I performed "Amazing Grace" at Kowloon City Plaza a few months ago. It’s a Christian hymn published in 1779 and composed in 1772 by the English pastor and poet John Newton. The New Testament greatly influenced the lyrics of "Amazing Grace."
The lyrics are based on John's experience of receiving God's grace: in 1748 he encountered a particularly violent storm on the ship, and John prayed desperately that he and his ship would not sink. Some of the crew members were swept overboard as the ship pitched back and forth, but he survived. He marked this event as a sign of his faith in Christ.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
