- Let's unbox and review the Steelseries Apex 3 TKL Gaming Keyboard! This keyboard doesn't have mechanical switches and instead uses a membrane design that gives keypresses a soft and mushy feel with a tactile bump while being whisper quiet. For a budget gaming keyboard, the Apex 3 TKL is a solid performer and is worth considering.

Excellent review! Just bought this today, I'm a casual gamer & mainly use a controller, so I didn't need something top of the line. I like the smaller form factor, looks great, sounds great, easy and comfortable to type on. If you're not coming from something 3-4 times the price you'll enjoy it. I have to agree with others though, would have REALLY liked a wireless version or USB-C/wireless.
This is a fantastic review. You have a shrewd, analytical mind.
This is a great tech review channel, it's a shame the algorithm prioritizes overdone jokes over genuinely good, lesser known channels.
I really appreciate your channel. Thanks for your hard work.
I appreciate that!
Great Video, good insight and helpful. Liked!
im deffo gonna purchase this!
Excelent review good work
Thank you for the great insight into this keyboard :D
Glad it was helpful!
@@ECPUz Ended up buying it and have been using it for a month. It works excellent!
Tbh, just got this keyboard mainly for fortnite and over watch, and it’s great. It work’s absolutely fine. I have no problem that holds be back from improving
I have the Apex pro for gaming and got the razer blackwidow lite for work. If they did the TKL apex 3 as wireless with usb c wired option i'd get it in a heartbeat
i love this keyboard so much
I am using this keyboard and it actually in person sounds very deep sound and it is overall a amazing keyboard i switched from my redragon tkl and i honestly like this one more and i has more functions that the redragon so it is a great keyboard for the price and one of the best membrane out in the market
Good vidd 💯
Great video bro
Appreciate it
finally a non mechanical TKL keyboard! yesssss
nice video man
Glad you enjoyed!
i have this keybored in my hands rn and my new is the apes pro tkl 2023 so ye
Thanks man.
very cool Video I love it!
Thanks!
Bought the keyboard before actually seeing this video and i must say that it is amazing. It's my first keyboard.
Jesus, how don’t you have more subscribers?
I am looking for a non-mechanic tkl keyboard for typing and this sounds the best. Question: apex 3 tkl doesn't come with palm rest and I would need one as I type for long hours. will palm rest of apex 7 tkl fit this, not sure why steelseries website says apex 7 palm rest wont fit other models (bottom end of both keyboards look same in pictures, perhaps apex 3 tkl bottom end is not magnetic)? Appreciate your response.
This review was amazing, overall I think this might be a better purchase than a 20 dollar mechanical simply because this is a well respected and trusted brand that knows what they're doing, I could be wrong, if so correct me But thanks for this review, great work keep it up
u are right
as someone who has gamed on a cheap $40 mechanical keyboard for years, buying this keyboard felt like a huge upgrade.
I'm coming from the flat keyboards like the Mac and Logitech. How do people find typing when your wrists are basically on an angle? Do you need a rest for them??
Bought it - Love it 👌 All I ever used in the 90's was those Mechanical noisy clacking things - yeah these younger gamers think they're something new and amazing - guess what , they're not, just a throwback from the past with a sprinkle of RGB & fancy names for switches 🤣 250 for a keyboard - the marketing department is doing well 🤑🤑
Mechanical keyboards last longer and are a lot more durable and remain consistent, they feel better to type on, and they sound better.
have you ever heard of custom mechanical keyboards?
Is It normal that some keys like W R T have like stranger sound different from others while pressing its like bump but louder than others
Can you remove the keycaps off of the keyboard to clean it? I know he did it here but on google it says not to. I’m very confused…?
I'm using the apex 3 to type this now, and its perfectly fine,=. It sounds super good and I already did like 50-60 typing tests on my first day on getting this keyboard. I definetly think its worth buying but if the steel series engine, I wanted to add the reactive effects, which is not avilable on this keyboard. But overall its good for its proce, not over top of the line but in the good category
I need a silent keyboard ... now I have a blue cherry MX keyboard and it's a nightmare, I always wake up my daughter at night. from your video it seems truly silent
Edit: i buy this keyboard...very very quiet... PERFECT 👌
Is it a problem that it is slower?
@@liva8522 It's as fast as you can press the keys 🙈
How is the keyboard like a year later?
