  • Canon has been the #1 camera brand since the beginning of time. They were neck and neck with Nikon for awhile, but pulled away. Now Sony is on their heals. This is why people still choose Canon, despite them not always having the best specs.

      McDonalds sells the most hamburgers, doesn't mean they have the best burgers. Having been a former Canon, Fujifilm and Olympus user, I can say that Canon may be the #1 seller, but definitely isn't the best. Not by a long shot.
      I don't think Canon is even the best for a specific type of photographer. Sony is the best for indoor, studio and controlled climate photographers. Nikon is the best for outdoor photographers who often shoot in bad weather conditions, those who shoot with long telephoto primes and those who want to save some money (versus Sony or Canon). Fujifilm is the best for APS-C lovers. Leica is the best for rich dentists. Canon is the best at nothing.

    Your difficulty grading C-Log is actually a good reason to try one of the new models that have C-Log 3. Once you have 3, you'll always feel free.
    I almost switched to Sony when I contemplated going mirrorless. At the time I had a 5D Mark IV. When I compared the R to the A7 III, the R had lesser specs for $400 USD more (it's way cheaper now, of course). But it felt nice in my hand. The Sony felt like a dinky, boxy toy. They're fixated on keeping the camera small. Canon has always understood ergonomics and usability. So I waited for Canon to put out a better mirrorless body. When they did, I pounced without regret.
    I have both an R5 and R6 now. I don't need the R6 II because of the R5. Now, if the R5 Mark II rumor comes true, I might consider trading in the R6.
    Another thing about the Sonys: the media. The CF Express A cards are slower, limited in capacity, and much more expensive than the Type B. The Sony body and lenses may be less expensive, but buy a couple of CFE-A cards and that difference is gone.

    • @jessecumberledge4530
      @jessecumberledge4530 Před rokem +2

      Fair. Sony's do feel like cheap plastic toys. I have large hands and they feel horrible. I understand what Sony was trying to do with the CF Express type As, but give us some better priced cards please!!
      I still think as a straight "youtubers" camera the A7s3 or Fx3 are the easiest to get a great image out of. And they have the most complete mirrorless lenses selections. If only Panasonic would give me phase detect or lidar, I would be complete. Last night I rolled the dice and left my S5 on CAF with a 50mm at 1.8. Looks like it worked great. But I was sweating bullets and I don't need that anymore.

As soon as I bought into RF glass I was so disappointed that I sold the Canon system. RF glass produces imho a shift in colour towards orange. The look was also way more digital as with EF glass. I could even see the shift with some CZcamsrs like Potatoe Jet or Matti when they started to use RF glass. I’m a hobbyist landscape, street-life and wildlife photographer and committed DSLR user. I’ve seen Nikon cameras as well. They are good. Sony is the worst in all possible ways.
    To me Canon in the best due to its realistic colors, easy operability, great lens options and processing software support. Last but not least important; the pro bodies are extremely durable and reliable. I procured used 5D, 5DII, 5DIII, 1DIV and 7D with tons of shutter life remaining. I expect all of them last many years more. Use native lenses, have nine of those.
    So, why should I think about gears of other brands? My time is far better spent developing new ideas, compositions etc. for my future images. I’m purely a still photographer.

    I think the main issue why some people are having a hard time getting an accurate color from sony is that sony tend to hide the profile/color space that gives the most accurate color. The standard picture profile sony provides is good but not accurate enough and for some people who are new to sony, it might be their default settings. The most accurate picture profile/color space for sony comes from (picture profile off with neutral creative look) or from (Slog3 with Sgamut3.cine). I agree it should be more accessible straight out of the box and not be hidden like a secret setting but I think it might beat canon's color accuracy if you set it on those specifc sony color space/picture profile.

      @@astanisystems as I remember it (but it was a long time ago) Nikons back in those days had rotary dials to select things, whereas the Canons had buttons and you had to look at the LCD screen on top to see what they were doing. At the time I think I had a Praktica so Nikon felt a bit more familiar.

