill ist da tatsächlich sehr einzigartig und verantwortlich für diese "Halo"-Effekte. Danke! :)
Beautifull 😍 i like subway images, and the wide angle lens worked perfectly 👍
thanks! I think ultra wide angle lenses are sometimes not as versatile, glad that it worked well in this context :)
Excellent work. Interestingly I had been debating about getting this stock all this week, so this was a perfectly timely video and I just placed an order for 5 rolls. Also, not related to the photography element, really really appreciate you wearing a mask in the video. Inconvenient but responsible and so happy to see it.
You will not regret that decision. Cinestill is not a cheap film for sure, but with all of the three rolls I have shot so far I felt like they were worth every penny. Would be interesting to hear about your experiences after you shot it. And: thank you! Even though it is mandatory in Germany to wear a mask in closed spaces such as the train, a lot of people to not follow the rule. It was uncomfy but for me this is not a reason at all not to put it on.
Great photos.
Makes me want to take the train in Los Angeles at night.
Also loved that beat up lens.
LA must be a great place for night photography, have fun shooting! And thanks a lot for your comment. :)
Just caught up with this one. Fantastic images and compositions.
Beautiful photos and angles.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! ⚡️
Super nice foto’s. Well done!
Thanks for your comment! :)
Great video, Karin, and the images were awesome!I always find your videos informative and helpful. I have a roll of Cinestill 800T waiting in the fridge for an opportunity - but no subways in my town. ;-)
Hey Steve, thanks a lot for your comment, really appreciate it! Hope you will find something else in your town that‘s interesting enough for this precious film - or maybe an opportunity in another town that’s worth saving this film up for. Either way, have fun shooting! :)
Uuugghh! Great work. Happy I found this video on your channel. Great music to match too. I recently shot a roll of cinestill here in Japan and the results were quite nice. I will share in a vlog in the future. :) Your channel is becoming a quick top 10 for me.
Thanks a lot Alex, I appreciate it! I saw that you are currently piling up videos to have some backlog before continuing to post again, right? That’s pretty clever, I should do that one day as well, since it’s sometimes a struggle to finish videos in time haha. But anyway, I wanted to say that I look forward to the video on your roll of Cinestill! :)
this is awesome!! cant even pick which frame is my favorite. great shots!
Thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it ⚡️
Damn Karin I just discovered your channel, watched 3 vids and you're already one of my favourite photographer ever.
And once again: thanks so much for the support and kind words ☺️✌🏼
🙌 Very nice, love the shots with the round light's 💯👀
Danke danke Mr. eastblockboy ✌🏼
Nice shots! Such a cool place I would love to photograph someday. Those stations have such ornate interiors. I like how a lot of the images have a dual balance between ceiling and open space. It really accentuates the interesting lights. Good choice on the wide lens!
Thanks for your elaborate comment Andrew, I appreciate it! I found it rather difficult to compose with such a wide lens, therefore I am glad that the balance between ceiling and open space was not too far off. I bet the subway stations in Japan have a lot to offer as well though?
@@KarinMajoka The stations in Tokyo can be very interesting and I love a lot of the left over 80's and 90's angular but sometimes playful design. That said a lot of stations are getting renovation or have been under construction for the last few years and can become a little bit bland in my opinion.
absolutely amazing shoots. I liked the one with the very yellow subway train the most (at about 3:14). But they all stand out. Makes me want to just go out and take some photos immediately.
I love comments like this - if there's only one person on this planet that feels inspires to grab their camera and go out to shoot because of my videos there is nothing more I could wish for. So thanks, this means a lot, I hope you will catch something good ⚡️
That lens is amazing! Beautiful pictures. =)
Daniel Montenegro thank you, I am also pretty happy with it, since it’s wide, yet not too distorted.
At last! Been looking forward to this one. I really enjoy the shots with the ultrawide including the big ceiling lights. The wide Heliar lenses are some of the first ones I lusted after but for some reason I never got one...
Danke, Phil! :) The one I have is an older version, which means that the viewfinder is not coupled but you have to focus by distance. Since it's such a wide lens most of the distances are sharp anyway, but not everybody might like the guesswork when focusing. The newer versions have a coupled viewfinder if I am not mistaken but are bigger, heavier and also more expensive.
Loved this Karin, there were few favourites but if I had to chose one it would be the first train shot. I love the results of cinestill and I want to shoot a role photographing all the signs some day with it.