@@Arthur_Martins is a good cheap silent keyboard, man 👌🍺
I love this Keyboard I have the 100% version. I use it for work and play. It does not dissapoint
Bro i use this last night and it was crazy how i killed 37/7 on valorant the accuracy of the movement stop is insane also the touch feels is soo smooth and on sync to my fingers
Rank?
i would use it even tho it is membrane it sounds very good and smooth i am tryping this on it right now
lol
it's a nice lil' keyboard :)
Great review, I got this about 5 weeks ago, and I am not going to keep it. But it is not because of the feel for typing, it is good enough for office work and casual gaming. The reason why I am looking for something else is the caps lock light. Yes, I know, it sounds petty, but it is hidden under the insert key and I have to lean all the way over the keyboard to notice it. I also find the angles on the desk odd, the height at the front is awkward and the key edges are sharp and hurt my hands after a full day of typing / gaming.
what have you bought as a result?
@@dmastery3275 I settled on a low profile Keychron K3 Pro. I have been using it now for the better half of a month, but I am still looking for that special TKL keyboard. I kept the Apex as well, it is always good to have some spare keyboards.
Very nice review. I currently have a Corsair K70 Mechanical Gaming keyboard which I love...but I share an area with my wife and now infant grandkids and the steady click of the cherry mx red switches has to go. So I've been searching for a membrane keyboard to use in the meantime until noise no longer is an issue and this sounds like a good compromise. Thanks.
just buy an keyboard with cherry silent reds and you are golden!
hey, i was also in a very similar predicament. I had a corsair k70 mk.2 rgb board but the space bar fucked up on it and i wasn't able to resolder it. Not wanting to shed out another $200 on a new board, i went for this which i ended up picking up for only $20 with a steelseries mousemat.. and honestly (and i can't believe i'm saying this) but i actually prefer the apex 3 to my $200 corsair... something about it. it's clean, minimalistic and really doesn't feel like a membrane keyboard at all! it really is a great board.
Any way to cycle the preset keys? Cannot find it anywhere and dont want that bloatware software running just to stop the annoying rainbow sick colour change?
I have the same keyboard and have sound problems so I have questions for it so if you know how to fix it then please tell me I have found no helpful tutorials
Bought it last week and so far, i like it better then i liked my Corsair K65. I've been called crazy but I'm not a hardcore gamer so i don't need anything fancy.
Question, do you know why or how to trouble shoot FPS drop in games after using this keyboard? I just got it and like it a lot, but it's made my FPS drop. Need some help, anyone.
Дякую за огляд, скоріш за все куплю її)
not a big fan of membrane, im more of a mechanical guy. i bought it because its cheap and i needed a smaller keyboard. for now as a replacement for a bit its fine
is it possible to change the color of the rgb ?
Mine keeps waving in all colors... I want to have it white.
I loaded the software... but there is no option for ir.
oh and a have to say: it put that thing in an MacBook Air M1 ^^
Thx
Good budget keyboard in my opinion for the price
Mechanical clicky boards are for people that love to annoy others with repetitive noises they think is ASMR. Membrane keyboards work just as good, are quiet and by the time you need to replace it you're already looking for new looks anyway. I have both stlyes and even membrane boards from 10 years ago still work flawlessly. Pick the one you like and enjoy rather than listen to internet trolls saying one is better for this reason or that, they all work!
What are you on about mechanical keyboards are for ppl who like to annoy others😂😂
Only mechanical keyboards that annoy other are blue tactile switches, usually they make everyone satisfied and happy
What cheap crap have you experienced? And mechanical keyboards are objectively better, not even mentioning the ghosting on membrane.
Mechanical keyboards are very customizable they don’t have to be loud they can be quiet
@@rlrihards948some membrane has anti ghosting and yes mechanical keyboards are better cause is faster
Membranes have a 3mm response time
I hate how loud my Corsair Cherry red keys are. So I buy this. Is there a Wireless alternative?
