Elephant Hill Repair And Downtown Takeover In Farmington

- čas přidán 15. 09. 2023
- We got a call for a tour vehicle broken at the bottom of Elephant Hill and blocking the trail. So Shawn and I loaded up early and hurried in to get it fixed and out of there. We grabbed some bolts we knew we needed before we left. Once we got to the vehicle we realized that two bolts were sheared off but two could be rethreaded in and have it fixed quickly. So we got it all lined up and got the 2 bolts in. Normally we would have extracted the other bolts and repaired it completely, but it only needed to make it to the parking lot to go on our trailer and get hauled back to their shop. Then they would need to pull it all back apart to replace seals and bearings. So we opted for the quick fix to get it moving fast. It all went smooth. Then we headed down to Farmington New Mexico for the W.E.ROCK event. On Friday night they do the Downtown Takeover which is an offroad carshow and vendor event before the main competition on Saturday and Sunday. Of course we happened to notice a broken shock mount so we had to do a repair right in the middle of a carshow. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

I clicked, but I can't see what you can and technically I touched not clicked because I haven't used a mouse in almost a decade😂
It's my way of determining, that I've watched this one at least once befor.

Don't underrate yourselves! You aren't a sideshow, you ARE the show! That's why we are here watching you!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I love how much you care about the park and nature. Nobody (outside the CZcams comments section) would have an issue with you turning around there to do the recovery, or squeezing past on others but you go out of your way to stay on the track and set the best possible example for everyone in the process. Top tier human being right there.
That`s Rory . He is under rated. We need a President like him.

@@REDMAN298 Rory for President? Now there's a thought. I wouldn't wish it on him, but he'd do a decent job of it. I have concerns about how the Secret Service would keep up with him in their Chevy Suburbans on those Moab trails?

Well said.
Yep- extremely safe- Everytime I saw the hi lift jack come out, we would go ahead & call the emergency room to expect us. But- they're a must have in the off road world lol. Thanks for the video, & thanks for taking us along!😊
Thanks for a great rescue video. Dang! the kind of terrain and elevations you guys have to drive are beautiful and scary at the same time. It is kind-of like "that is a beautiful rock formation, oh I could die here if not careful". Carry On Sirs.
Agreed. I watch some of these and think "Dang, that is beautiful, I'd love to be along for that ride." Then there's others like that narrow trail and reverse-up switchback and I'm thinking "Well, I don't know... How about I get out and film you while you drive up?" ;-)
I love how you remind people it’s a park & to stay on the established roads
Gotta love the flex at an off-road show doing a trail fix in mid show.
Excellent repair and office space. Needles District is a beautiful area. Elephant Hill, Confluence Overlook, and Beef Basin are a must see.
Shawn is one heck of an asset.
All the best going hell and back guy's
No pressure 😅
Get-R-Done, they shall. 🇺🇸
Doing that repair was THE MOST natural thing y'all could of done at a show representing the Brand.