    • @astanisystems
      @astanisystems Před rokem

      @@PJ-om2wq Yeah, but Nikon is still superior in terms of design and ergonomics compared to other brands. Nikon cameras have a distinctive look, unlike Canon with a blank black theme. Not that anything's wrong with them, it's just that Canon cameras look simple and dull compared to Nikon's.
      Also, older generation always praises Nikon, so whenever I was doing a shoot that included elderly people, they would always praise my for using Nikon and were generally saying good things about my system choice. This goes to say that Nikon is the OG in camera world, where Canon is mid, and Sony is the new kid on the block. Canon has been around forever. They have had a leg up on the field forever. Like Nokia's demise, I forsee Canon being usurped by Sony in the next 15 years. Canon, like Nokia, is way too cocky. I have a Sony a 7s 3. But my first choice, at the time was, the R5. Canon blew it. The overheating, the codecs, the file sizes - it was a mess. A lot of my friends got Sony cameras at that time too. Now, we see how good the auto focus is, the broad lens selection, the articulating screen and other amenities. Color science is not even an issue for the most part. There is a lut for everything. Besides that, for me at least, I don't even use s log. I tweak film color straight out of the camera in the basic profile. So "for me" the fact that there is so much already built into Sony camera's right out of the box - and they work. No recalls or waiting on firmware updates to be able to use my $4,500 dream camera that over heats and loses me gigs. (The cripple hammer is reaaaaaal). Canon is still riding high "now" but new consumers are having Sony as their first camera now and Sony will become their chosen ecosystem going forward. Canon have always had remarkable entry level models. Most cameras are still entry level with kit lenses, and lenses per body is lower than 1.8. This is the only reason Sony is not a monopoly. Canon started slr video early, when sony and panasonic were still focusing on camcorders. Nikon could have been a contender, but they released multiple upgrades that offered nearly no improvements in the most important market segment, the 3000 and 5000 series. Nikon users switched because or inferior features compared to the competition. Fujifilm users will switch because or high cost compared to the competition. Panasonic will survive, but they are a niche really, in the general market it does not have a chance against full frame. Fujifilm, Nikon and Panasonic still have no serious proposition for a digital cinema camera, another niche that is not very important. Sony and Canon have a very complete professional video line.

    • @alexandervapnyar1030
      @alexandervapnyar1030 Před rokem

      "Remarkable" in what sense? Canon's entry level bodies were indeed OK or even sometimes pretty good, but their "consumer" lenses sucked big time. And they still do. And then there's a gap the size of the Grand Canyon between the "entry level" and the shiny happy world of the "real Canon" - all those R5s, R3s, 70-200/2.8 and 50 1.2.

    • @aristotle_4532
      @aristotle_4532 Před rokem +2

      @@alexandervapnyar1030 They are amazing value and very good quality. Consumers that drive the market do not need more. The kit lenses are OK for 1080p video and 1080p still delivery in phones, which is the typical delivery today, and most people do not buy extras lenses, just one or two kit zooms. Professionals that use a single camera probably go to Canon C70 and higher or Sony FX. The cost difference from cheaper models is not important compared to the cost of lenses. Those who need 4 or 5 cameras go for mid range models. In 2021 Canon M50 I and II, Sony A6400, Fujifilm X-A5 etc is what people actually bought in large numbers in Japan and other countries.

    In terms of sales, Canon dominates the competition. Canon used to dominate the fast glass market, but new competitors have emerged. For as long as there have been DSLR cameras, Canon has been able to charge exorbitant prices for their goods because they are the only company in the world that possesses super-fast glass with focusing capabilities. Due to their monopoly on fast glass, Canon was able to charge exorbitant prices for almost all of their products in the past. When Nikon finally launches their fast 85mm 1.2 and 35mm 1.2 lenses, it will certainly end Canon's dominion as the king of fast lenses, but sadly, many Canon consumers are unaware that Sony and Nikon offer better lenses with greater build quality.
