    Good video with some good tips for a beginner. The clamp you mention to hold down your workpiece is supplied standard with most, if not all scrollsaws but most serious scroll saw users usually discard this pretty quickly as it gets in the way and blocks your view which becomes very annoying to say the least. I note you have the Hegner scroll saw and being an expensive saw it is my experience with that particular saw that the blade changing method used is disappointing and a newby would be very frustrated trying to line up a blade correctly as you demonstrated in this video.Anyone viewing this video and thinking of purchasing a new saw, my advice would be to make sure it has a quick release blade mechanism which will enable the user to change the blade very quickly.

      Hi John, great to hear from you. The Hegner scroll saws all have the option of a quick release clamp. It's a fantastic, quick and efficient quick release system and has done a great job for us over the past 20+ years.
      The clamp option is an additional extra that can be purchased for Hegner scroll saw. Whilst it is not my own choice to use it, my brother chooses to always use it as he finds it makes the process easier for him. It basically comes down to what works best for the individual. If used correctly it does not obscure your line of sight as its position can be adjusted. Usually it would be positioned slightly to the side of the blade. For beginners it can make a significant difference as it proves assistance with holding down, allowing them to focus on following the guidelines and cutting successfully.

    These videos are helpful as right now I have to use these in 7th grade middle school (which is kind of crazy to me) and I have trouble and sometimes get nervous because of the jump lol

    What would cause the blade to keep twisting even though the blade is tight and sharp? For example, I tried to cut into a piece of wood and I noticed the blade had trouble getting into it because it looks like it wants to twist.

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před měsícem

      Hi Regina, a few possible causes for that come to mind. Firstly, a blade that is not suitable for the job. I recommend a Niqua Speed or Niqua Pebecco number 9 reverse tooth blade for working in hard wood. In the USA it might be easier to get the reverse tooth number 9 blade by flying Dutchman. It's basically the same blade. The other possibility is the quality of the blade you are using. If tension is correct and the machine is set up correctly it is likely to be a blade that is of poor quality or just not suitable for the task in hand. The type and thickness of the wood are other possibilities. The speed you feed the wood through the scroll saw is another possibility. Bit of trial and error involved in getting that one right though.

      Hi Jerry, great to hear from you as always. Amazing how much information is available now. Dad spent many years working with the coping saw. He had a fret saw that was controlled by foot pedal instead of a motor. Needed strong legs for that one. Discovering Hegner was a game changer to be fair.

    I'm new to scroll sawing. Just wondering what you use to fix the paper to the wood so you can work on your design?

    i have a craftmans 16" scrollsaw, had not used it in a while and the bellows dried up and cracked, anotherr thing i noticed is that when using tabless blades the bottom screw is at the side the table tilts down making it harder to replace blades

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi Richard, Great to hear from you. You can often get replacement bellows, you certainly can for the Hegner scroll saws we use. It's the same with the clamps, you can often get replacements or upgrades like quick release clamps.

    I also have a Hegner 2s with the clamping attachment, it's great. Could you tell me the purpose of the modification on your clamping attachment?
    The one that looks like a sturdy bent paperclip?

      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ian, thank you for the positive feedback, delighted to hear that it was useful. As far as I can remember we didn't make any modifications to the clamping attachment, that was how it came when we bought it.
      I will check with dad to see if he made any adjustments but I think it was like that when we bought it.

      @@DailovespoonsThomas Thanks for the quick reply, really appreciate it.
      Maybe my clamp is just incomplete, I got it used. If your dad doesn't remember I think I'll have to go on a hunt on CZcams and some forums, because I currently can't fathom how this part of the clamp functions.

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ian, just had a chat with dad and he thought it might be something to do with the blade being square. Having said that we just checked and either ours has been bent or it is not square. 😂😂 It's a mystery to us. We will have to do some research into it.

    Hi, can you please tell me where you got the dust hose from? I have a clear plastic one with metal end and it's no good. Thanks

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před rokem

      Hi Geoff, great to hear from you. The hose is the one that came with the Hegner scroll saw. If I was buying a replacement, I would contact Hegner here in the UK. The purple hose is the later design (post 2003 if memory serves) and is better than the other machine we have with the clear plastic tube because it blows the dust away to the side as opposed to directly in your face.

      Hi Daniel, great to hear from you. We have two Hegner Multicut 2s scroll saws both over 15 years old and still doing a great job.
      I have attached a link to Hegner UK where I bought them from. I have no association with Hegner other than using their fantastic scroll saws.

      Hi I, great to hear from you. Not sure what you are referring to? If you are asking about the price of the Hegner multicut 2s they cost between £700-900 new but you can get hold of them second hand for as little as £200-300.