Elephant Hill! Wow! A blast from my past. When I was a kid my dad was building some bridges down there so we spent a lot of time there and it became my dads playground. I was so afraid to look where we were going on Elephant Hill that I laid on the floor of our ‘72 blazer. (I spent a lot of time there) Now I look at it as a beautiful adventure! Thank for bringing us along for the ride in your beautiful playground! 😊
Beat some of the fans were happy to see you actually doing a "trail repair" at the show.
Big blocks will provide amazing TORQUE, if there is any movement by the crankshaft at all. They are amazing. Your ability to get them to provide work at low RPM is outstanding.
There is a thing that used to be popular called regular maintenance, but it seems to be forgotten in our "disposable" world.
Watching Trail Mater is the best way to start my morning ☕️
That trail repair on the road was shocking.
...
Yeah sorry, I couldn't resist this pun... 😁😜
mine almost backed on on me on my LC. Luckily I saw a trail Mator video telling me to check my Toyota axles, and when I did, I could spin them with my fingers and they were a few threads from falling out.
Thanks guys!
Definitely check knuckle studs. I have a ‘94 just like this one, I rebuilt the knuckles and one of the studs sheared off as I was putting it back together. Stress, and fatigue after 325,000 miles. Got all new studs just in case.
Keep up the good work Rory and crew.
Yup, after changing out the unit bearings 3or4 times I replace the bolts as well
I'm going out to check the trOnions on both of my rigs now
With both your rigs entered in the flexing contest, everyone else was fighting for third place!
“We shall solve all the problems by hitting it harder”. 😂😂😂 You gents are my kind of people! Y’all rock!
Rory sets the best example of tread lightly. Awesome job again.
The hanging out the door camera shots are seriously my favorite--
More spectacular scenery and a rugged trail that only the most capable vehicles and drivers can easily handle without breaking something. Oh the joys of a Trailmater video!
What you can do with your rigs never ceases to amaze me. Awesome scenery as well. Keep up the great content.
Side show repair, thumbs up. Farmington watch out the A-Team is in the house.
First off, thank you for not having music in your videos, as I'd much rather hear the sounds. . Having been an import car and light truck mechanic for 30+ years, watching the field repairs is interesting indeed.
Shaun cracks me up , once he starts laughing.
He’s like a naughty child haha .m
EH... one of the coolest trails in Moab. Not the hardest, but definitely one of the coolest! So scenic!!!
Nice way to start a Saturday. Turn on CZcams in the am and find a Trailmater video.👍
Hey guys THANKS for following the park rules regarding trail driving …they are your parks and mine!👍👍
You should get bonus points for working on your show car while entered in a show. I shows functionality.
It was nice to meet y'all fellas in person,
What elegant color coordination, the Hammer and the Buggy are a perfect match....!
Extra points for trailside repair demonstration during the show!
I lost half a right index finger in a Handyman incident; I was wincing watching Rory under that booger... but the trail fix in downtown Farmington is classic Irish....cool!
I would love to see Bobby Layton do a complete body and paint job on Trail Mater. Give it some lovin’ that it deserves, working that hard for soo long. It would also extend the life of it to be totally checked out and refreshed. You got to shake things up now and then. 😊
That trail is freaking beautiful, ridiculous
The fans not only see trail Mater and the buggy but the get to watch you fabricating and fixing.
6:31 that’s also why they started making the wonderful 6 shooter knuckles with 6 bolts instead of 4. Those axles are great if you fix the 3 weak points, I am building one right now.
Great information about not turning around just anywhere i have never been out there but wouldn't have thought about that would have just turned around thanks
Hello trail mater💚❣️ You are my choice for prettiest Ugliest in show💥🏆
Jeeeeesus Rory...under that hi lift jack wriggling around..was glad to see ya outta there n safe.
I have a new found appreciation for TM, Rory & his crew. We were in Moab Sept 14, on our way to Needles, E Hill & Devils Kitchen. We stopped in S Moab at the Shell station, filled up with gas, & noticed TM was parked just to the W of us & Mike had just finished pumping gas, (I chatted for 15 seconds) & Rory walked back to the vehicle just as we pulled out. Hours later we were atop E Hill, ready to descend (about a 1.5 hour trip from the parking area to Devils Kitchen). Before we descended I walked some 50 yards, peered and spotted a truck, spinning at the last crux move unable to get up, and then a minute later noted a vehicle half way up the hill (Tacoma) and at the bottom of the hill a (Chevy Crew Cab). The three were from Virginia in stock vehicles and stock AT tires. Two said they had wheeled in Virginia for 14 years. When I walked down to the crux move, the Chevy driver in the group walked over to me and said - 'We know what we are doing, Don't try and tell us what to do" (I heard that 5 times) and when X (Chevy driver) left I asked the driver in the lead if he wanted a pull or winch - he said yes. We drove down and nose first, pulled him up (5 seconds) with his straps and soft/hard shackles. He then went to the top & walked back down. The no. 2 driver in the Tacoma finally made it to the crux and after listening, I told him to 'gun it' before his rear tires started spinning. He shot like a rocket and flew up & landed with a big bounce on the top deck. He told us the night before they had spent 4.5 hours getting 3 vehicles through SOB hill/corner, slept in the road when it got dark, and then spent 3.5 hours getting to the base of EH. It took three of them 2 hours to get up EH & we waited the full time. (No. 3 finally made it, with aid.) When we finally went down, two NavTec vehicles & drivers were waiting to go up. I told them my name was impatient. That day I thought TM was going to have to pull out three trucks that were scraping under body badly. Had they different and competent vehicles they likely would have made it with no problems. Years ago EH was rated a 6 & last spring in EJ Safari outline, it was listed as a 4 (in difficulty). I've seen TM, Rory & his crew in many situations, when I saw this piece on EH though & the NavTech repair, I wanted to tell the story - TM repairing vehicles & dealing with the social side of the public at times, the later which is never really shown on this site. Regardless, I'm certain they are profoundly appreciated; I've spoken to NavTech drivers who sing their praises.
