I’m confused. Watched the whole video and still no clue on what to use besides a studio mic.
Use a studio mic and move it out the frame 🤷🏾♀️, that’s what I do
Sorry Mark, that was like listening to someone telling a long joke in a pub who wanders off without telling you the punchline. While you got your point across, we are all left wondering, 'what the hell does he recommend then, just the internal mic on the Mac or PC?'
Exactly my thoughts. The reason why I watched till the end 😭
Rode nt5 with cardioid capsule via zoom h5 via usb no external power needed. Not cheap but can hide mic off screen and can talk normally unlike the example used. I have used this setup and variations thereof for over a year.
He didn’t say or link to the mic he used--?
Oh the Nuemann U87 glowing, appearing like God in Monty Python’s “Holy Grail” … precious.
Mark, I came into this video expecting to hear your thoughts on the best microphone, not to first hear about the type you despise and then be referred to another video where the promise in the title is implied to be at. This behavior, the petty marketing and tactics used to generate internet traffic, may have been useful in the past, but they are now obsolete. Nowadays, the CZcams algorithm is the king and where the actual size of the traffic is contained, and because this is the fact, there is no reason really to risk losing the viewer by doing anything less than ideal, like deliberately trying to frustrate them.
Mark I agree with all that you say in this video. I think you have very valid points, and you easily have the look of a gentleman with wit. But please don't continue on this course of demeanor and make me doubt the latter.
So, what mic are you utilising in this video, as your favourite?
What was , the Mic 🎤 he (sort of recommend 🤔
electro voice re50b
wait so what type of mic are you using?
The importance of sound quality comes from its impact on emotion. As directors in Hollywood say, "The eyes go to the mind and the ears go to the heart." Good directors know that sound is far more important than the visual.
Call me late to the game Mark, it May of /24. That mic is a boundary that put space between you and those watching you, especially on Zoom. Remove the boundary and decreases the level of virtual separation.
Great take on it.
I don’t even care about microphones, but I love watching Mark’s stuff. This was hilarious!
This is an absolute riot, Mark! I'm a professional voice talent and I sure do get that when you're behind a studio condenser mic, well, let's just say that the game really changes, as you so brilliantly and humorously demonstrated! Yes, it's much better for you to be able to move and gesture and be yourself when on camera, I quite agree! BTW, if you don't want the angelic U87 anymore, I'll take it off your hands! 😆 Oh and I never knew you did voiceovers, how cool is that? 🎙
I love this! Love your vids. Very calming.
Now that was useful. As a studio owner who records both music and narration AND as a former radio host & podcaster who grapples with mic choice issues, you've hit the nail on the head for me! Add onto that, a little case of "spasmodic dysphonia" that I seem to have developed ... and tried to cure by using sensitive studio mics and many, many retakes! Wow, I could go on and on about this topic. I think it's fascinating and your angle on it brings me to a new point of clarity. Thanks, Mark. I think you're swell xo
So true, completely agree. Thx for saying so.
Thank you, Mark.
hang on... read the video title... where are the mics for zoom?
I remember you from your 4-way Randy Jade Lew vs. Garrett Adelstein J4o poker "cheating" video analysis, from 2022. Two or three of your group nailed her body language, imho: She was being (predominantly, by far) forthright in her words and movements. Can't remember YOUR specific take, but I'm guessing it was on point. Anyhoo....
Appreciate your appreciation for sound, here. And your insightful explanation in this vid as to why human beings place such importance upon it. Also, great meta breakdown, here, as to the trade-offs between audio quality (via desk mic) and overall communication quality (via boom mic). Here looking to learn to do great sales presentations via Zoom. Cheers!
Thanks! It’s a huge help😊
No problem!
WTF was this video about? there is no link to what microphone you are using Mark?
nice one, Mark, that is a goodun!
Cheers, Den!
"BIG, BEAUTIFUL, AND FRUITY." lol Thank you for the advice. I will do as you reccomemded.
🙈🤣🤣🤣
Love you, Precious
This is so 👍 good!
Great video so true! I laughed at the "precious about the mic"
Boy, he is right on!
Love this! Your microphone, and ALL your video equipment needs to compliment YOU. If your microphone is drawing attention to itself, or it's doing something to pull away your character, then that piece of equipment isn't for you!
Such an excellent video!!!
Think about watching music videos the picture quality changes alot but the sound quality is constant :)
Thank you so much for this video. This is exactly what I needed to hear!
Mark, with all due respect, but are you H G Tudor?
6:58 Speaking of which: the background with the books and ads is extremely distracting. Not only are the colors eating each other and popping like crazy, the text also creates insane visual noise. Makes it very uncomfortable to listen and focus when my eyes keep wandering to from ad to book and back. Instead I blend out the video entirely.