No
Yoo does the SteelSeries Apex 3 TKL work on ps4 slim??
how do i factory reset my keyboard idk how to change the color in the3 app
Do you think this will work with ps5?
i wish i watched this before i bought i thought i was getting myself a mechanical keyboard for a good price
I am one of the few people who switched to mechanical keyboards but realized that it was more of a trend chasing for me, I never really preferred them and I am just a casual hardcore gamer (I play casual content but thousands of hours:D) who doesnt care about how fast it is... and the membrane feel is just too good. I bought it, wondering if I will switch it with my corsair k95 platinum:D
I think it’s soley good for its logevity otherwise it should not be a big deal for most people
Hey anyone know how i can take a screenshot using this keyboard? thanks!
how do i connect the keyboard to the app
It's wierd, mine is heavy and doesn't move around when on a good surface
anyone know where i can get some new keycaps for this keyboard? preferably purple and not too expensive
Idk if you can put keycaps into a membrane keyboard
pity no wireless option
It definitely has a bump. If you've used red switches, you'll totally feel it. May be distracting, take some getting used to.
It's one of the few tkl keyboards that has a volume knob on it. I like that.
I wish you could easily switch colors on it, or easily switch the brightness. There's a function key to lower brightness, but you have to hold or keep pressing down and wait until the brightness cycles down. There's not just FN and a key to turn brightness on or off, or to change colors. To do the latter, you have to go in and set up color configs.
And the button under the volume knob doesn't do anything else but what you said, and can't be set to do anything in the software. Software doesn't even see the key. Like you said I hope they beef up their options in the future.
the key under the volume thing is to play/pause music. And if you hold the steel series software logo and f10, you can switch colours easily.
i had this 5 days and already the lights have stopped working. completely disappointing
Hello I just got the keyboard and some of my keys are not working such as R and enter please help
2 weeks late, but is it still broken?
yes.....
You said they're quiet, but the sound test shows it's loud af
What if u have a 60% keyboard
Do you know if it works on console, specifically ps4/5
If i remember rightly, alot of the SteelSeries keyboards are multi -platform compatible as long as the console supports it
probably since it's usb
i need an advice whats better apex3tkl or maxfit61 fantech
Can I use this on my Xbox one?
of course, you can use any usb keyboard.
Got mine today. Only paid £50.
What does the steelseries icon button do?
It's like the Fn button - you hold it down for extra functions like RGB brightness etc... It's all in the manual 👍
Can you use blue or brown switches
I don't think so since it's a membrane keyboard
They advertise this as whisper silent 😂. This is as loud as any red switch
is there no print screen button? how can you screenshot?
make it a macro, or use a similar but different option = win + shift + s
Im left handed and instead of WASD i play with OKLÖ (german keyboard). I can press 7 buttons at the same time with KeyboardStateView showing them. But if i try to press - (buttong next to right shift) together with K and L, it just doesnt work. Anyone else have this problem? Its really annoying because I need to use that combination of keys all the time when playing fps games.
I’m left handed too but I play with WASD
can somebody tell me when 60$ for membrane keyboard became a norm? facepalm... also one benefit of membrane would be slim and short keys.. but no they needed to fake mechanical look. double facepalm
is it possible to turn off the backlight without using the software?
Yes, you don't need to install software to turn off the backlights completely
thank you!

Is apex 3 good for gaming
Mechanical keyboards are better for gaming
Yes it's great 👍 I replaced the Apex 350 with this, the Apex 350 had a lower profile with slimmer keys & less travel, but I'm getting used to it - Mechanical keyboards aren't better for gaming, their just noisier, over-expensive late 90's throwbacks that wake everyone at night 🤣🤣
@@genx156 yall have to be kidding me so ur telling me that ur paying upwards of 90 dollars on a membrane keyboard
@@Seias. £45
@@genx156 still outrageous for a membrane
Is it mechanical
No
steelseries sucks im trying to make the lighting be a gif but even the presets that should work doesnt
I just bought it and am disappointed. For anyone used to cherry switches, this is a huge downgrade. The membrane switches are really not good for people who type a lot. I think it's the pressure point and travel. They require much firmer pressing than mechanical switches. They do have a clear-cut pressure point, but they are kind of slow, so much that you will accidentally miss key presses. This keyboard is only OK if you're not used to mechanical switches. Even a cheaper mechanical keyboard like the RedDragon I have feels better, let alone my Pok3r.
I dont understand the appeal to mechanical keys. Im a filthy casual PC gamer who mainly uses a controller for gaming so... how much faster can a mechanical key really be? What the fuck game are you playing that you need 0.001 seconds of a faster keystroke?
It's not just about gaming performance, mechanical keyboards just feel better to use in general. Anytime I use a different PC (and laptops are even worse) it just doesn't feel great to type on, it feels cheap.
