PedalsAndEffects: Justin Meldal-Johnsen & Malekko Diabolik Fuzz

PedalsAndEffects covers the collaboration of Malekko and Justin Meldal-Johnsen with the release of the DIABOLIK fuzz pedal!!
Based on the B:ASSMASTER circuit, the DIABOLIK features a preset harmonic spectrum setting allowing crisp octave overtones and a very aggressive tone setting. Working with Justin, Malekko tuned the low frequency to allow more low end to pass through both the CLEAN and FUZZ channels.

I know that it’s been awhile since this video was posted but I put off buying this for quite some time. I have to say that this bass fuzz is super versatile! It plays really well with drives and modulation as well! I love using it for low gain synth sounds and gnarly fuzz distortion! Thanks JMJ and Juan Alderete! Much love! I got one and if I push the "fuzz" knob past about 9 o'clock it's suddenly almost twice as loud as my dry signal? Did I get a defective pedal or is this pedal just stupid?

J. Matthew Noonan you did not. All who use this pedal have voice how it is quite loud. Use a blend or in the mix experiment with the fuzz level and clean.

Hi, exellent demo/playing! How it response, work with active bass and hot pickups? Jazz bass for example? Does it fails as other similar sounding fuzzes (wooly mamooth, FOG etc... ) beacause of input impedance or not? THX in advance!

Does this pedal cut threw in a band if i'm using it with my bass? I saw on one of the Fuzz wars vidoes that they said the Wren & Cuff tall font Russian does very well cutting threw so I was thinking that but how about this pedal???

+SoseBass 11/2 It cuts through mixes very well. The pedal has a pronounced midrange characteristic, therefore, it's really hard to bury it in a mix.

+toefes It's a harmonic with the Squish knob set high. There's a ton of saturation at that point.