I like Mark's background. I'm ok with all the colors. Huge bonus points for all Hawaiian items, especially the Hawaiian applique pillows. I find the room seductive and would love to spend a snowy afternoon going through that pile of books. Just need a pot of tea to complete the picture.
Interesting take. I find the background friendly and familiar (as in, it looks like a room I’d have). It makes
Me feel Like Mark is an approachable guy. Also, he reads, so he’s constantly learning and is likely to have new info for me often.
Right there with ya on the chocolate. Now if only I could find a mic my dog couldn't talk over.
This was so much fun watching! LOL Thanks Mark
My pleasure!!
It’s your animation that I tune in for. I recorded a talk once, but I was in mid Michigan talking on a “huge” mic, but it was recording in Chicago….without my face, thank goodness.
Time to put away my studio mics! Although I use them to record music, they are a bit over the top for another chocolate w/ disliker. Love your Behavior Panels.
U are a really adorable Hamster 🐹.
Great thought with the interactive aspect of mics.
P. S. If you want to have a better and nearer sound then a lav mic or a shotgun Night be a viable option. (But i guess you are well informiere already) 🤔
Just get a pencil condenser mic and add some compression and you'll be fine.
Love this. Sooo helpful!
not level matching the different mics is making your point much less convincing
Shoot, I'm really precious about audio 🤣. Appreciate you MB 🙏🏼
Love how expressive you get. LOL directors...here’s a guy with acting in his career. LOL
Mark, for a moment I thought you transformed into Jesus.
Your videos crack me up! 🤣
Thanks 🎙️💕🎙️
Hard agree, musical theatre is genuinely terrifying.
You come across as very inauthentic because you simply miss the point that you can (a) put the mic further away, (b) turn it down, (c) cut the low - some mics even have a switch. Hide the mic ... I have used a not so expensive samson for meetings and people can simply hear me even if I walk around or turn my head. So ... as a muso, engineer, IT guy from like 30 years+ .... However, psychologically and the way people show off or put the mic in the scene ... good points. People can get all ASMR and mess up.
I was with you at first, getting excited to hear what you have to say about choosing the best mic for the use, but you lost me dude. What's the answer? You'd be great at parties no doubt but I must go check out someone else's video to find the answer I'm looking for.
Mark you are a breath of fresh air...🤩
Man I'd love to hear you just talk about applying Jungian ideas to everyday life for a while. I really hope you get the desire to start putting out longer-form content! I'm so excited every time I see you have an upload, and then, honestly, a little disappointed about the shortness of the videos.
Thanks again for another great video, though! We love ya!
3:35 Yes and no, Mark. People can tolerate poor video quality, to an extent, but listening to poor audio is nigh on impossible; people hate it.
yah, they are overkill. As a viewer, I feel that ppl use them as a security blanket. It puts a wall between the video maker and audience.
Yah, I hate not hearing what the person is saying clearly; that's why my pet peeve is music in spoken videos.
But the big mics are annoying. And now I know why they bore me.
I completely agree,Mark. So many times I stumble upon a Title of the video, you know, interesting and catchy one just to find some extreeeemely "precious" blah blah presented through one of em fancy microphones.Annoying!!Love your style!
Glad you enjoyed it
@Fast Alpha its not a link, just wrong interpunction I guess
Lol so true
I disagree with the entire premise. Over half the people in any random Teams call have their video feed inactivated and are using a laptop omni microphone that sounds terrible due to the environmental noise. The whole point of the meetings is communication! I use a handheld live performance mic and it doesn’t obstruct anything. If someone accuses me of being overly precious, they can go F themselves!
well if you are going to just make a zoom call, then the laptop mic or your average headset like a sony headset of 25 usd or apple earbuds (wired 3.5 mm TRRS) are more than enough, I got quadcast and macbook pro's mic is better than the quadcast. so for zoom calls any mic is good enough.
now, I've been having zoom/meet calls for years and in my industry most people like to turn their camera off.
also if you wanna have the camera and be lively then you can be with pencil microphones hold in a boom arm, you won't see it in the frame and they will pic up stuff, there is a russian brand that has become famous because it works perfectly with an average room without sound treatment. also the samson c02 are great for this.
also, your video is passionate however I see one mistake, the entire argument, you point basically is "because I have developed these habits you will have too, so don't do this" to me this is just anecdotical evidence. And in the end of the day we all have to try what it works for us.
#Jockowillink + black n’ white downlighting to show those obscurely square cheeks. Looks like statue of David’s first draft 😂 shout out Donatello!
No nuts? Tell me it ain't so, Joe!
You hate musical theatre clearly you've not seen Taxi Driver the musical.
Who the F**k you looking at ? Bang Bang ! 🤣 (After Life 3)
You're just noch able to set up your Mic correctly lol....
You are joking and killed our time 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Really good points.
I don’t like your framing/composition.
