Hey Ho, Nobody Home ~Musical Round~

- This is one of my favorite musical rounds, and one that I can remember singing as a kid.
The words of the song are:
Hey Ho, Nobody home.
Meat nor drink nor money have I none,
Yet will I be merry, very merry.
Since the words of the song are sort of cryptic and open to debate as to their true meaning, I interpreted the song as about a vagabond who stumbles upon a deserted house only to find it not deserted at all. But I bet you can think of other possible interpretations to these lyrics...
This is also a great song for music students to sing with a xylophone ostinato- so try that out too!

It's so addicting
ok?
I'm in 6th grade and my music has had us sing the song since 4th grade
Me too, l’ll never forget my 4th grade teacher “Mrs. Tiner “ playing the piano and all of kids singing this great song that is imprinted on my brain forever.🙂
I' m 67 and today this song popped into to my head. I remember singing it when I was a little child.
Hah! One year after your post. You're now 68. I'm 66. It just popped into MY head!
When I was seven years old, I learnt this in class. I would sing this all the day lol, it made me nostalgic tbh
Now I'm 16 years old 🤷🏻♀️ I come from France btw 🙌
Hey
And now you're 20 years old.
@@Tony-1971 and now 21
I am 70 years old and sing this at times but today while sitting on my porch I started singing it..brings back good memories of long ago~
I had to sing this for elementary
Isabella me to
what school you go to
Me to
NyAsia Brown thats not a question you ask. its private information
Folgers Coffee doesnt matter. if you actually did go to the same school, you could’ve texted him privately. if he gives out his school name, you may know it, but other people might actually use it for bad. take things into consideration before commenting and asking questions, kid.
This was AMAZING to sing with the kids when I substitute taught for a music teacher today. The kids LOVED it.
Learned a piratey version of this during camps
„Yo ho, anybody home. Meat nor drink nor money have I none. Still I will be happy. Yo ho, anybody home“
We‘d also sing it in rounds with other groups overlapping to mimic the sounds of the beach or the seagulls. One round would sing „Soo gully-gully-gully, soo gully-gully“ on repeat and the other would sing „Row wash-wash, row wash-wash,“. These two rounds and the ‚yo ho‘ would be sung at the same time, super atmospheric as a campfire song
The song is so addicting
We did this in choir and my god was it awesome
This song just gave off a good vibe and it felt good to sing it as well. We would sing this as a warm up for both practice and for rehearsals
We sang,
“Hey ho, nobody home,
No meat, nor drink, nor money have i none,
Still
I will
Be very very merry
Heyy hoo noboody hoome”
oof we're different lol
Me as well
"The streets are very dirty my shoes are very thin, I have a little pocket to put a penny in..if I haven't got a penny a hapenny will do, if I haven't got a hapenny then God bless you...soul and a soul and a soul cake, please good misses a soul cake, and apple a pear a plum and a cherry, any good thing to make us all merry, one for Peter two for Paul, three for Him who made us all."...1970 thank you Ms.Ann Mckinney
The high pitched voice is so freaking adorable
Yes
I think the low one is adorable
I'm 56 and sang this in Indian Guides when I was 7. The only difference is we sang, "hey, ho, 'ANYBODY' home." My dad used to take me.. Thanks for the memories pops. Sure miss ya.

Crazy? I was crazy once.
They locked me in a room, a rubber room.
A rubber room with rats, and rats make me
I heard the song being sung to a child what time and all of a sudden popped out into my mind and if you listen to it is so so it humbles you but you can see that you can still survive on the face of the Lord
at my school

I played this in my class, its a amazing song in my opinion.
love this song
i remember we had to sing this in choir class once and me and all the other boys went all out with dwarven accents. It was a spot on girls be like vs guys be like moment and i’ll never forget it.
We are doing a play at our school(I'm backstage), and the actors sing it every practice to warm up-
It is honestly the best part of the whole thing, and it's not even going to be performed haha
I think i knew this song since grade 1st at elementary school, and now i just graduated from high school
I had this song in my head. Can’t remember where I heard it. I searched it and found this. I remember another line not included in this rendition. “Yet well I be host of very merry men”.
Its been used in quite a few movies over the years. I saw two movies that featured it. One is a really great old black and white horror movie made in 1958 called 'I Bury The Living.'
This song is great... you might even say *hauntingly* great
I'm going on 50 years old and still remember this song from music class when I was in 1st grade at Pleasant Hill elementary school in Ohio.
Wow when i was child i was like grade 4 i learned by keep me singing and my classmate
I played this on the keyboard in band class and a percussionist made up a very pog beat on the drumset.
This song randomly pops up in my head and I just have to look it up and sing it to soothe my anger

I had to sing this song for my training at my singing lessons
Isn't it funny how funny the mind is, sitting here at my desk playing solitaire and all the sudden the words to this song running through my head
I had to sing this hey ho hi hello welcome away to the wind we go time to learn and time to sing together hey hi hello
I had to play on my guitar this in elementary
This is too much for me now because I love it 😀 😍 💕 ❤ 😭
In online choir for funday we did this today u
I just had find it
I play this for band and I love it
I always thought this was , "Hey, ho, anybody home". The tune was different than this. too. We sang it in elementary school. One guy liked it so much that he kept saying, "Hey, ho anybody home".
The musical notes remind me of the Xylophone that had the notes printed on it that looked like a toy. We would play that sometimes in music class. It kind of depresses me when I think of my elementary school days ( the 1980s) because they were so innocent, but no more. I feel bad for the kids in this day and time.
I just learned this song today and my friends thinks this is scary
I have to sing this song in school and it’s so funny 😂
What is funny
It says ho which it also sounds like hoe
I remember this in 90s school. I was told to be happy even if you don't have anything. That's what the teacher told us.
I love it
that last part hits different😔😳
This song is the best song ever heard
Perfect
Had to track this song down. Ive heard it being sung in two separate movies now. Cant remember the name of the first movie but the second one i saw that feature it was a movie called 'I Bury The Living.' Its a brilliant old horror movie made in 1958. If you like The Twilight Zone you'll enjoy this film.
We learn learn this at my school its say
Hey! Ho! Nobody home, Meat nor, drink nor, money have I none,
Yes I will be merry.
So today I'm in 5th grade so I did guitar lessons and did this one I still love it
If your in 5th grade, your sus...

I love this song and always have-I love singing it in private as my half of a round. However this version, while lovely, is waaaay too slow!! ,btw I’m 83 and mos def sang it in school. (I’m a second alto and always could do the deep voice, btw.)
Great!
I sang a very different version of this in elementary school:
Hey ho, nobody home
Friends nor happiness I walk alone
Still I will be very merry
Hey ho, nobody home
My choir teacher is making us sing this song for the fall festival that’s coming up in a few weeks🥱😑

Nobody Home
No meat no drink nor money have I none
Still I will be maaaaaarrrried (we held the a and did different notes with it.)

Мы эту песню в муз.школе пели.
Нам её включали на сольфеджио.👍
If you play this song at 1.5 playback speed, this is what I remember hearing it at.
Also remember hearing the lines, "Still I will be merry, very merry"
That was also 25 years ago. lol oh well, this track still slaps.
Im currently singing this in my 7th grade class in chorus. :)
