  • President Emmanuel Macron has vowed that French police forces will remain for "as long as necessary" in New Caledonia, as he arrived in the riot-plagued French Pacific territory.
Mr Macron said the 3,000-strong force deployed from France would stay put - even during the Paris Summer Olympics if required.
Six people, including two police officers, have been killed and hundreds injured in the riots triggered by a controversial electoral reform proposed last week.

Some whites, some of whom have been there for 7 generations, in the French media about the racism of the Kanaks towards the white Kanaks and of course the Caldoches. If the new Caledonia becomes independent, the whites will be massacred and we cannot let this happen. If we accept a left-wing policy in mainland France, we must accept that the whites are also at home in New Caledonia and it is propaganda to believe that the French state would have diabolically sent whites to populate the island, this is completely false. The message has now got through and I think that many white people don't want to live on the island anymore, so it's up to the original Kanaks to have a lot of children, but they have to respect the demographics and the French institutions. In any case, no one talks about the original Kanaks who are loyalists and want to remain French.@@ivtch51

It's the Kanak extremists who want other ethnic groups to lack the same Democratic rights as they themselves enjoy. And regarding apartheid, in South Africa today it's laws that give privileges to the Black majority, that ethnic minorities not enjoy, like people of Malaysian, Indian and White ethnicity. For example if a Black person apply to a work, and someone of none Black ethnicity also apply for the same work, and have far superior qualifications, they still by South African law have to give the work to the guy who is Black, even if he not are even close to have the same qualifications as the other applicants. Just because his Black. Just one example of the apartheid in South Africa after anc did take power. And a other example would be that according to South African law, a work place have to have over 50 % Black employees. And by the way the huge majority of Black people in South Africa are Zulu. And they not the first people in South Africa, it was two different occasions of people coming in to South Africa before the Dutch ( and some French as well) did come there in the 1700-centuary. The first Black people come from Western Africa, and called themselves San, ( the White people did call them Bushman) and then later come the second group of Black people into South Africa, and they did come from Eastern Africa. This groups of Black people make up less than 10% of the Black people in South Africa today. Both the Boer ( Dutch and French people) and the Malaysians did come about 100 years before the Zulus to South Africa. So we were here first is by its very nature a racist motive, that historically may not even be true some times.

That being said, they did not sprout out of the ground nor fall from the sky. The French people living in New Caledonia are the result of colonialism. I hope that the issue is resolved peacefully. This is why I despise that you consider colonialism alive. Inheriting the legacy of colonialism is not the same thing as perpetuating it.
The only thing alive is the ethnic footprint. While I sympathise with the imposition of the separatists, I cannot waiver the rights of two thirds of the population because of their ancestry.
The Law on voting rights is a different topic altogether. Macron didn’t need their numbers to win the three referendums on independence. He accepts that majority wants to remain part of France and acted within his mandate to ensure that this temporary ban did not persists.
After 10 years it is kinda incredible that some citizens don’t get to vote. In Paris we would have a rebellion on our hands if that was done against one of the minorities.
You might reasonably argue that he should’ve taken into account the opinions of the colonised minority that France will always owe a debt of blood. But what else was he supposed to do?
Continue to deny many of his citizens the right to vote?
That cannot be the answer. You cannot take a fundamental right of the constitution and bargain it away.
If the suffering of colonialism can be measured in human lives and human hearts then the actions France has taken to prevent further suffering must account for something.

Bro what Haiti declared independence because France tried to reimpose slavery. If France didn't do that then Haiti was happy to remain. What were the Haitians supposed to do just accept being enslaved. Also France put at 21 billion dollar debt on Haiti after Independence

First they occupy the island, then they settle colonialists on it and then they hold democratic referendums. In French Guiana there are no locals anymore. They are disappeared..

France should leave the Pacific. They are anything but Pacific.

Oh……more colonial problems by the European countries.
UK still have many colonial questions…..like the Falklands.
The Kanaks will end up as minorities in New Caledonia ….
What will happen to them ?
Will they be oppressed forever ?
France should find a win win solution to ensure that Kanaks have a decent future.

France treats everyone equally and the vote didn’t go in favour of the Separatist. Same story with the Falklands.

      France allows foreigners to vote.
That’s why the Kanaks are a minority in their own country.
If you remove the foreigners votes……what would be the vote?

@@windsong3wong828 Those “foreigners” are citizens who should have every right to vote.
If the situation was reversed and a Kanak settled in Paris, there would be an uproar against such a racist ban.
We cannot take a fundamental right of the constitution and take it away from the majority of the Islanders because of their ancestry.
