    Jim Henson *was* the Muppets.. he was the original creator.. and he died of pneunonia just before this was made.. Richard Hunt was a key muppeteer who died of Aids complications just after Jim. I *highly* reccomend Defunctland's 5 part special about The Muppets and Jim Henson on CZcams... I guarantee youll be crying by the end. Jim meant everything to my generation. Between Sesame Street, The Muppet Show and movies, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and all the other movies and shows he worked on... he practically raised my generation.

    Affan-The reason Scrooge gave coal to the rats is that he had always been so stingy that they didn't have coal for their fire and they were always cold. They specifically complained of the lack of coal and the freezing work conditions at the beginning of the movie.

    They ended up cutting "The Love Is Gone" song for a later release, because it was determined the song was TOO SAD for kids. I have the VHS with this song on it, but almost all versions in the 2000s' has this song cut. Good job getting this version. In the book, Belle gets married and has a gaggle of kids, and has a happy ending. This is also my favorite Christmas Carol adaptation, because Michael Cane came to the directors and said if he was doing the role, he would do it as if he were on the stage, and he is the BEST Scrooge. I re-watch this every year.
    Also as far as your shirt, please look the bands up, you probably know the songs.

    • @AffanReacts
      @AffanReacts Před 6 měsíci +3

      But that song is not just a song it is part of the plot, it explains why Scrooge is how he is on Christmas and his remarks on falling in love and marriage.

      @@AffanReactsKattzenberg notoriously thought with Brian about the inclusion of the song as he was under the impression that a love song would take away from the attention spans of the children. Which is indeed ironic because Brian was a big supporter of throwing it back in stating that they have VCRs they can fast forward and if they're too bored. Now the really hilarious thing is they ended up misplacing the master of that scene which is why it wasn't included beyond the DVD release of the film. And it remains lost until it was found within the last 3 years

    In the days before good central heating, houses were freezing and drafty. So beds had curtains in an attempt to retain some of the body heat. Also why people wore night shirts and caps to bed.

    This movie means so much to me on a personal level. It started as a tradition when I was a kid to watch this movie every year with my family, and now I watch it every year with my own kids. I adore everything about this movie. Michael Caine said he would only take the role if he could play the role totally straight, pretending like the Muppets are just normal citizens in the world and interacting with them accordingly. It's what makes the movie so great imo. I'm SO glad you saw the version with "When love is gone" because it was cut out of most versions, and it relates perfectly to the song at the end that everyone sings "When love is found"

  • @alharairah2214

    Glad you saw the version with Belle's song. When Scrooge is a little kid, you're supposed to notice that he doesn't go home for Christmas, unlike the kids passing by him - his bitterness is supposed to come off as demeaning something that he is unable to enjoy (sour grapes). In the book his father doesn't allow him to come home for many years. Scrooge only had familial affection for his sister - Fred's mother.
    An additional tidbit: when talking to the bunny Christmas morning, 5 shillings is close to a week's pay for a laborer (I base that on 20 shillings as a months pay in the Regency period, and the Christmas Carol is set in 1843-ish), so that would be a lot of money for a boy to earn.

    Affan, I think you need some context on when the original book was written. Charles Dickens lived in a time in which money lenders were essentially running a risk free enterprise. If you borrowed money and found yourself unable to pay it back, the government would pay it back for you, and then arrest you, throw you into what was called “Debtor’s prison” and force you to work on the treadmill until you paid off that debt, and whatever the cost of feeding and housing you in debtor’s prison was. Scrooge is not simply taking advantage of his fellow men, he is continuing a cycle of poverty in order to put more money in his pockets at the expense of the poorest citizens. Dickens himself was in a debtor’s prison as a child to help his father pay off such a debt.

    Merry (belated) Christmas! This is definitely the best Christmas Carol adaptation out there! I watch it every year on Christmas. In terms of Michael Caine being the only “serious” one with the acting… Caine actually only agreed to be in this movie if he was able to play it with an Oscar worthy serious performance. And I think that was why the movie is as good as it is. Oh, and Scrooge gave the bookkeepers coal because it’s to fuel the fire to keep them warm.