Thank you, I appreciate it! ⚡️ Cinestill is such a fun film and that sounds like a cool little project :)
My favourite was with the train pulling into the left. The wide angle was amazing and I love the green hew it gave the tiles
Thanks Phil! I do also love how Cinestill renders, the tint is pretty unique to this film and always a bit of a surprise.
This was great! It's not easy composing with such a wide-angle, but this all came together really nicely
Thanks Hashem, I really appreciate your comment! That's true, just the lightest offset of the horizon looks pretty skewed with such a wide lens. But it was a lot of fun to try to compose differently with this one.
Very nice video and the music that was chosen is perfect.
Thank you, I appreciate it! ⚡️
love love LOVE these
thank you ⚡️
I love this! This is exactly what I'm thinking of using this film for 😍
Cool! Have fun shooting and stay safe ⚡️
Wow....wonderfully taken... I like them very much :)
thank you, Franklin :)
please make another one of these, this is one my favorite videos. Berlin subway on cinestill800T Pt. 2
Such awesome photos!
thank you ⚡️
Awesome photos!
Thank you! :)
Klasse Video und fabelhafte Bilder 👌
Dankeschön! :)
Lovely video, very chill and smooth. That wide angle lens gave all the photos a very cool odd effect. Almost like a skewed "dutch angle" type of useage in the filmmaking world. It would be interesting to see subjects with this lens. Looking forward to see some proper street with it :)
As always - thanks a lot Jae! Now that you mentioned it, it also reminds me of the dutch angle shot, haven't thought about it before. About that wide angle for street: I'll try it out for some street action probably this week and hope I can share some results. I think it will be a pain to get that close but also interesting. And I think with my next roll of Cinestill I will focus more on subjects and people as well. :)
You did a really good job with this video and you got a lot of good shots out of cinestill !!
Thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate it! :)
I love both 👍👍👍👍⭐️
Super gemacht! Thanks for sharing!
Danke a lot ✌🏼
love these!
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
Sehr cooles Video! Die Farben von Cinestill passen einfach perfekt auf deine Fotos! :)
Tobias Gmeiner danke dir, Tobias! ⚡️
Deine Videos und Fotos sind so toll 😍😍.
Danke dir ⚡️✌🏼
Great photos and very useful guide to using this film. When I come back to Berlin I’m going to try this - see what my 25mm Zeiss can do down there.
Thanks for your comment! I am sure 25mm is also a pretty nice focal length to take photos of subway stations.
Great shots and a cool vibe. The colors in the shot at 2:20 are magical.
Thanks for your comment Markus! This was one of the shots that turned out nicer than I anticipated it would. :)
Very nice. Cinestill worked very well in that setting. The forest mural on the wall reminded me a bit of the South Ferry station in NYC. Haven't ridden the subway to the office since late February at this point.
I love those train station interiors that are more on the creative side, this fluorescent blue forest is a pretty cool juxtaposition. Wow, that's been a long time, what crazy times we live in. I hope you are your family are alright and healthy.
That last shot was fire!
That intro with the sound of the subway gave me so much nostalgia of NYC or any city downtown area 😫
Your pictures were great, it makes me want to sell a kidney for cinestill and sell my soul for a Leica! Awesome video 👍👍
Also, I wish I had a cameraman like Basti lol
Thanks Diego ✌🏼 Peew, good that you don't need a kidney neither a soul to still take photos, otherwise I would be bummed. Oh and no problem, I can rent him out to you, all he needs is good food and bad jokes.
Many cool shots, keep on shooting
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it ⚡️
My favorite is defiantly the shot at 2:30. The way the circle lines of the ceiling meet with the lights and the lights kinda close the circle is nice!
Thank for your comment Chris, I really appreciate it! And I am on your page, I have to say that this was my favourite shot of the roll as well. ⚡️
Excellent. Really enjoyed it. Wish I was along for the ride.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! :)
I love your videos :) glad I found your channel
Thank you Aly. ⚡️😊
Love this video. I've been trying to get some Cinestill but am out of kidneys. Really like tha shot at the end withe the headlight streaks.