Hammer 🔨 time the ultimate fix it tool 🔧
I kinda love seeing the Navtec Land Cruisers broken down like that. When I took my stock 1997 F-250 extended cab long bed 7.3L PowerStroke into the Maze District of Canyonlands, one of the Navtec guides laughed at me as we passed each other near the Doll House. But my Ford made it out under its own power!
There are times when finding that perfect flat rock, to flatten a piece your working on is just great.
Very hairy scary road, but those rock formations are incredible! What views!
For someone who lives in Ohio boy you guys live and work in a beautiful part of the country! ❤
new Motor seems to be just what the Doctor ordered, Mater appears to be running Smooth & Cool like its Driver
Those 80 series Land Crusers are fantastic on the trails with good coil suspension flex and a really nice ride. They weren't designed for rock crawling, but they're tough enough that they do a decent job in the rocks. They really excel in the desert and cross country in remote areas with terrible overlanding trail conditions. They regularly go over 300k miles before needing an engine rebuild. They're super tough rigs, but everything eventually has a wear or breaking point.
Class act and proponent of the system…🤘❤️🤘…turn around in the right spot and take care of our lads. Well done sir
It was awesome to meet you guys in person. Super down to earth good people👍
Best recovery channel on CZcams, keeping it real means a lot.
Rory always teaching us something during his videos.. Thats a great idea/way to get up those switchbacks.. Never woulda thought to back up a section so then you dont have to try and make a super tight turn at the switchback..
Thank you. Very good fix on the trail . Fantastic countryside. Very good entertainment and video
Winner of best in show fix guys ,Respect from Lonewolf Canada 🇨🇦 A'HO
The show within the show! Maters never disappont!
I have great admiration for the work you guys do out on the trail. And the fun you have doing it. Keep 'em coming and stay safe.
Flex'n and showing off REAL fun after work. More work ! ha!👍🤘💪✌💛👌😁🏁
Rory, Mike and Sean, thank you guys for the awesome content week after week! Love your videos and how you guys have so much fun together. You guys make a awesome team, keep up the great work!
Ya aren't they all a cracked up bunch of guy's that know there business 😮. HaveA great day. 🇺🇸
The last video you said the buggy was ready to go and you get there and do a parking lot repair. Ha.
Classic gettin it done! Good stuff guys. Thank you. We love it.
WoW!! The wide angle lens amplifies the sketchy factor.. Thanks for the video..
Rory you and guys make my 😂😂😂😂😂 and I love it.
Started to really enjoy the gag reel at the end of the episodes
Well I'm glad you found that shock before you had to. Nice recovery there too. Thanks for the video. I hope you do well at werock.
14:12 stopping the grinder on Trailmater.. love it😂
So Rory, where is the strangest place you ever had to do a repair?
Rory: At a car show.
I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos! Rory, Shawn and Mike are all three very personable and knowledgeable men. I have learned much from just watching your videos. You're a great team! Keep up the great work. You are appreciated!
Poor guys can't go anywhere without doing a trail repair.... 😂
The middle of a show, still welding and grinding on a rig 😂 these guys are great, and I bet that drew more attention than the best looking rig there
most realistic cars and coffee. always something to tighten or replace!
It's almost like Shaun has done that before. You guys make it look too easy. Good stuff.
Thanks from England + always nice to have bolts that are going into a blind hole to have the heads drilled (pre-drilled AN) for lock wiring, and to lock wire them.
glue stick, onion joint, and fire extinguisher - Rory and crew are rewriting the english language, and i'm here for it
We learned about checking bolts from Shawn yesterday, and also, he taught us allways to fill up with gas before you go wheeling. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks, Shawn, 👍 RoutineMaintenance is wonderful and cuts out cock-ups! 😂😂
Love me some Elephant Hill
Always enjoy the vids..scenery..and the joking... i know the guy who will drive this out, well trained on the trails, knows his way around..and wont hit any rocks... was waiting for sean to reply.. where would i find a rock in moab.. lol. Always make it look so easy and effortless..
You probably would have done better on the RTI ramp with the broken mount. I once won an RTI contest because I had a broken upper control arm mount. Didn't know about it til later.
Red loctite and overtightening has been the cure for those steering bolts at the shop i work at. 👊🏼
Good stuff here Rory. I learn something in every single video.
“Let’s get out and look at it so we can judge it more harshly.” should be on a shirt.
I like it. A trail repair at a show.
Rory, Shawn and Mike. You all are AWESOME!!!! Don't change a thing. Your all real and truthful. Love it. Sorry Shawn if I spelled your name wrong. Keep up the great videos and great trail recovering.
I love watching you guys, it’s a absolute blast watching good friends have fun doing something together they enjoy!
HEY! Good morning Rory , Mike and Shawn! Hell yeah!!
rory welding at the car show 😂awsome 👨🏭👌
I did this trail a few years back in my jeep Cherokee got all the way to the bottom and my crank sensor went out. Thank God I had an extra one. 😅 i’d have to say when I camped at the bottom it was one of the quietest places I ever been in my life.
We missed you guys in Farmington. We had several boxes of peaches for ya fellas along with jams and salsas
“We shall solve all the problems. By hitting it harder”. 😂
You’re the goat rory you make things look so easy
I like that at the end of the video you leave time to hit the like button. Some channels end quick, and just go to a still screen of other videos that you can click on. Keep up the good work.
Good job and a great show, Rory.
Greeting from Frankfurt
You’re videos are amazing bud. I’m right with you on this recovery. Please don’t change a thing. I don’t get to go out and wheel and go out there. This is great stuff.
Ready for the 24 hr challenge
Are you bringing a buggy or trail rig?
The Trail Mater team to the rescue. Rory and Shawn getting it repaired and Shawn driving it out!
Those drag links and such are really hard on those meat hammers
"We shall solve all problems by hitting it harder should be a t shirt saying!"
Lol haha 😆 I sure love your humor sure love your office views boy's. 👍
Looks like TM is getting along nicely with the new motor. Well done. 👍🏻💪🏻
awesome scenery!
The scenery is so _________?(ausum)(beautiful)☮
Another fine trail repair 😊
