May 2024 has been a record breaking year in West Cork for the second largest fish in the sea, and the largest shark found in the Northern Hemisphere: the Basking Shark.

On the 19th of May I counted upwards of 60 sharks from a vantage point at Myross Island, near Union Hall in West Cork, with a good 20+ sharks just in the narrow sound between the mainland and High Island, and hundreds more being reported up and down the coast.
I had the drone with me, and despite great difficulty finding and keeping sharks in the frame due to bright sunshine and the resulting screen glare, I managed to salvage enough clips from the resulting footage to put together a short video of this iconic marine visitor to Irish shores.