I wonder what I will do after getting another 3 rolls and having no kidney left. Any other organs they will take as payment? Jokes aside - thanks a lot for your comment ⚡️
That kidney was worth it. My favourite set of images you’ve shot. I wish I could use a tri-pod on the London Underground but you get chucked out
Thanks, Madison! ⚡️ Oh, that’s unfortunate, the London Underground must be pretty nice for Cinestill as well. I don’t even know how the rules in Germany are, but at least late at night there is nobody to through you out 😬
I love your photos and the wide-angle lens. Combined with Cinestill 800T it looks instantly cinematic and I adore that look and vibe.
Thanks for the kind words, this means a lot! I feel like cinestill itself is just so cinematic, everything you shoot on this stock just looks like a film still.
BTW the cheapest way to shoot Cinestill or the original film stock Kodak Vision3 is Silbersalz35. It’s a German movie production company that offer Kodak Vision3 for 35mm photo cameras+true Cine ECN-2 development+high res scans all for a price that’s about 4 rolls of cinestill without development (60€). Check them out, you might like it if you havent heard of them. I plan to get my first rolls for Fall/Winter season :)
I chuckled at the kidney for CineStill 800T comment. It was worth it. Your photos of the subway were wonderful.
Thanks Andy, really appreciate your comment! Loosing one kidney was for sure worth it haha
Jokes aside... one trick I do while metering for night with an external light meter is putting the meter really near to the position f the lens, that trick Is used for large format but it is useful also for smaller format, otherwise, great video! I am more in love with Cinestill 800t now!
What exactly do you mean with near to the position of the lens? On many of these shots I did incident metering with an external light meter
Those beautiful shots were definitely worth a kidney!
I quickly recovered after getting my scans back from the lab, so it was worth it I would say
Karin, the more I look at these Berlin subway photos taken with Cinestill film the more enchanted I get. I have not used Cinestill film but find the pictures to be like using a very fast color reversal film. I still use Fuji Provia F slide film (love the detail and color of reversal film) and may try Cinestill at some point. Shooting at night where there are lit cafes, shops and bookstores would be ideal--if only the normal night life would return here in California. Your shots were marvelous and you looked so cute in that video too. Regards.
You have my respect for shooting slide film in challenging conditions such as at night. I love shopping slide film from time to time (Provia and Velvia are my favourites), but definitely feel a bit nervous due to the fact that it does not handle over- or underexposure well, so it's even more important to get the metering spot on.
Love the shots! I really like the greenish cast in contrast to the warm lights. I have a terrible habit of forgetting to change my ISO at the beginning of rolls. Also, that is a really beautiful subway.
Oh yes, that’s something that happens to me quite a lot too, glad I am not the only one. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Jamie! :)
@@KarinMajoka You're welcome! Your videos and photography are great.
Hello... I know this is a 2 y.o. video, it is so good, Congratulations for your work. I am mexican and I live in Mexico City. Over here, it is so forbidden to make photos in the subway system. If I do that I can be in a lot of trouble. ¡¡¡So nice work you do!!!
This is easily one of my fav channels now!
thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! ⚡️
Wow sick shots
thank you ⚡️
I love Berlin. Great night scenes. Any of the shots is great.
I never tried to shoot at night . Something to do in the future.
Thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate it! Night photography is loads of fun, hope you get to try it someday in the future. :)
Love this episode!
thanks you ⚡️
Amazing images!
thank you ⚡️
Great video and really cool shots. I have one roll of Cine Still 800T at home here as well that I'll begin shooting soon, though I am inexperienced with film (but not digital) so it'll be interesting for sure! Also, great job by your friend, it's better filmed than many experienced youtubers!
/Rasmus
I‘ll pass the compliment on to him, I also think he did a phenomenal job (I wish I could have him around more often as a cameraman haha). And thanks for taking your time to comment, have fun shooting that roll of Cinestill! ☺️
I specially dig the red Astra one and the inner boutique one just after !
Cestbibi thank you, I appreciate it! These were not my favorites from the start, but I think I am growing on them :)
Love how that film does lighting. Effects you can only get with film.
At least only with that sort of cinema film with the remjet layer removed. Thanks for your comment. :)
Großartig!
dankeschön! :)
Great video, i just buy my first two rolls of Cinestill 800T and im looking forward to try it on my Mamiya 645!
Have fun with your first rolls! :)
Nice video! I also use Voigtlander lenses. 21mmf4 is my favorite)) keep doing your videos!
21mm seems like a pretty interesting focal length, since 15mm can quickly look a bit „too much“ or too distorted/wide. Thanks for your comment, really appreciate it! :)
Sick photos!
Thanks, I appreciate your comment!⚡️
